- Four cups of brown sugar and two of butter, four tablespoons of water and two of vinegar and a little soda. Boil it until it is crisp when dropped into cold water. Pour into buttered pans and score into bars; or three tablespoonfuls of molasses and two of sugar, two of water and one of butter; add a pinch of soda before taking up. shopping list
