Homemade Tootsie Rolls

- 1 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup shopping list
- 2 tablespoons shortening shopping list
- 4 teaspoons cocoa shopping list
- 2 tablespoons evaporated skim milk shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla shopping list
How to make it
- Combine sugar, corn syrup, shortening and cocoa in medium saucepan over medium/high heat.
- Bring mixture to boil then reduce heat and simmer candy until temperature reaches 275 degrees.
- Remove saucepan from heat and when bubbling stops add evaporated milk.
- Beat candy with an electric mixer in the pan for about 30 seconds.
- Add vanilla then continue to beat candy until it begins to firm up and you can no longer beat it.
- Pour candy out onto wax paper and when it is cool divide into several portions.
- Roll portions into long ropes that are approximately 1/2" thick.
- Use a sharp knife to slice candy into 1” long pieces.
- Arrange the candy on a plate and let it sit out overnight so that it firms up.

this is awsome who would of guessed. i own stock in the company i like them so much. my son is in iraq for 4 months and i am looking for things to make that are favorites and homade this does both.. its going in his care pkg.thanks..
