Green Onion Pancakes

These are delicious!! After reading the reviews I saw that some mentioned that the green onions are not in the directions on when to add them. So my plan was to add them with the flour/boiling water mixture, it was the only place that made sense to me. So I started making this and it completely left my mind and I forgot to add them :( Anyway, so what I did was sprinkle them over top the pancake dough after rubbing on the sesame oil. Then I did the fold up thing, which I'm not even sure if I did right lol and rolled them out. All of the green onions kind of squished out to the edges so you can even see them in my picture. Oh well! These are so delicious it doesn't even matter! And please for goodness sake, don't serve maple syrup over these like some people commented they may do :\ These are not breakfast pancakes, they are like an appy or a side dish to something Japanese. Served them with this sauce, which was perfect!!

Nice photo, Mommyluvs! These look and sound just like the scallion pancakes our Asian friend makes and serves as an appetizer in his restaurants. You're right, these Chinese pancakes aren't at all like breakfast pancakes and are *never* served with butter and syrup. Our friend serves them with a garlic-soy dipping sauce, but it doesn't have as many ingredients as the recipe you posted the link to.

Thanks Bakerme! Like Luisa said, I think some people took the word pancake to literally :P

I made these again, and this time mixed the green onions into the first step, with the boiling water into the flour. Worked much better and felt the onions were more evenly distributed throughout. Still LOVE this recipe, it's delicious and the perfect starter/side to a Japanese inspired meal!! Added a new photo where you can now see the green onions in the pancakes :)

Oh, made up a sauce to dip just by eyeballing: Soy sauce, water, fresh grated ginger, toasted sesame oil, garlic, sugar, lime juice (lemon works as well) and red pepper flakes. Perfect match!
