Death Chicken

    Death Chicken
Recipe made for IMI2's October "Pumpkin, Halloween, Octoberfest" 2018 challenge.

I choose this recipe to represent the Halloween part … DEATH.
My review: "OMG Delicious!! and easy to make. I made homemade condensed soup, used the full amount of condensed soup and rice but only half the chicken (half the bacon and a smaller pan too) because I only cook for two. The rice was 'risotto like' and the bacon just melted into the rice mix. There were some fattier pieces of bacon but I just discarded them. The chicken was fork tender and so flavorful. The smell was amazing while baking and the taste incredible! Great recipe Clbacon!!!"

I'm so glad I made the full amount of rice, the best part in my opinion, and used Keni's recipe for condensed soup.
Make It Yourself Condensed Cream Of Soups
I thought the chicken and rice would be swimming in sauce but it wasn't because the rice absorbed it all.

Great find LindaLMT! My mother made something like this when I was growing up. She used cream of mushroom soup and it was one of my favorite meals. Yes, the rice was very risotto like. I have never been able to get mine to turn out like hers. Did you bake this the full 2 hrs as stated?

Thank you Manella, Michelle, and DIZ.
I did bake the full two hours DIZ. Funny, I was thinking mushrooms would be a nice addition … and cream of mushroom soup would be ideal!

That looks super good and I love it when a recipe has a ton of photos attached to it! Shows it`s popular! :) Love that you used homemade condensed soup Linda. Your photo is excellent. Perhaps I`ll make this for Halloween dinner! I too was surprised at the two hour cook time! Nice review!

Made this dish for Halloween Dinner last night. As with anything, everyone has different opinions on it, and I`m afraid neither Hubby nor myself cared for it that much. We both gave it a 4 out of 10. It was easy to put together and it`s great cuz you can prep it ahead of time and then just pop it in the oven when you`re ready. It smells lovely while it`s cooking.

Hubby noted as Linda did that the rice is sort of Risotto like. I`m not a huge rice fan so didn`t care for that part either. The sauce does really soak in to the entire dish very nicely.

I cut up a whole chicken and used all the pieces. I just used four slices of bacon as opposed to 8-10 and my four did cover the bottom of the 13 x 9 inch dish. The chicken was nice and tender.

It was a fun venture for Halloween Dinner. And nothing ventured nothing gained right? :)

Added my photo on the recipe page.

I love your photo Janet! Very "death" like with the skull! :D
My review sounds kind of harsh reading it back now! We all liked and ate the rice but we ended up shredding the chicken for the dogs (they loved it!!;) I didn't use a fryer chicken, just some chicken quarters from the grocery store--I thought maybe we got an old bird or something since Linda liked the recipe so much?
I used about the same amount of bacon as you Janet. I think it's there to line the pan so the rice doesn't stick? Maybe it provides some flavour too, but we found the actual pieces of boiled bacon very unappetizing and threw it out.
I thought about trying it again with a fryer chicken, but decided against it as I think it's just a texture thing for me. I must prefer dry roasted chicken. :)

That's too bad you didn't like this Janet, as well as you Shona :( I think we would like the rice, but I could see the bacon being unappetizing, we need ours crispy for sure! Janet, I think your picture makes this looks absolutely delicious though :-D

Thanks everyone! It`s super hard Shona to announce that one doesn`t care for a recipe. I hate doing it. Like I said, we all have VERY different tastes so it doesn`t mean that the recipe isn`t any good, it just means that we don`t personally care for it. And I do think it is important to say that one doesn`t like a recipe. It`s just like TripAdvisor right? :) You read a bunch of the reviews, some of which are good and some are bad and you make your decision based on that if you want to give it a go. :)
