Supplements?Ice?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm walking around Virginia Beach, looking like Santa smacked me on both cheeks! My Dr. doesn't advocate drugs because I'm in the Pre-meno stage. I say...Bring on anything! I'm a freaking oven!
    Thanks for any advice.
I promise that I won't go "Postal" on this site.

Hi zina, thanks for the note. I was just hoping for some tips. My "Dr." (a man) told me that I'd just have to suffer. I keep a small spray bottle of mineral water in the fridge so I can spritz my face.

I've been suffering for "years" with this issue. No supplements taken. A friend at work swears that switching to soy milk helped her and she takes an over the counter natural based soy supplement. Mind you, she did this on her own. She doesn't seem to be as miserable as the rest of us in our little cubbyholes. I'll have to do more research and reading.

I had breast cancer a few years ago and had a hysterectomy with the ovaries removed. So...because of the cancer I can't have any supplements, but they (the Oncologist and OB/GYN) put me on Effexor. It is an anti-depressant. It works really well. I still get the hot flashes usually 4 or 5 a day, but they aren't half as bad as they were before I started taking them. The effexor is a time release capsule and I take one in the morning and one at night. I can't imagine not having something to help! I'll never be able to take the hormone therapy so I hope these keep working. I haven't had any side effects from the anti-depressant. It's worth checking into. 10 years is a L O N G time to suffer.

If your healthy, and get regular check ups... go to a health food store... a good one. Talk to them.. read up on the net...Webme is great.. My Dr put me on depressants when I was about half way thru... OMG... I would go into kill mode at a drop of a hat! I have fibroid's so they did not want me on lots of the hormones...

I said that if we want to win a war... send menopausal women... would be over in days... not years!

About your DR... that a military one? Slap him and tell him you could not help it.. your menopausal!

Thank you all so much for the Great Tips! I've written them down, including the Effexor. My Dr. is retired military and is a bit condescending, but this is my body, I know how I feel and if he doesn't agree to help me then I'm going to follow linebb's advise and Slap him! Well, at least mentally. Perhaps I'll burst into tears, then I'll find a Dr. who will actually do his/her job and help me. Again, Thanks!
linebb, your right. webmd is a good site.

I'm 46 and so far I haven't started menopause but I want to read all the tips and be prepared. My sister that is 20 years older than me said she could never tell when she went thru "the change". Just one month she had her usual period and the next she didn't and never has since and that was about 20 years ago and now I am that age.I haven't had a period since I was 43 and I was having really bad ones and had some precancerous cells so DR went in and removed those and burned the lining of my womb abd I haven't had one since. I hope I will be as lucky as my sister and not even know when it hits. LOL

Anything with soy in it will help with hot flashes, at least most people. It helped my mom!

Soy has a molecule in it that acts similar to estrogen, which is why it helps alleviate menopausal symptoms.

Glass of soy milk every day or any product with soy in it should suffice.
