Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

  • eastcoaster 4 years ago
This is delicious. I used toasted sesame oil but followed the recipe. I added some juice from the jar of roasted red peppers to thin it out, and it worked perfectly.
Hubby had it with Naan bread and I had it with carrot sticks.
We will be making it at home now. This recipe is great and so easy to make.

Nice picture Manella! I have this recipe saved and really do need to make it soon. Red Pepper Hummus is my favorite of the hummus' and I bet homemade is better than store bought. I wonder if I could roast my own red pepper(s) and make it with those?

Good morning Linda, thank you. I'm not sure about roasting the red peppers, you might not get the same texture. The ones in the jar have the moisture (juice) i think that is needed.

Looks great Manella! I must make this again soon, it's really delicious!
I agree with Manella, you need the jarred peppers for this. It has more moisture and a different flavour because of the "pickle" like marinade. I think the juice is the key to make it taste like the store bought roasted red pepper hummus. :)

Thank you Manella and Shona for the recipe tip. I'll look for jarred in the store. I snack on hummus all the time so this is definitely in the near future for me.

Thank you ladies, it is a keeper. I won't be buying this at the store anymore.
I always have the makings on hand. I really like it with rice crackers or carrot sticks.

This looks amazing. I'd love to make it. Thanks so much for bringing it to our attention. YUMMMMM!

Linda, I can buy exactly the amount of roasted red peppers I want in the Olive cart at my grocery store. They sell bulk olives and antipasto and one of the offerings is roasted red peppers. Indeed there's a lot of juice.

Grabbed some store hummis to find out how it tastes and as a comparison when I make the home made stuff. The store had the red pepper stuff but I bought garlic hummis instead. Looks like health stuff as long as I can watch my portion control.

Wanting to make my own Roasted Red Pepper hummus I choose this recipe. It's good but for me is missing something so I compared this recipe to the ingredients of the brand I love and buy often. This recipe doesn't call for any oil like most hummus recipes do and the brand I buy. After looking at other recipes I concluded adding 2 Tablespoons of olive oil would improve the recipe for my taste as well as emulsify the consistency. I added the peppers wet and next time will pat them dry which too will improve the consistency for my taste.
