Fried Peanut Butter And Banana Sandwich
    by tnacndn

Hadn't had one of these for years...I made it exactly according to the directions in this recipe and the only ingredient I added was a little mayo inside the sandwich.

Grilling the sandwich makes the peanut butter and banana real ooey-gooey and good!

You know, I've heard of these "forever", of course, thanks to Elvis but I have never had one. I suppose I should try one as I do love peanut butter and bananas. Your picture is gorgeous and messy looking. :-P That's a three napkin sandwich. :)

Thanks, Frankieanne. Yes, have napkins handy. :) I debated whether I needed to toast the bread before grilling, but I think it really made the bread extra crunchy and helped keep it from getting soggy from the mashed banana.

Once again GK, you take incredible pics! I have never fried one only just had it toasted. Question what does the additional mayo do to it? I am imagining more creamy but can you taste it in there and does it change the taste at all?

G4U - thank you for the comment! I just like the taste of mayo with bananas because my mom used to make salads with banana and mayo dressing (kind of like Waldorf). I'm sure the sandwich would be just as tasty without it, that was just my personal choice to use it. I also spread a very thin amount on the outside slice of the top piece of bread. It's easier to spread than butter (as I don't often have it soft) and grills just as well.

That using the mayo as butter to fry the bread trick has been brought up quite often here...! My daughter eats these all the time...she does have to have honey drizzled over the bananas though :) That picture is gooey and delicious looking!
