Brisket...

    Does anyone have a traditional beef brisket with gravy recipe? If so, please post it. There's nothing on GR but chili sauce and onion soup mix or BBQ sauce recipes and that is not at all what I'm looking for. My bubby used peas and potatoes and George Washington gravy mix, possibly. But from scratch recipes are welcome - just nothing sweet or tangy. I want to make the gansah mishpucheh proud. ;)

    Hi BarbieMensher. I just happened to pop in and noticed your query. I have a couple of Beef brisket recipes you might be interested in.
    Here's one of them:
    Sweet And Tender Beef Brisket Recipe

    This is a delicious beef brisket recipe for Rosh HaShana and it is from Lisa Katz at About.com. It's one of my favorites and the meat always turns out sweet and tender.
    Prep:20m Cook:300m Servings:4

    Ingredients:

    * 1 (5 - 7 lb.) brisket, washed and drained
    * 1/2 cup oil
    * 1/4 - 1/2 cup Coca-Cola
    * Note: I have also used apple cider and apple juice.
    * 1/2 cup dry red wine
    * 1/4 cup honey
    * 4-5 Tbsp. ketchup
    * 1 onion
    * 1/2 tsp. Keene's mustard powder
    * My personal addition is 2 apples cored and cut in quarters.
    * 1/2 tsp. paprika

    Directions:

    1. Chop all seasonings in food processor and pour over brisket.
    2. Marinate overnight.
    3. Cook at 350 degrees F, loosely covered, until done, approximately 4 to 5 hours.
    4. When cool, pour the gravy in a saucepan.
    5. Add 1 Tbsp. flour and cook until thickens.
    6. Pour this gravy over sliced meat when serving.

    Glad to see some activity here. My mother's family was Jewish but we weren't raised as such. I love reading comments that help to educate me as to my heritage.
