Downton Abbey - Prison Scenes

To all the Downton Fans :)......I had a little tiny Downton encounter this past weekend while I was in Lincoln.
Was telling my cousin I was a huge Downton Fan and she said "Well you know the Prison Scenes with Bates were all shot at Lincoln Castle"? No, said I!!!!!! I'd been there before on my last trip here and walked all through the Castle grounds, along the top of the wall and through the prison. Just briefly went to see it this trip but did find this video clip on Youtube which gives you a good idea of what it looks like.

I think that's as close a Downton sighting as I'm going to get this time! Did go to Normanby Hall....

It's like a mini Downton Abbey but still gorgeous inside. They have it set up with the original dining room table and table settings, kennels for the hunting dogs, ball room, etc. Very fun. Pics of that are on Jim's phone and I haven't figured out how to download them on to my computer yet. :)
On the train ride to LIncoln from Cambridge I took the picture below. It's a small town we went through but as soon as Jim noticed the sign, he said "Hey....Grantham as in Lady Grantham". :)

That's so great you got to see at least a little bit related to DA! That castle definitely looks rather prison-y. Normanby Hall is gorgeous. It does looks like a mini DA. At least we know "O'Brien" still has a job. :) Could you easily tell it was her?

Here is something about The Village. I found it by Googling "The Village BBC."

    Sounds bleak!

Lincoln Castle has an actual prison on the grounds. :)
I'll upload a few pics from Jim's phone of Normanby Hall when I figure out how to. It was fun to stroll around.
You could totally tell O'Brien was O'Brien on "The Syndicate". It may be a better show than The Village as I agree that descriptor link does sound depressing. :)

I started watching Mr. Sellfridge last Sunday night when it started and I really like it. It has quite and intriguing story line and the season starter was two hours long. I would recommend that you see the first one if you can as it gives a good intro into all the people and the story line.

Janet, That is so cool about the filming of DA prison scenes in Lincoln Castle! You just have to love all the history around every corner in the UK:)

Oh Joce..I know! I forgot how boring it was..I have enjoyed watching Alan Rickman for the longest time..so I HAD to watch it again...He was dashing in his younger years (Sense & Sensabilities) and now he's just so witty and quite handsome in my book...Frankieanne is a big fan of his as well:) So Frankieanne, if you didn't get a chance to see The Song of Lunch, you really didn't miss anything...

I really like Alan Rickman too. It was just a very bad choice of a movie for him and Emma to do. I kept thinking what were they thinking when they took those parts? How long can anyone listen to a boring monotonous dialogue set in a restaurant? It just went on and on about nothing. I liked Alan in "Mesmer" and "Rasputin" and many other things he has done and of course he was excellent in Harry Potter as well.

Here is an interesting picture gallery of recycled costumes, some of which are from Downton Abbey.
