King Tut Thursday!

Good Morning Everyone! I must have had a Sleep Debt as I slept 'til 9 this morning. Got 10 hours so that's awesome! It's an absolutely gorgeous spring morning. Jim and I were going to head to the Tulip Festival but it's so nice out and our own yard is beckoning so we're just going to hang out here today, although I am going to do a jaunt into town to hit two more garden centres.

Jim and I had a fun time yesterday! Had a delicious lunch at the Smith and Barrel Pub in Carleton Place. We each got a sandwich but neither of us could eat more than half. I couldn't even eat half. We could have totally just ordered Jim's plate, A Duck Club sandwich with a large tossed salad (had some beet puree at the bottom which was so earthy and yummy!), and both been totally filled. We'd totally do that but we don't want to look cheap. LOL! We brought our leftovers home. I fed mine to the crows today, as warming up fish never appeals to me and Jim ate his last night and pronounced himself 'overfull' again. LOL.

We went to the Garden centre outside Carleton Place on the way home. I spent $50 but didn't see a ton of stuff I wanted to have. I did buy a big pot of King Tut grass (photo below) and a large pot with a big castor bean in it. Both need full sun. I like funky plants. They are both annuals for me but will add some interest to my flower arrangements. I also bought two cherry tomato plants and a beefsteak, a pot of thyme, and two sweet potato vines, one burgandy and one lime green.

Want to try making a braised asian cabbage dish tonight for dinner, maybe with bacon in it. Am going to thaw some b/s chicken thighs to grill and will marinate them ahead of time.

We are getting a late start to the day. Off to make Tomato cheese omelettes with hot sauce for brekkie. Have a great day everyone!

That is a fairly hefty grocery bill alright Linda! I used to pay that when Benjamin was still living at home no problem, but now it's just Jim and I and I shop more often, I rarely spend more than a hundred bucks. But like I say, I do go in and shop often and I also split my grocery spending pretty evenly between Costco and Sobey's. Yum on the fresh fruit. I bought a ton of veggies recently and need to make a point of using them before they start to go downhill. I think the only gnocchi I ever see is Cryovac'd. I think. How was your stew? Sorry to hear Bella's eye is tearing again. Hope she makes out well at her appointment tomorrow.

Yum on tacos last night Kimmer. Hope your internet is behaving itself today!!!!

Good for you getting such a good nights sleep, Janet. No doubt from all the exercise mowing the lawn etc. yesterday. Very cool looking plants. I don't usually spend over $100.00 when grocery shopping but the odd time I have a much bigger one and it is usually due to me stocking up on meats etc. Good luck at the garden centers.

I need to go out and buy a couple of things before the long weekend. On top of Victoria Day Weekend being the start of our busy tourist season our neighbourhood has a garage sale and most of the time when that is happening we can't even get out of the laneway, so we stay put here. I will pick something up for dinner when I am out.

    Good Afternoon Everyone.

Was up and out of the house early to take LD to get a haircut. Came home and made brunch and then got talking on the phone with my sister. It was raining earlier but stopped for now. Going to go out for dinner tonight but not sure where. Want to go to the gym in a bit since we won't go tomorrow because Bella has an appointment with her doctor in the afternoon and I'm not a morning person especially to go to the gym.

Enjoy your lovely Spring Day Janet. Hope you find some more interesting plants at the garden centers. I know what you mean about not wanting to appear "cheap" when dining out. I would be happy and full having just a salad but order meal regardless.
My grocery bills are high because I shop as much organic as I can but still ridiculous. Everything I touch seems to cost between $5-10 and that's not including meats.
When I go to Costco for meats and such it's like $300-400! but at least I'm stocked.

I feel for you Joce with the start of your tourist season. Ours is over and it's a breath of fresh air.

Beef Stew came out great yesterday. I just went ahead and added what it called for even though if I freeze some the potatoes will get mushy. This is the recipe I use except I add carrots, peas, an additional 1/2 cup beef stock, and a little beef boullion, and leave out the Worcestershire and Balsamic. I cook it stove top too. I cook the meat till it's done then add the potato (I only use 2) and carrots and turn it off and let it sit on the stove for about an hour and everything is cooked perfect. I add the peas last. Of course DH wanted nothing to do with it. I believe it's the tomato base and paprika he doesn't care for. Oh well, all the more for me and LD!

Quick hi. In WiFi so can only drop in for a sec. we have RV ‘d to Branson Tuesday and have to return home tomorrow to relieve my house sitters. It was a fun couple days. We are meeting the RV group to play cards after we go out to supper tonight. We usually ea out together, all 16 of us, and lunch is on our own.

Fritz is with us....we keep it cool enough for us and warm enough so he doesn’t get chilled. He does pretty well, seems to like it more as we RV more. It stormed most of th e night and I gave up trying to fall asleep and went into the living room so Wayne could sleep. We are breakfast with the group at the Branson Cafe in downtown....it is cheaper than the tourist places and the food is quite good. No idea where to go tonight...will let them decide.

    Must go. See you later.

Hi Linda! Enjoy dinner out this evening. Nice that LD got a haircut and that you had a chat with your sister. Yes, buying organic items does elevate a grocery bill alright. :) Glad to hear you were pleased with your beef stew.

Hi Karen! How fun you're in Branson! :) Enjoy cards and dinner out. Fritz must be having a blast.

I just, just got home. Didn't mean to be gone so long but that's how long it took! Went to two garden centres and pretty much have all the things I wanted. I bought a Barberry bush that deer won't touch, LOL, and a blueberry bush for the orchard along with peas, cucumbers and a jalopeno pepper. Lots of annuals. I'm hoping to plant this weekend.

Grocery store and stopped to buy wine since it's a Long Weekend this weekend and it'll be nuts there tomorrow. Haven't eaten lunch. Think I'll make up a batch of
    Poor Mans Caviar
and snack on that and nacho chips. LOL!

    Hi everyone. Been super busy.
Nice on the visitors Janet. You are the hostess with the mostest lol.
Surprised Frank today. I hired someone to open the pool while he was at work. Of course he had an off-site meeting so he came home early. He was happy though.
It is so much work to get all the water and the leaves of the cover then take the cover off.
Tonight’s dinner will be chicken stir fry. Although I’m starving right now. Gotta get cooking.

Hi Laurie! Sure enjoyed your photos on FB from Jamaica man! :) That's really nice you hired someone to open the pool. Yay for Pool season!!!! :) Enjoy your chicken stir fry. I am waaaaayyyy behind on the dinner making.

Puttered about in the yard and went for a hot tub and the next thing you know it's after 7 p.m.!!!!! Came in and made some cocktail sauce and shrimp for an appy as I never did get lunch. Also made a Caesar as it is "National Caesar Day". :)

I've prepped the chicken in a marinade and have the bacon and garlic cooked up for the stir fried cabbage. Goodness knows when we'll eat. LOL.
