    Rated this a 3 because of the heat level. Recipe specs out a whole teaspoon of red pepper flakes. I saw this early on and only used a half teaspoon. Probably could have cut it down even more. A little heat is OK but I want to be able to taste the other ingredients.
    Other than that the recipe came out exactly to spec.
    Used a 2.5qt casserole dish. A smaller one would have worked too.
    It has quite a bit of cheese/bread crumb topping.
    I am learning to enjoy using water as a saute medium rather than oil but I'm not broke of the habit of grabbing for the oil just yet.
    I used the broiler at 550F (full on) with the rack set just above center in the oven for the eggplant.

    Mother and I were both in agreement that the heat level was a little too much even at the half amount we used.
