Friday's Finale.....

Good Morning Everyone! I'm just starting to clean up the kitchen after making breakfast for the gang. We had poached eggs with fried tomatoes this morning and I also made a batch of chicken noodle soup as the girls had requested some yesterday. They both had a bowl for breakfast along with an egg. :)

I'm making an appy lunch so that shouldn't require too much effort on my behalf. My floors need a major cleaning and Jim's brother, wife and neice are arriving Sunday so we'll see how much I do this afternoon or put off 'til tomorrow. I'll need to do another grocery shop as well.

It's gorgeous outside with all the fresh fallen snow on the trees. The girls have already been out feeding the birds, squirrels and chipmunks and our snow plow guy came first thing and cleared the laneway.

There is a ton of leftovers in the fridge so I won't need to make anything for dinner.

Love your description of the shower amenities at Lowe's Karen. I love patterns in sinks.

It's been lovely having the girls around. So adorably cute to hear singing coming from a room or their excited chit chat over something they've seen. On the way back from the ski hill they saw a Great Gray Owl on a hydro line so Jim stopped the car so they could take pictures and video of it. The video they took is quite good and they were just thrilled. :)

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Good Morning Everyone. It's Friday and a cold one at that. Woke up to a temperature of only 55(f). My teeth were chattering.

Had a 9:00 appointment this morning for the guy to tint the windows on my car. The front window and front passenger windows were not dark enough so I had someone (he comes to the house) come out and do it professionally. The sun is just blinding and the dark tint makes a world of difference not only to reduce glare but keep the inside a tad bit cooler.

Not much planned today. We had stopped at Fresh Market yesterday, a grocery store I haven't been to in some time and we bought crab cakes and salmon cakes for dinner tonight. I also bought my beloved Café -du -Monde coffee there. Most everything is overpriced so I stopped shopping there. We use to get trout there but when we went yesterday it didn't look good at all so I passed.

Watched a good movie last night. "Kill the Messenger". Based the true story of reporter Gary Webb who was trying to tell the truth about the US Government's involvement in cocaine trafficking into the states.

Chicken soup sounds great for breakfast!! I would love a bowl and should think about making some here ... for breakfast. How old are the girls Janet? They sound like a lot of fun.

Do you have to wait for a bit now to drive the car once it's been re-tinted Linda? Oh yum on crab and salmon cakes. Is the Cafe-du-monde coffee your cold brew brand? That movie does sound interesting. The girls are 9 and 13. :)

It's good to go. It's a film he cuts and lays on the window. I just need to keep it parked in the sun for a day or two so the wetness between the film and window dries quicker.

Café-du-Monde is a brand of coffee with chicory. It "Louisiana" style coffee and it makes for a very rich dark brew and yes I use it for cold brew. I buy both regular and decaf and mix them as I can't handle a load of caffeine.

Wow on the next group of visitors arriving Sunday. When are your current guest's due to depart? I'm thinking after lunch?

Took your advice and am tracking down the family of the author of an old book that I have. It was written and signed by Rev. Samuel W. Purvis from Philadelphia in 1926. It's only worth about $10 but perhaps worth so much more to family. I found his obituary which yielded information about his family and am now finding those people thru other obituaries. It's kinda fun. He was one of the first ministers to preach sermon over the radio so he himself is an interesting person. The book is a collection of his preachings.

Cute letting the girls take videos of the owl! They must be city kids if a deer and an owl are so fascinating to them.

Linda, it is 60 F here and we thought it was quite a nice, warm day. Rain due tomorrow and a mix Sunday.

Chicken noodle soup does sound good. I should make it for supper. We ate at iHop last night. It was not bad. A tad expensive, but not too much so. Love their strawberry crepes.

I have thought of changing my pw on GR, but the horror stories of not getting back into the site are scary. The mysterious black bar has disappeared. Weird. I don’t want to be unable to get back into the group.

The guys have done a lot of work on the back porch in prep for putting a linen closet in and taking out the chimney. My back decided to really hurt so I am sitting still for a bit. Will see how it goes, hope it eases up before tomorrow.... we have to go shopping at Lowe’s and I need to be walking around a lot.

If it isn't broke don't fix it is my motto Karen. Since there is nobody to contact or help for GR I wouldn't mess with the logon or password.
Hope your back feels better. Shopping at Lowe's is fun, I love looking at all the stuff for homes ... some of it is so nice! But since I don't know what to do with any of it all I can do is look, too, we really don't have to update or change anything ... yet.
It's warmed up nicely. High 60s(f) now and the sun is out.

Well I found 2 of the grandchildren (address and phone numbers) for the Rev. who wrote the book. I put a call in to one and left a detailed message. We will see if I hear back from him. My guess is he is between 57-67 years old? I'll give it a day or two and then call the next person. The internet can be a wonderful thing.

