I started this group out of curiosity for a dish that seems Italian, is called Italian and is not found in Italy!

I have seen countless posts online in blogs and here where people talk about this famous Italian dish. How they prepare it and with what they eat it changes from one to the other and it has even been commercialized in stores!

I did a quick search on google and found tons of results in English pages, switching over to Italian results only I came up with very few... mostly Italians scratching their heads about it and wondering where this all started. Odd huh?

I found a short explanation on Wikipedia, go see:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfredo_%28sauce%29

Anyways, all of this has not made me anti Alfredo, I've never had it myself and am really curious about it since it's caught hold of the taste-buds of so many people.

So join in and add up any Alfredo recipes you have tried and enjoyed, anything Alfredo goes!

*Alfredo's (in Rome, not the New York one) is rated #7 of all Rome restaurants
*They prepare the alfredo dish tableside
*Alfredo www.alfredos.com Piazza Augusto Imperatore, 30, Rome, 00186 Italy
Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, of silent movie fame, were so impressed with this place that they presented it with a gift of gold cutlery, with which the establishment is still pleased to serve on special occasions. Internationally renowned, the restaurant prides itself on its authentic Roman dishes prepared using traditional recipes. Clientele is a mixture of regulars and tourists keen to try out its great fettuccine al triplo burro for themselves.
*And for Scoobydrew, here's the mention of the man's pregnant wife!! (this is a review for the US Alfredo's Restaurant in New York)
Located in the famous Rockefeller Center, Alfredo of Rome is the right pick for a quintessential Italian meal. Named after the original 1914 Roman restaurant, it is most renowned for its delicious Fettuccine. The story goes that the owner's wife only ate Fettuccine when she was pregnant. It's the same recipe that has been passed down through the generations, and has made this eatery famous. Crème de la crème from across the globe have dined at this stylish restaurant. It has also received The Award of Excellence in 2001 and 2002 for its impressive wine list. Whether you're on a romantic date or dining with your family, this is a good choice.

    Wow, now that is interesting!

Thing is that you Americans eat more Alfredo than the Italians! LOL....

I've asked around at work and nobody knew this dish. Some even laughed at the idea... the only place I got a bit of an answer was on Google.

Now we know that there is at least one place in Italy to eat Fettuccini Alfredo! ^_^

The Italians in general have similar dishes but it is not ever named Alfredo. I'll do more research about that and see what I can find that it traditionally Italian and similar.

If you love Alfredo you'll probably love them as well.
