Favorite Equipment in the Kitchen

What's your favorite equipment you use in the kitchen - ok besides the stove & oven. I mean gadgets to mixers...Curious too, which one do you use most often and couldn't live without? And which one you wished you never bought since it just sits there taking up prized counter space?

    Hi divaliscious,
I have one absolute favorite gadget that I use almost every day... It's called the Canterbury's Crack & Peel. It's a small wooden mushroom. I use it to crush garlic cloves and herbs. It's very handy and does a great job.
I'm not thrilled with our coffee maker. It's a Krups. It makes both regular coffee and espresso and foam. It's a big machine, doesn't have a timer and requires a special degree to understand how to use it. I now drink tea.

I couldn't live without my pans.....When I got a grill with a built in rotisserie, the one in the kitchen hasn't been used so I'd say that's something I have to think about keeping or not.

I just HAD to have a Magic Bullet. Couldn't rest until I got one! LOL...woke Bryan up early to see the infomercial!! LOL I mean, geeeez...look how quickly it makes salsa! I KNOW I can make salsa if I have one of those...LOL...It's good for individual frozen drinks...that's about it... PULVARIZES onions and peppers if you try to chop them...and if you try to make a cream cheese sauce or something...well, it whips what is at the bottom of the container down next to the blade, and all the stuff in the other end of the container just sits there! LOL...OH YEAH, it DOES whip eggs really well for a really fluffy omelette!!!

I love my food processor dearly! I am one of those geeky food people who LOVE gadgets! If I go to Bed Bath and Beyond I have to be VERY careful or we'd be in some serious debt! ;-)

Things I don't use much.... My deep fryer. I used it like crazy for the first year that I had it but now I just don't do much frying. It makes a nice stand for our candy dish?!?!

    My Faves?
    1) Got to say the Kitchen aid mixer I got for $65 - at a tag sale no less - the women said she bought it new and used it only a couple of times and that she had high ideas of becoming Martha Stewart - to her laziness, I bought it (looks and works as good as new) and couldn't be more thrilled since my old sunbeam mixer was on the brink.
    2) Also love the extra-strong blender I have had for years and of course the bread maker.
    3) Lastly the iron clad skillet I got for $10 last year during the post-holiday sales - its amazing...

hates? If I don' t like them - they are out...

I would be completely lost without my kitchen scissors! I agree that some really good (and always kept sharp!) knives are second-to none, but it's my scissors that work over-time!

They snip herbs, cut butcher's twine, snip ends of green beans, cut into packages......and, they require only one hand to use (even if that hand is covered in oil, flour, pastry, sticky from juices -- less risk than trying to use a knife with 'stuff' on your hands!) I use poultry sheers all the time too.

Next up -- my little 'Ulu' knife -- a gift from Alaska! It's a small version of a mesa-luna knife (which I aslo have, both one and two-bladded; indespensible!!) but this 'wee' one does the little job -- like mining garlic, ginger, things like that, when you don't want them as fine as grated or crushed, pressed -- with speed and little working space.

Last -- though I used to be a bit skeptic, my Flavour Shaker (by Jamie Oliver). Though I still use my mortar & pestle a lot, the Flavour Shaker is excellent for all kinds of uses too! Less clean-up than a mini (or regular-sized) food processor, easier (one-hand operation) to use than the mortle and pestle for some things.....I got one about 8 months ago. And I'm a believer now :)
