It's Spring Again!

Is this group going to be picking up again? I'm probably going to be needing a lot of gardening advice this summer. I decided to try out some new plants this year.

LOL, I'm sure I'll be in and out of the group.

The man bought me some Topsy Turvey planters for Easter. 2 tomatoes (parks whopper in one, roma in the other) 1 pepper (will put jalapeno on one side and sweet banana on the other) and 1 strawberry.

I also bought a pot of cilantro and some cherry tomatoes that will go in a large pot. Just not up for trying to put anything in the ground this year.

I'm not that great at giving advice but I sure know how to ask for it....google is my friend. :)

I've wanted to try one of those topsy turbey things, but I'm afraid i'll do something wrong and the plant will just fall out of it!

This year I'm trying to grow, tomatos, cucumbers, hot pepers, green beans, and spearmint.

I grew green onions last year and never pulled them out of the ground; I would just snip off whatever I needed. And they came back up on their own this year. I had no idea they would do that.

I'll definitely be in and out now that I've found this group. It will probably be another 4-5 weeks before I can safely plant anything here. The weather has been gorgeous, but I'm not going to let Mother Nature fool me this year, lol. Plus that should be plenty of time for my husband to build my square foot gardening boxes, that I have always wanted.

As for the Topsy Turveys, I had four of them last year. Make sure they are very strongly anchored to your support, they get very, very heavy. A light potting mix for containers or baskets is best. Also they do not like a windy location. Tomatoes worked out the best for me. I tried zucchini and cucumbers as well but no success, not to say they wouldn't this year. I ended up with blossom rot with the zucchini and the cucumbers withered up at the base of the soil. Good luck with the Turvey's and keep us posted on the progress!!

    I'm back too!

We're looking at planting a ton of tomatoes, sugar snap peas, asparagus, and jalapeno peppers this year. Too early to plant for us too, but we've picked up a few tomato and pepper plants to sit in the window and grow for the next month or so.
