Chocolate Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Bars by Mburnett_Larkins

You know when you buy an ingredient for something and after awhile you forgot why you bought it? Well, I had peanut butter chips in my cupboard which I never buy and couldn't remember why. I was craving peanut butter and chocolate but didn't feel like making cookies so I looked for a bar recipe and found this one.
It wasn't what I was expecting, I was hoping to make a cookie bar but this turned out to be a brownie. A denser version of a brownie, crumbly and drier like a cookie but it definitely tasted like a brownie. If you're a chocolate lover then you'll love these, perfect for a chocolate fix! But I was hoping for more peanut butter flavour. My peanut butter hating husband didn't taste anything and thought they were butterscotch chips, lol. But you really can't taste what the chips would be as the chocolate flavour is way too overwhelming.
I guess the chips don't pack that much flavour? I wish I would of used all peanut butter chips instead of the 1/2 cup of chocolate chips called for, so I would make it using 1-1/2 cups of peanut butter chips and leave out the chocolate chips next time. But to be honest, I wouldn't make these again. Nothing wrong with them, they're tasty, the kids loved them, but if I want a brownie I'd prefer my fudgy brownie recipe over this. Perhaps a blondie would have been much better with a mix of peanut butter and chocolate chips to of satisfied my craving?

Beautiful photo Shona, too bad they weren’t what you were looking for, but your kids liked them so it wasn’t a waste of your time.😋

I agree with you about the peanut butter chips. Good to know about this thank you.

Thanks Manella! They weren't a waste for sure, I was just a little disappointed in the outcome, but the kids had no complaints! And my DH was happy too because it didn't taste like peanut butter. :P
I think I'll try a piece today topped with some peanut butter so I can finally get over this PB and Chocolate hankering! ;) ;)

Great photo Shona but bummer the recipe didn't hit the spot for you. When I'm craving chocolate and peanut butter I find a spoonful or two or three of peanut butter with chocolate chips stuck on the oooey gooey peanut butter does it for me. But too I'm lazy and don't make the effort to make anything special.

Nice photo, Cosmicmother! I was thinking they looked like brownies. I haven't tried this recipe, but I have had brownies with peanut butter chips. Your review is exactly what I think of them. You can't taste the peanut butter chips. I don't think peanut butter chips are busting with flavor to begin with. The chocolate does overwhelm. Glad your kids liked them.

Thanks Linda! Lol, I have to admit I to do the spoonful of peanut butter with chocolate chips...probably more often than I'd really like to admit!! Lol! ;)

Thanks Diz! I probably won't buy those chips again, I tasted one plain and it's just too sugary to taste any peanut butter flavouring. Perhaps I'll use the rest of the bag in a peanut butter cookie or a monster type cookie. :)

They do look good Shona, my daughter and husband would definitely love them as they are chocolate and peanut butter fans. My little guy is so dang picky and doesn't like PB! But if you can't even taste the chips I'm wondering if he'd even know they were in there? Lol! Glad the kids enjoyed them :)
