Frozen Friday.

Good morning. It is 15F outside. Wayne is taking Fritz for his morning walk...he will have to break ice in the horses water tank. Good day to move them to the barn pasture where we can plug a heater in their water.

His buddy is not coming over due the severe cold. Not a good day to work on the RV building, esp the arched metal roof.

Woke up at 5:00. Wayne made it until 6:30! Mel, Trouble, and Mauser jockeyed for the best position, then dozed away. Hate waking so early....ha ha!

    Good Morning Everyone!

Wowzers, that's cold Karen! I'll bake you a virtual loaf of bread to warm up your house. I have a half whole wheat, half bread flour dough that I made last night with sunflower and flax seeds ready for the oven as soon as it finishes preheating. Uugh on getting up so early. How do the chickens stay warm? Do you put blankets on the horses?

It's suppose to rain some time today/tonight and then a cold front will move in predicting high temps in the 60's and lows possibly into the 40's. I'm looking forward to it. I guess people who have their poinsettias outside will have to bring them in.
Took out half a chicken to thaw for dinner tonight and will roast that along with potatoes and broccoli. House is clean. Will go to the gym later in the afternoon.

Good Morning Karen! As Michelle noted recently, it's amusing to hear how we all react to the weather in all our different locations. 15F/-9C is getting cold alright, but I wouldn't deem that severe. :) It would be cold on the fingers working on a metal roof though. Hopefully it'll warm up for you soon so they can finish it. Ugh at waking up at 5 a.m. I never heard of a Rainbow vacuum before. Holy Smokes on all the wild pigs around your area. What do they do with the ones they trap? How lovely you got the Spode Christmas dinnerware. I LOVE stuff like that. Makes the table SO festive! Hope your daughter and GS are feeling better.

No Linda, Jim hasn't found me logs the proper size yet to make those snowmen. He found one but when he cut into it it was rotting in the middle and I want 'nice' snowmen. LOL. :)

Nice to see you last night Kimmer, short and sweet though it was. :)

SO nice to have all the house work done. Jim and I are invited over to my friend's for tea this morning. I'm bringing a Christmas plate full of
    Lemon Meltaway Cookies
for them. Then we have a bunch of errands to do. We may go out for lunch as well.

Jim and I PVR'd the Hockey game from last night. They're playing away (last night Los Angeles) and all the games have come on at 10 or 10:30 p.m. Ugh. Jim has put a couple more logs on the fire so we're watching it now with our morning coffee in hand.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

SP and Good Morning Linda. :) If you're baking up virtual bread, send one my way too please.I love sunflower seeds. Roast chicken sounds wonderful. I haven't put any thought in to dinner yet. Go you heading to the gym. I so need to get back on that treadmill. :(

One virtual loaf of warm fresh baked bread coming your way Janet!! If you "Google" wood slice animals the most adorable things come up!
How nice of you to bring Lemon cookies to your friends for tea. I'm sure they are wonderful!

Thanks Linda. It's nummy! :) I googled wood slice animals. Very cute. There's a hedgehog and a couple of bunnies that are adorbs. :) The Cookies are indeed delicious. I'll certainly make them again in the future. And bonus...it says they freeze well.

I too like the hedgehog! He would be great on the front steps any time of year. Bonus ... or Danger Warning that the cookies freeze well (LOL!). I could never keep frozen cookies in my house knowing they were there calling me to come eat them.

Better in my freezer down in the basement than sitting out on my counter wooing me. :) Made Poached eggs on garlic bread/toast for breakfast.

I will enjoy the bread, Linda. May have to warm it in the oven , even a short, virtual trip here will cool it a bit. LOL!

The chicken coop gives plenty of shelter. They are not uncomfortable. If it gets super cold, we hang a light bulb to provide warmth. We only have six chickens so they are cozy, snuggled together either on the roosts or in the nest area. The horses don't wear blankets, they are in a field with cedar trees that shelter them from the wind, and they have grown a heavy winter coat, unlike pampered race / city horses . We will soon move them to the barn pasture so they can go inside if they want.

Yes Janet it is so funny to hear the different perspectives on cold weather. We have had down to -25 F but it is a rarity. The past few winters have been mild. But I remember winters with ice storms the first weekend in November, and/or two 10 inch blizzards in one week in February-March time frame.

The Spode is the one with a green line around the plates. I liked the set with metallic designs around it, but they only had single pieces unless you bought the set with cups and saucers....I prefer the mugs, and the idea of transporting 32 single pieces safely was not too appealing.

They probably euthanize the wild pigs, Janet. They are highly dangerous creatures, and would kill you if they feel threatened, or are in a bad mood, etc. etc., we try to live in peace with wildlife but they are an exception. Well, the ground hog that has dug into the barn is alsoan exception, I guess, but only because he has invaded our space. If he stayed in the forest we would not bother him.

Wayne saw the cat again. He took off running. I am concerned, but he won't come close enough to capture. He does come to the porch and eat cat food. Hoping he stays in the barn at night. He can get in and out quite easily, as raccoons and pack rats have discovered.

OK it is time to get moving. Lots to do. See you later.

I think your Spode pattern with the green line and trees is super pretty Karen. I realize Wild pigs can be very dangerous. As cool as I think they are, I wouldn't want to encounter one out in the woods. Funny how docile domesticated pigs are vs. the wild ones!!!! Glad to hear the cat is still around.

Our Sens lost again but at least this time we showed up. Gotta get moving too.

