remember sitting at the counter at the old Woolworth stores back in the 70's??? Tjat was some of the best greasiest stuff i ever ate!!! if i could find some of the old recipes( like mac and cheese) i'd be giving my family a heart attack!

I can go back to the 50's and remember buying bulk potato chips,pretzels etc. Those chips were the best. Greasy and salty.

Charles Chips! That's it. Aren't they still around? It was a sandy/beige can with dark brown lettering right? Boy my mind is going. I should make a CRS group!! You people are good. You are right favorite. After the cans,they were sold in the grocery store in the same color in bags. I grew up in NY and loved Horn and Hardart automat and yes I remember the cake. Yum!

I don't think we had a Woolworth's near us, but my mom used to go shopping in Woonsocket, RI and there was one there - always stopped for a grilled cheese and a milkshake! Later, I worked in Medfield, MA and they had Lord's, which was basically like a Woolworths. Every month we'd go buy birthday cards for our employees who had birthdays coming up - great excuse to sit at the counter on those stools and have lunch! :)

I remember taking the bus to downtown Lancaster PA with my Grandmother on a Saturday and we always had lunch at Woolworths on Queen Street. Charles Chips was very near where we lived and my mother-in-law and sister-in-law worked there until they closed. That was a long time ago.

I loved going to Woolworth's to shop and eat when I was growing up in South Mississippi. Mom and I would stop by some afternoons after school. I loved their potato salad.
