How to make it

  • Combine first 8 ingredients in a large mixing bowl then add oil and eggs beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.
  • Add buttermilk and vanilla and beat well.
  • Stir in prunes and pecans then pour batter into a greased and floured tube pan and bake at 350 for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • Cool in pan 10 minutes then remove from pan and place on serving plate.
  • Pour glaze over while both are still warm.
  • Mix all glaze ingredients and allow to cool for 5 minutes before pouring over cake.

This glaze sounds wonderful. Do you stew the prunes or leave them dried? My mom made a bourbon prune cake but always stewed the prunes first to soften them up and then added them to the batter. And she made those crazy prune dessert things with marshmallows, only the adults were allowed to have.
