- 1 1/2 kg lamb leg chopped a little coarser then ground meat. shopping list
- 1 c olive oil or melted butter. shopping list
- 2 medium onions chopped. shopping list
- 4 cloves garlic chopped. shopping list
- 2 hard boiled eggs sliced. shopping list
- 2 eggs lightly beaten. shopping list
- 1/2 c parsley chopped. shopping list
- 1 tbs celery leaves chopped. shopping list
- 1 ts mint chopped. shopping list
- 1/2 c meat broth, or white whine. shopping list
- 2 tbs tomato paste, or 2 ripe tomatoes shredded. shopping list
- 5 cm cinnamom. shopping list
- 1/2 ts ground allspice. shopping list
- 1/2 c kefalotiri or any hard cheese will do shredded. shopping list
- 1/2 c fetta cheese crumbled. shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste. shopping list
- 12 sheets of frozen pie crust defrosted. shopping list
How to make it
- In a frying pan heat 3 tbs olive oil or butter and saute on medium heat onion and garlic 5 min till soft.
- Add lamb and cook 10 min till lightly browned, add cinnamon, allspice, tomato paste and broth or whine cook 15 min, add herbs and mix well cook on low another 5 min.
- Taste with a little salt and pepper, take of the heat and add cheese, mix well, add beaten eggs and mix.
- Brush a baking dish with oil or butter and put in 6 sheets of pie crust brushing each sheet with oil or butter.
- Fill with meat mixture, top with sliced eggs and fold in overhanging sheets, top with the other 6 sheets, brushing again each sheet with oil or butter.
- Cut top sheets with a sharp knife in serving pieces and bake for 60 min in the oven at 180 C till golden brown, cool for 30 min and cut pieces through.
- Now you can serve.
- I personally add 1/2 a c sliced mushrooms and 1/2 a cup cubed cooked ham and 1/4 c carolina rice.
- Serve warm or cold.
