Ingredients

How to make it

  • Place your little oaties and the water in a small saucepan and bring to the boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring them up every few minutes so they don't stick.
  • (they might look a bit goopy to start with and you'll be all like "oh no, its not gonna work i put too much water or something!" ... thats what i was like, but it thickens out, don't worry).
  • Pour into you favorite cereal bowl and top with a dash or milk (or cream if you're feeling naughty). Sweeten with raw sugar or honey or syrup if you want OR add some fresh fruit!
  • You could also add in raisins or other dried fruit and/or spices like cinnamon while its cooking. Maybe some grated orange rind and some cardamom! Try replacing 1/4 of the water with your favorite juice! The possibilities are endless!!
  • This quantity will serve one, but you can see how easy it is to make more; just get a bigger pot and double quantities for 2 people, quadruple for 4, etc. Cook time will also be increased though (about 30 minutes for 4 serves)
  • GO TRY IT NOW!!!!

Hi zoe~ (shortening your name a bit) I have been eating steel cut oats for a couple of years now and after its done cooking, I stir in some flax seed meal, brown sugar & cinnamon. I top it with a few dallops of organic yogurt and add a few blueberries & sliced strawberries....its almost like having desert for breakfast! Yes, once you've had steel cut oats, its hard to go back to regular oatmeal~
