Friday in Florida

Good Afternoon All! Wishing you all a great start to the weekend.

Got my grocery shopping done this a.m. and am stocked up incase we get hit with bad weather that they are now predicting for Monday/Tuesday. There is Tropical Wave southeast of us that may bring in bad weather but nobody knows for sure, yet. So just incase we made sure we have groceries and other supplies so we don't have to worry about needing to go out for anything.
It's warm and overcast today with temps now in the high 80's ... beats the temps in the high 90's.
Bought pork chops tonight for dinner and will grill them. I have plenty of sides to choose from too just not sure what I'll make just yet.

Not much else going on here.

Hi Linda. We watched the predictions for Florida weather and where the storm will hit. It is like our weather, maybe yes and maybe no. The rain we were to get is now North and South, not likely to see any here.

Canned five pints of tomatoes and made two loaves of pear bread, which are still in the oven. Tomatoes are sitting on the counter. I have about twenty minutes to sit down until the bread needs checking. Stewing the remaining pears for lunch....they were hard to peel and my thumb joint let me know it wasn't happy. Have to make some sandwich wraps if I find something good for the filling....maybe. Tuna?

    Have a good day!

Hi Linda.. Fingers crossed that the storm misses you. It's always good to be prepared.
You've been busy Karen. We've earmarked next weekend to can the tomato sauce. We usually do 3 bushels.
Not much new here, still hot and humid. I am off to the grocery store then the cottage. Hopefully it will be cooler there. Dinner will be grilled salmon and salad.
    Have a great weekend all.

    Hello everyone :)
HI Linda, hopefully the storm won't be too bad, at least you're stocked and ready :)
Hi Karen, good for you on canning, I love doing that! Sounds like you need a helper, with peeling at least! ;)
Hi Bren, enjoy the Cottage! I hope it's cooler for you :)
This polar vortex only circled in the center of this Province, everywhere else it was warm. It brought snow to the mountains! We had a downpour, and some hail yesterday. Today is clear and sunny, but we're expecting more rain for the whole weekend. We'll take advantage of the nice day today and grill up some steaks for dinner, with roasted steak fries and a Caesar salad.
Still working on finishing up the cover panels and filler pieces, then window trim and backsplash. I have some painting to do as well. My MIL decided to let us finish the kitchen rather then visiting us, so she's coming this Christmas instead. She's a very Christian woman and as much as Christmas is a religious holiday, it is my least favorite time of year. I managed to put off having her and her sister over last Christmas, so I guess I have no choice this year, Lol. ...I'm bah humbug already!! My Mother ruined Christmas for me so much as an older child/adult....(gosh so many stories and reasons why, it would blow your mind!) Anyhoo, I still have 4 months to stew over it, lol...;)
    Have a great weekend everyone!!

Morning! Good job at being all stocked up in case of bad weather Linda :)

Your very productive today Karen! Yum, I could go for a slice of pear bread right now...

Hi Bren! Yum on grilled salmon.

Michael got off work early and we were planning on mowing, but now it's raining so scratch that :( Watching a movie now instead, 33, about the miners who got trapped for 69 days. Was a slow start but it's getting better. Pulled out some red snapper for Michael and I and jalapeno cheese sausage for the kids. Will probably grill both. I have some cabbage to use up so might make a slaw to go with and also have some leftover mashed potatoes. Hope everyone is enjoying the day, TGIF!!!

Sp Shona!! Ugh, I hear ya on Christmas, it is a very stressful time of year. I actually looked forward to it last year, but I don't think I am this year. I never know what gifts to get for people lol, I think that's my biggest issue.

    Hi all.

Bren, I couldn't can so many tomatoes at one time. Wow! Have 18 pints ready for the winter and some sauce that is needing to be used soon. Want to make wine jelly for Christmas presents.

Sophia, we are still I the 90F range more or less. Hot and humid. I prefer a cooler climate but.....
Sorry you have a visiting MIL on a holiday that isn't one of your favorites. We usually have our daughter and GS over for dinner on Christmas, opened presents right away when grandkids were all here and younger, Christmas Eve services; and when our parents were living we alternated going to one or the other. I like decorating for the season, but don't go overboard---the tree, a few chosen items to set out and garland all over the sun room. LOL!

Sending virtual pear bread, Michelle. I have no idea what to fix this evening as the pork tenderloin did not thaw. Since it is from wild boar, don't want to chance setting it out on the counter even for an hour.

Guys are gone and I have to clean up the kitchen or else..sigh! Fritz needs a walk so may walk him out to see how they are doing.

Hi Karen and Bren ... nice that you both can tomatoes. I wanted to learn how to can but DH is afraid I'll injure myself somehow and prefers I stick with getting what I need at the grocery store. Same thing regarding a pressure cooker.

Hi Shona. The most liberating feeling was for us to "ditch" Christmas. I'll put up a small tree and a few decorations but since we don't have children and there are no young children in our circle we don't give gifts and it's been such a relief not getting caught up in the mayhem of it all. Now we can relax and simply enjoy the spirit of it with no obligations. DH and I don't even exchange gifts.

Bummer on not getting your grass cut before the rain Michelle but nice to hear you are taking a brake and watching a movie.

    SP Michelle,

We avoided the GIFT GRAB mentality for Christmas some years ago and just enjoy the religious aspect of the season. It still irritates to see Christmas stuff out at Halloween. Where did Thanksgivig go? Of course our grandson is caught up in the gift acquisition. Ha ha.

We do give a few people other than family reasonable priced gifts...GS Sunday School teacher, etc. plus Wayne's buddy. None of our acquaintances are into the the big gift practice either. One neighbor brings us a homemade bread or pie, and is quite happy to get fresh eggs!

Probably chicken strips for supper. Or burgers even if we don't have any hamburger buns. Ha ha.

Found a recipe for green tomato mincemeat. Since my tomatoes get hornworms or rot when ripe It would be a god idea to use them, and Wayne hates salsa so green tomato salsa is out. Need to pick up the raisins etc. Sunday.

    Have a nice day everyone.

Hi Everyone! I actually have wifi tonight. Whoop! Left Mom's place this morning and we're in Rossport for the night. Heading for Batchawana Bay tomorrow. Had dinner at the only restaurant in town. Creamy bolognese with shrimp over pasta and garlic bread. $24.95. Too much for meat sauce IMHO. It was okay. Will try get on tomorrow morning, but just in case....."HI" to everyone....
