I love all things egg related....I have 17 chickens that I fondly call "the girls". There is nothing better than a fresh egg for breakfast.

I am new to this group recipes site so I don't know exactly how it works yet. More to come I am sure.

TS...it's all rather simple... add any egg dishes you would like, share your "girl" stories - I had my first experience with fresh eggs not too long ago when my friend brought to dinner asparagus quiche from eggs that were laid that day... OMG, there is nothing to compare...any dish made with super fresh eggs when compared to store bought eggs. The yolks are soooo golden in color and stand right up - unlike store bought that seem to flatten out.

I also got to taste her cheesecake that her "girls" help be a part of - wow is all I can say.

DO your "girls" have names - are there any special girls - in terms of type of chicken and share with us their lives...

I don't have any chickens either but when I was a little girl we always did. A few years ago we lived in a little house on my uncles farm and he had a lot of chickens. I liked them because he gave us fresh eggs all the time but I hated it on the weekends when those daggum roosters started crowing early in the morning. LOL We get some fresh eggs now from a guy that works with my hubby. He will bring us a couple of dozen or so every now and then.

I have never had the pleasure of getting farm fresh eggs. I'm hoping that I will find a source here in Forest Grove. I always buy the extra large eggs because I am hoping to find a double yolk. I guess it brings the little girl out in me. I don't find them often, but I love it when I do.

I have a funny story about chickens. A few years ago we lived in this little house with a failing air conditioner and not a whole lot of windows so one day it was especially hot we left the back sliding glass door open. I was in the kitchen washing dishes not paying any attention to what was going on behind me and when I finished I went into the Living room and over to the computer desk. When I pulled the chair out of my way I heard a weird noise and looked down and there was a Mama chicken and a whole bunch of baby chicks. My hubby works nights and was asleep in the bedroom so I didn't want to bother him but needless to say when I started screaming because that silly chicken started flying around my living room and baby chicks were running around every where. It took us over an hour to get all those things out of the house. :o)

That's a pretty funny story. I'd be frantic too with a chicken flying around the house...and making a "mess" also, I'm sure! This sure put a smile on my face!
