Have you made it?

Just wondering if anyone has ever roasted a chicken on top of bread slices. I was reading a food blog about it. The bread is supposed to get all crispy - not soggy. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this and what your results were.
    Thank you! :-)

No Frankie, I have never heard of such a thing! I wonder how it is done so the bread gets crispy? My immediate reaction was that the bread would be greasy and soggy b/c of the skin and gravity and stuff. I does sound different indeed!

That is interesting!! Maybe the bread soaks up all the juices then gets crispy from the heat? Wonder if it dries out the chicken more.... sounds cool though!

Supposedly you use stale bread. I read that someone used a baguette. You don't want the bread to get smooshed. Its not supposed to get soggy. I read that some people cut them up and use them for croutons for salad. I didn't read anything about dry chicken but that's the kind of thing I'm trying to find out.
It looks like I may have to try an experiment this weekend. Hopefully, though, someone here has tried this.

Make a bread dough. Get it going on its first rise.
Prepare the chicken with seasoning and herbs inside the chicken cavity, under the skin and outside. Paint top of bird with honey and smoked paprika for flavor and color 'cause the skin won't brown encapsulated in the dough. Simmer up one cup of rice; let cool. Roll out the dough; truss chicken legs; place breast down on dough; place rice on chicken back; fold and seal dough over back of chicken. Invert to breast side up on a lipped baking sheet and bake for 1 1/2 hours at 350F.
The rice helps the bread suck up the bird juices.
If you want you can saute up some veggies to stuff the bird before assembly.

No. Did some grazing in cyber-pasture. There are several techniques out there. I put this one together after reading. Also thought about removing the skin so the dish wouldn't be so fatty. But the first experiment is fully dressed.
