Frico Friday

  • notyourmomma 8 years ago
I love crispy frico garnishes for salads and soups. When is melted cheese ever bad?
Olivia said, "It is so warm in South Bend, I packed all the wrong clothes." Although I believe it will cool down for the next two days because of a small front.

Lightning win home opener in OT 3 on 3 play. 3-2, so exciting.

I'm not sure about dinner yet.. Maybe spaghetti and meatballs. I am still running a low grade temp and I ache, I'm not into cooking just for me. Actually a frico and a salad would be just fine.

Dogs are being silly. No sign of the little black hen.

Time for coffee. See you later, my friends.

Good Morning Tina! The closest thing I've had to Frico is parmesan crisps in a salad. Glad the weather in South Bend is good for Liv. Raised my eyebrows when you said that the Hofbrauhaus could seat 750 customers! Wow! That is a HUGE restaurant! I don't think I've seen a restaurant that big ever. Congrats on your Lightning win. My Ottawa Senators beat Buffalo 3-1 last night. Really enjoyed the game and so happy that Hockey season is back. That colouring book with puzzles imbedded sounds very cool.
I too have absolutely no clue about what to make for dinner this evening. The chicken wings were wonderful last night.
Joce? Marie? Hope you two are doing well.
Yum on your meatball subs last night Laurie. How is Becca enjoying working at Dunkin' Doughnuts? Wow on figs as big as baseballs.
Oh dear on Caiden getting into some trouble Michelle. Good luck at the Teacher meeting. You just have to stand by him and try make him understand about consequences of actions. He has just started school. It's a whole different world with a whole different set of rules and people to navigate. He'll be fine. Benjamin used to be so strong willed. They tried to tag him with ADHD as well at one point and it was totally ridiculous. I think that's my greatest dislike about schools. They just want everyone to be the same and they do not work around square pegs trying to go into round holes.
Glad you found no mice yesterday Karen. We caught two a week or so ago in the basement and are pretty sure they are more but haven't managed to get them yet. Tis the season.
    Have a good day everybody.

Sorry you're under the weather Tina! Take it easy, a salad sounds good to me. Or maybe you can throw some stuff in a crockpot and have a soup? Whichever is easier my dear! Get well soon :)
Did all the worry dolls help Janet? Anymore news or does Benjamin have to wait until Monday?
I had a bad day yesterday, I got called into the school because Sophia was freakin out. They went on a school trip to the corn maze about 35 minutes away. They didn't call me at the corn maze, but when they got back to school. Anyways, as soon as I saw her I knew she'd been crying for a long time! She got scared at the corn maze and was uncontrollably crying, they had small groups with tour guides, and her guide couldn't control her. The teacher took care of her but still couldn't calm her down. So now she's not allowed on school trips unless I go with her. The day before I was called down because Sophia was in trouble for not sharing her rake (they went and raked leaves in the neighbourhood for elderly) And she yelled and screamed and cried, oi vey, I don't know what to do with her. :( We had her on 3 different medicines for ADHD and anxiety, but nothing works, the adhd med's makes her anxiety worse! She had no problems last year with school, the teacher said she was great! But I think being in a new school with a new teacher has caused a little bit of worry and anxiety.
SO Michelle, I understand! When Sophia first started school it was hard for the first three months, it takes her awhile to get use to her surroundings and understand the rules of course! I'm sure Caiden will get use to everything in a little while and calm down a bit. I'm not sure how they diagnose kids there but here, it usually starts in Kindergarten from a teacher or school Psych. referral. We went to the doctor and they have standardized testing sheets, about 3-4 pages. You need 4 adults to fill them out. Usually two teachers, a parent and another caregiver or someone who spends a lot of time with him---or just the other parent. They compare those results together and come up with a median score to determine. When ours was positive for ADHD, we went to the Children's hospital for a two day clinical assessment. A Pediatrician, Psychologist, Occupational therapist and a Speech and Hearing Therapist. They determined that she has attention deficit but not with hyper activity, she can focus on a task but tires easily. But because she has some hearing loss in her right ear they couldn't completely diagnose with her ADHD, Plus, the Psych determined she has multiple anxieties which can mask as ADHD too! We never thought she had any of that, so I'm glad we had the assessment done otherwise it would haunt us her whole school life like it did my son!
The Teacher plays a big part too, we had such problems with the teacher in grade one constantly telling us they couldn't test her because she wouldn't stay still or listen, we had her put on an IEP (individual education plan) so they didn't have to test her because of her "problems". (You have to have a diagnosis of some medical/behavioural thing to do an IEP) Then she had the best teacher last year for grade 2, she has a daughter with anxiety and totally understood and helped Sophia so much! This teacher for grade 3 is very young, not a mother, and doesn't seem to know what to do with her, oh boy, a long year ahead!
I'm sure you'll figure it all out Michelle, but if you need to vent or ask any questions, I'm here! Hugs! :)

The kids are home for Thanksgiving break, I'm very thankful for the 4 day weekend!! :) I have no idea what's for supper. I slept in and haven't had my coffee yet. Please forgive me if everything I just wrote is a pile gibberish, Lol!
    Have a great day everyone!