Does the film ever lift off Linda? Our guests just left a half hour ago. We're about to go out for a hot tub. It's a lot quieter here now that's for sure. LOL! That is SUPER cool about trying to return the book to the family. Fun research! And FOR SURE there'll be people who will view it as treasure.

I'm certainly not a city kid Karen but I myself get very excited about Owls. Only see them up close every so many years. It's not a mundane experience. :) But yes, these girls do live right in the city of Montreal, in a semi, with a tiny back yard and not a lot of nature around. I sent the girls home with a big mason jar of soup which they say they're going to have for their dinner tonight. There's still enough left for Jim and I to have a bowl too. Yum on strawberry crepes. Sorry to hear your back is giving you troubles! Hope it disappears quickly. Does a heating pad help at all?

Lunch went great and no one wanted to leave. Good for my ego. :)

Good evening and hello to all. Yes, Linda, it was quite cool here this morning. Chloe was not happy at all! Sounds like you had a delightful time with your company Janet. And now more to come!

So glad it's Friday. Looking forward to our family party tomorrow night.

Since hubs had a very light breakfast and lunch today we decided to order pizza. Tried a new pizzeria here in town near by and it was wonderful. The crust was outstanding! Love when we can support locals just starting out. Will definately be ordering again. They also have eat in too so may make a visit one day.

Ordered new chair and loveseat cushions for my porch furniture and they came today. Was hoping they would get here by tomorrow. Only thing is the matching pillows for the love seat did not come. Figuring they will be here tomorrow. They look great! Chloe is carefully inspecting them as I type this. Will no doubt claim as her own soon.

Hope all enjoy the rest of the evening.

What kind of pizza did you get Kimmer? Nice it's local! Did you pick up any Ensure yet? Fun fun that you got new cushions for your porch furniture. Will Chloe claw the cushions?

I got a call that my new glasses are in already! Whoop! I'm so excited.

We got a supreme Janet with pepperoni, sausage, onion, green pepper, mushrooms but held the black olives. I'm just not a fan of those on pizza. I will get some Ensure when I go to the grocery tomorrow morning. On the list! Chloe is very good about not clawing any furniture, not even my living room furniture. She has a scratch pole in the living room and another one with a bed on top in the bedroom so she has plenty of places to properly claw. Plus when she was a little kitty and we first brought her home, when she would start to claw the furniture I would take her and put her next to her pole. So I guess she learned. She does seem quite smart.

    Hi all.

I thought from the kids reaction 5hst they were definitely living I n an urban environment. They must have really enjoyed seeing the wildlife. So funny they wanted soup for breakfast. It is that kind of occasion that they will remember forever.

I see owls every so often around here....twice saw a great horned, which is on on the protected list. I dislike them since they are so huge and have taken out kittens and small dogs. The little barn owls, which I do like, and the smaller types are fascinating, and may they find every mouse in the area!

Hope you can return the book, Linda. Best of luck. I am also leery of messing with GR. I get bothered when it kicks me out and hold my breath when I have to log in

Pizza sound good, Kimmer. I would happily take the black olives! Chloe is so funny!

I don't know why but I LOVE green olives on a pizza but don't care for black anytime. Yum on the Supreme Pizza Kimmer. That's pretty awesome that Chloe doesn't claw the furniture.

Karen, do your cats claw furniture? I've only seen one Great Horned Owl in my entire 57 years and it was from a distance but I could make out the outline. I've NEVER seen a Barn Owl and I LOVE them. I'd be so excited if I ever get to see one.

That's so neat Linda that you called the Grandchild of the man who wrote the book. Keep us tuned how this turns out. :)

Did a once over on my menu for our upcoming guests and tweaked my grocery list. Jim and I have a bunch of errands to run tomorrow to get ready and then I'll do a house cleaning on Sunday prior to their arrival. They won't be here 'til later on in the afternoon so I have some time.

The film can be taken off if needed Janet but once it sets up it’s on pretty good. We had our prior cars done and never had a problem with it lifting/peeling. Pays to have it done professionally and to me wasn’t expensive. The two front passenger windows were completely covered and the front only half way (due to laws) and I paid $115.00. That’s great your glasses are in.

I’ve seen a great horn here and heard them plenty “whoing” back and forth. I haven’t heard them in awhile though. We have burrowing owls here which are cool. They dig burrows in fields. I’m sure there are more kinds too.

Cats do love warmth Kimmer and I’m sure Chloe is much annoyed when it’s cool. Gotta get that girl a heating pad (LOL). That’s wonderful she knows not to go after the furniture.
Nice on the new patio chair and cushions. What color? Pizza is always a favorite for me but still haven’t found a place we like.
If you like ensure you may like a product called Spiru-teen. Lots of flavors. Here is an example. https://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-789-nature-s-plus-spiru-tein-high-protein-energy-meal-vanilla-2-4-lbs

Do you get any barn owls making their home in your barn Karen?

Hi Joce. Hope your reading and just being quiet.