When they "round up" the wild pigs here they often make it onto a restaurants menu as a BBQ special. I've never but it's suppose to be good.
Very pretty Spode pattern Karen! ... https://www.portmeirion.com/holiday-favorites/spode-christmas-tree.html

I don't think they sell the meat to restaurants here, LInda. But I really do not know one way or the other. People around here either like the wild taste or are afraid of contracting some horrific disease from anything not raised domestically. We have eaten game meat, including wild pig, and it is quite good. Obviously the smaller, younger ones are more tender, but even some older animals can be good.

I have used this recipe with wild as well as domestic pork. Kicked Up Brown Sugar Pineapple Wild Boar Roast

A restaurant here will note "wild boar". It's either served BBQ (and you really don't know what part you are getting) or ground into a burger. I tried it when one of the restaurants had a pig roast ... it was good. Your recipe looks ideal!!

DH cleaned the master bathroom today and I washed bedding. Going thru paperwork one file at a time and tossing what can be tossed.

My bread came out great! I made DH a sandwich for lunch and used it. It was a little moist on the inside and I can't tell if that's normal or if it wasn't cooked enough, I toasted the bread slices for the sandwich I made but I'll have to read up on how to tell when homemade bread is actually cooked. I do the thump test and go by time and color ... it's not raw, just a little moist towards the middle. ???

I think it's a great idea to use the meat that comes from the trapped wildlife in restaurants or whatever. I know it just depends where you live. Here in Ottawa we have an over population of deer. I've often thought it'd be a winfall for the Food Banks and to be honest, if I had a chance of buying some venison or wild pig at a reasonable price, I'd buy it.

Sounds like you're having a productive day Linda. Nice on your latest bread creation. I think the thump test is usually pretty accurate, as is colour and time. It's possible if it cooled even more you might not be that moist in the center?

Just making up some Won Ton soup. Jim didn't seem interested in going out. We had a nice visit with my girlfriend and her husband then went to Costco. It was a zoo of course being Friday at lunch time. Also grabbed a few things at Sobey's. Going to work on my Christmas cards this afternoon.

I'm going to make Porkchops with Sauerkraut and pearl barley for our dinner tonight. I picked up a movie to watch from the Library. "The Wilde Wedding" starring Glen Close, Patrick Stewart (with hair????) and John Malkovich. Should be fun.

Jim just got an email from his Dad who is wintering in Corpus Christi, Texas. He's all disgusted because his bridge game got cancelled because of snow. LOLOLOL. I noticed on Michelle's FB page this morning she'd taken a picture and there was snow there too. Guess your thread title of "Frozen Friday" is very apt today Karen. :)

I have lurking. I don't feel too bad today. Janet, your Dyson probably shut itself down to prevent overheating. There might be a blockage somewhere in the beater or the hoses or the filter needs to be cleaned. They also have a fuse. Check out their help site and other helpful hints. You can also get direct help from them. I think it is called Dyson Help.com. We have one and it is called an Animal. I am imagining yours might be an upright model.

Hi Joce. So you are feeling better than you did a couple of days ago then? I sure hope so. :( Thanks for all the Dyson tips. We just put it back in the cupboard and I haven't made time to go look at the manual or anything. I didn't know they had a fuse though. Indeed, ours is an upright.

Got a few more letters written for my Christmas cards and Jim has the fire started in the family room. There are little snowflakes coming down but nothing of any size.

The fire is going. Cats are asleep on my lap, couch, on top on a Fritz's crate. Fritz is with Wayne on the couch. It is a cozy, comfy evening. Temps are to drop to around 13F. For those of us not used to Canadian ice use weather, it is super cold. LOL!

We gave our Dyson to our daughter hen her vacuum died, Joce. She doesn't like it either. It is probably that particular model.

The Rainbow is not sold in stores, Janet. it is a franchise like Kirby. It uses water in a basin. We "won" one too their air freshening individual humidifiers, and surprised myself by liking it! I clean it with vinegar and use distilled water since our water is very hard. Love it!

(I had to soak my kitchen faucet sprayer head in pure viegar overnight to dislodge the calcium deposits, our water is so bad. It now sprays again!)

So funny your FIL complaining about snow stopping his activities. When we lived in Georgia, an inch of snow stopped everything. No one but us northern transplants knew how to drive in it. The general idea of lifetime residents was just drive faster to get where you are going! Scary!

    Hi Linda!

We have a birthday party to attend tomorrow afternoon for a 90 year old church member. will pick up a lottery ticket afterward, the total is over $200,000,000. Taking half as a one time payment leaves about 60 million after taxes but I think I could learn to manage.

LOL Karen. You sound nice and snuggled in. Do you guys use a Water softener unit for your hard water/calcium? It is hard for those who are not used to winter driving and snow when they do get hit on occasion. Not only are they not used to it but the cities themselves are often not equipped to handle it or clear it away. How fun that you're going to a birthday party for a 90 yr. old tomorrow. I think when you get over 80 you need to party hearty. :) Wow on the lottery ticket winnings. Good luck. Wouldn't that be something.

The porkchops with sauerkraut and pearl barley was wonderful.

I nailed dinner tonight! Can't believe how good it turned out. I roasted half a chicken seasoned with Italian herbs and Thyme and laid it atop sprigs of fresh Rosemary. Roasted potato wedges with it and the last 15 minutes added broccoli to roast just enough. It made its own natural juice and was just so tastey. Even "Mr. Picky" enjoyed it.

So happy to hear your feeling better Joce. Rest up more though.

Enjoy the bday party tomorrow Karen. I could manage the winnings of a lottery nicely too.

Little snow flakes sound magical Janet. When we lived up North, in the winter, I use to put blue light bulbs in the spot lights and outdoor fixtures. When it snowed I turned them on and it was so pretty.