The closest I have had to Frico , Tina is like Janet I have only had Parmesan crisps. Wow the Hofbrauhaus is a huge restaurant! I would love to see their kitchens and see how it is organized to serve 750 people.

Congratulations on your new job, Laurie!

My son was hyperactive, Michelle and he still is! He was good on the bus and we never had any problems with him acting up in school so I don't know what to say... except stand your ground with him and also when dealing with the teacher. It sounds like he has some kid bullying him as well. I totally agree with what Janet said. I also agree with Shona. You need to vent and we are here for you.

Glad the Sens won last night, Janet. I was telling Den about it last night and he then told me why Jim his nephew and wife are back in Canada after teaching in Mainland China for a couple of years. It ends out that due to a paperwork mistake his wife and child can never go back to China but Jim can! It seems everyone has to go to Hong Kong to get things sorted out if they can. I hope and pray all goes well with Ben. What a predicament he is in! Pack all those worry dolls under your pillow please!

Shona, We paid for an assessment for my son as well. I did pay off for us as well.

I did go to the picture frame lady and she is very nice. When I opened up the big cardboard thingy it was in I realized it wasn't a Glen Loates print at all but a Lawrence Dyer it looks like this however it is more valuable b/c I bought the first museum print of it and mine is number 37 out of 137 of his original prints. http://www.investinbeautifulart.ca/lawrence-dyer.html
She is very knowledgeable about art and was very impressed with it. I think she is going to do a very good job with it! I am going to Vote this afternoon as the early voting starts today and will end on Monday Evening. Then I will go and pic up Meds and milk and stuff I will need over the long weekend. We are having a small turkey on Sunday or Monday and Den starts two weeks holiday tonight. I know he is really looking forward to it. He will have his normal rib eye steak tonight with fries and I don't know what I am going to have yet. I should also stop by the Kids Farm Stand and see what they have b/c it will probably be the last we see of them until Spring!

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Beautiful print Joce, I love black and white photography!
We're lucky in Alberta, we didn't have to pay for any of the assessments! In BC we had had free care through the Child Development Center, but only up to the age of 5 then it's done through the school system. Here, you're free until the age of 18, thank goodness because Colter is using it for physical and occupational therapy, he'll be 14 next month. One of the reasons we moved here was for better health care, BC is horrible for education and health care!
We're having our Thanksgiving on Sunday as well, Have a wonderful holiday Joce!

    Meatball Soup
for dinner. I think I have some home made bread down in the freezer to go with it.
Hi Shona! No, the worry dolls didn't help. :) I put them back in their little box this morning to be honest. When I'd put my hands under my pillow last night they'd poke into me. :) Benjamin skyped us last night. The Embassy was open and he got in right away but they immediately saw that he did not have the documents necessary to look at his case. So they gave him the information needed and he is to go back on Monday.
The Hostel he was in had no air conditioning and the pollution count is crazy high there so he was having a hard time breathing and said his heart was beating really fast because of his bronchitis.
He was not in a good state. We advised him to go to a clinic and get checked out if he was really worried and we also told him to touch base with the Director at the school for more information and....to go find another Hostel with better facilities.
So this morning when we woke up , he was feeling a lot better. He'd switched Hostels and has a very nice room all to himself and it has air conditioning so he could breathe a lot better. He received a really nice, apologetic letter from the Director and she forwarded on more documents that he can bring along on Monday.
So for now....he's safe and we just have to wait it out. When we wake up Mon. morning it'll be his Monday evening and he should have a pretty good idea whether they'll let him back into Taiwan or not....which then will tell us whether or not we should hop on that plane Tues. morning or not.
I have yet to put a hold on our mail, get Taiwanese currency, stop the paper and of course everything is closed Monday because of Thanksgiving.
Poor Sophia! Oh goodness. It's so hard on kids sometimes honestly. You sound like a wonderful champion for her. She is lucky to have you. I'm glad the kids are home today and you guys have a four day weekend together.
Thanks Joce. It's so frustrating when paperwork problems influence lives to such a degree. Especially when the people involved are not trying to do any wrong whatsoever. Your print is beautiful. Jim and I are heading out to vote in just a few minutes ourselves. That's so nice Den is starting two weeks worth of holidays. I think taking Holidays in October is a great idea.

I hope it works out for Benjamin and you can take your trip, Janet.
Dinner is breakfast, baked eggs in diced tomato, roasted spicy pepper sauce with garlic and onion. Slices of bacon and rye toast.

I've been staring at Lola and freaking her out. She is tired, but as long as I look at her she won't shut her eyes and put her head down, Silly goose.
