Boo....it's over.....

    Well.....that's it. How sad.

LOVED that Anna and Bates had a healthy baby boy. Amusing it was in Lady Mary's bedroom. :)

Nice that it tied up well for Lord Merton and Isobel.

I was sad that Carson developed the trembling. I have never liked Barrow so the fact that he came back as Head Butler didn't thrill me, but I guess if you like Barrow then it was nice.

Nice that Edith and Bertie got back together. His Mom seemed like a tyrant but I'm glad Edith came clean about everything and they can all go through it together.

I never liked this Harry guy that Mary married. He doesn't have enough of an edge to him.

A producer of the show said that one of the hardest scenes to shoot during the finale was
...."with the servants when they sing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ at the very end of the episode,” “When we finished that, we then said good-bye to a number of the actors who were finishing their last scene. And Jim Carter who plays Mr. Carson—who is fine, upright, unsentimental, and as British as you could possibly imagine—made a little speech, and he started crying about the show coming to an end. It was very moving. But it was hard filming those final scenes for each actor.”

I'm just overwhelmingly sad that the show is done. It was epic and provided me with a lot of very enjoyable TV hours. Thank you Julian Fellowes.

I just watched it last night. I can see the show go on for a couple more seasons, how sad it's ended :( I heard that the reason they ended it was because Maggie Smith didn't want to do it anymore, but they could have easily got on without her! That could of been a rumour though?!
I just knew Barrow would be head butler by the end of it! I figured if Carson was too old to do it, then who on earth would replace him? It had to be Barrow, and Mary liked him with George (just like she had a good relationship with Carson as a child).
I was really hoping that Mr.Gregson would come back alive, lol, but I guess that's too 'soap opera' for Downton ;) I am glad Edith finally got her happy ending with Bertie though!
I like how they tied up some loose ends, and gave a peak to where the characters will end up.....and couple up! So it was a good ending, I enjoyed it.
I could see how singing Auld Lang Syne would get them emotional, you could tell--especially with Mrs.Hughes. I just love Jim Carter, he seems like a sweet heart in real life :)
Maybe we'll see some of those actors on different PBS show in the future, I hope so!

That's funny you thought Mr. Gregson might come back alive Shona as that's what my hubby was thinking too! :) That would have thrown a wrench in the finale wouldn't it have!
I did hear rumours of a folllow up movie special on Downton in the future if they can get the actors together. Wouldn't that be fun! Gives us something to hope for anyway! :)

I thought everything got tied up pretty well. I myself believe that Edith turned out to be the "best" sister and the one with the most scruples and sense. I ended up loving her more than ever and really was happy for her and Bertie. Mary and Harry. bleah. I don't care. I don't care that they are having a baby. I am really over Mary. Yeah, she did arrange the meeting between Edith and Bertie but - well, I don't care. :)
I think that Barrow was a very unhappy person and much of it due to his circumstance in life and the fact that he never would be able to do what homosexuals do today - live a normal life with family and romance and love and all that kinda stuff. Especially for his class status. So, I did end up liking him and was very happy for the result of his tale.
I loved that the Dowager Countess got the last word in. Perfect.
My picky little self did not like how they mingled the downstairs with the upstairs. Servants attending high society weddings and drinking champagne and mixing with the "upper" class. I really doubt that historically occurred. And I am certain that Anna (in reality) would have been swept downstairs - baby or not - and not been in Lady Mary's bed. And I certainly don't think they would have been brought champagne by the owners of the Abbey - but I can live with it. :)
