Salmon loaf

It's a meatloaf made from Salmon. Salmon Loaf Pretty good flavor. It's my first Salmon recipe ever. I'm on a weigh reduction kick. Recipe calls for a can of Salmon, skin and bones removed. I'm sure canned Salmon is already processed that way. So I made it with fresh Salmon that I had to skin and check for bones. Seems to have worked out just fine. Pulse mixed everything in the food processor. There is a typo: Reads 2/4 c milk and should read 1/4 c milk. Added 15 min to the bake time for a golden brown. Served up with iceburg lettuce, roma tomato, and buttermilk dressing. No pic. Don't get excited. Looks a lot like the headliner pic.

Yum! Like a salmon burger but baked loaf style. That’s weird it says to remove the bone/skin ... I don’t know any canned salmon to contain any.

This sounds delicious Points! Lol, that would be weird to find skin and bones in a can of salmon. Good call using the fresh salmon though, that's what I'd do.

Michelle, You find skin and bones in most cans of salmon. Unless it states it is skinless and boneless. I like a salmon loaf, haven't had one in ages.

That sounds like a yummy recipe Points. I`ve got a salmon loaf recipe I used to make quite often that is a crock pot recipe. Did you make your own cream of celery soup? I like the idea of using fresh salmon.

Perhaps our salmon in Canada is canned differently, because as Joce says, ours comes with skin and a bone in the middle.

    Bookmarked to try.

That's interesting, I had no idea that it came with the skin and bones! I think I've only bought it once or twice, so I'm really not one to know lol.

Hi, pointsevenout! That's a good looking recipe. I love vintage recipes! When I was growing up, my mom used to make salmon patties all of the time. It was very similar to this. One of my favorite meals!

I bought some celery to make my own cream of celery soup but got lazy and bought a can of the soup too. Can always turn the celery into a pot of celery soup. And I didn't know the Salmon came canned with skin and bone.
Another assumption in making this recipe is that any canned Salmon is already cooked. So the hour bake time was only to cook the eggs and set the basic shape of the loaf. Given the hour bake time I didn't think using fresh Salmon was going to be a problem. Also used the "egg-beaters" instead of real eggs.

pointsevenout--It must depend on the kind of canned salmon you purchase. I use canned salmon to make salmon patties and it doesn't contain any skin or bones. It's already flaked and looks no different than a can of tuna. I'll pick though it with a fork in case there are a few small round bones mixed it. The bones are soft like cartilage and probably wouldn't matter if you left them in.
