Doombs Crock Pot Potato Chowder Recipe

Doombs Crock Pot Potato Chowder Recipe
This is one of my dad's recipes that has become a true favorite. I've actually tweeked the originally recipe a bit because I love the extra flavor a bay leaf and onion soup mix gives to the boiled potatoes.

Ingredients
  • 9-12 potatoes, cut into bite-size chunks (if using red no need to peel :-)

  • 2 cans Cheddar cheese soup, concentrate (like Campbells)
  • 8 ounce Sour Cream
  • 2 soup cans full Milk
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped

  3. While potatoes are cooking melt butter in a pan.
  4. Add onions and saute for 5-10 minutes.

  7. Whisk in milk and the reserved onion potato water.
  8. Add potatoes, onion and ham and season with salt & pepper to taste.

Love this recipe thanks

I searched high and low for a potato chowder recipe when I finally found this one. This recipe was absolutely amazing. It received rave reviews from the entire group I fed it to with several asking for the recipe.

My mom discovered purely by accident that you don't even have to cook the potatos beforehand. She added the chopped potatos to the crock pot & then poured the soup mixture on top, added the ham, mixed & then cooked on high all day (8 hours). The potatos came out perfect -not too smooshy & much less work. You can cut out the extra dirty pan too.

I used yellow potatoes and bacon instead of ham.
