Monday's Menu Planning!

  • chuckieb 8 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! Not a lot going on here today. Got a bit of the Monday Blahs to be honest. :) Am going to try a new recipe for dinner by Bren this evening
    Shrimp Scampi
Frankieanne gave it a good review. I'm going to serve it over some really nice pasta I bought at an Italian Deli. Should be lovely.
Cold here today. The bird bath had ice on it first thing. Slept kind of wonky and my neck is giving me grief.
Need to do up a menu for the upcoming week. Should browse through the cookbooks I got for my birthday for some inspiration!
    Wishing everyone the grandest day!

Good morning Janet :) I'm not a shrimp lover, but that sounds like a great recipe! My neck and shoulder have been hurting too, I've been trying new pillows lately. The last two I bought have not been good. And then I resorted going through the spare bedroom and kids rooms trying everyone's pillow out-Lol, a bit like goldilocks at the moment! Nothing is "just right" yet ;) Hopefully your neck kinks work themselves out today. I love browsing new cookbooks for inspiration, enjoy!

It's been cold this past weekend, we got snow yesterday. It's melted, and now it's raining--Finally!!! Love it, the plants need it. The cherry blossoms are out, and many of my lilies are leaved out. So it's perfect timing for some water :) My lungs feel a lot better, I still have a nasty cough but at least I'm not wheezing as bad. I still get tired from walking to the kitchen or going up the stairs. But I'm making progress. I got both kids to school today too. Sophie seems much better, and Colter still has a bit of cough, but nearly bad as me. Pete is back to work, so I am on my own for dinner. He was a big help all last week. We never did get anything done, kitchen wise. Pete probably could of started it but I didn't want any dust flying around while I could barely breathe. I think I'll just make a simple pasta dish for supper, we'll see how my energy is later today. I'll just be resting and taking it easy today.

Have a great day everyone! :)

Good morning ... Well afternoon here. Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Brrrr, on the weather, still. It's 85(f), sunny, and the birds are singing. Still haven't seen any hummers at their feeder. If I don't see some within a month I'm going to take it down, I don't want to waste bags of sugar keeping it fresh if they don't come.

Happy to hear you are starting to feel better Shona. Funny how both your necks are pitching you fits. Mine usually does and DH's has been bothering him too. I've been looking for the perfect pillow too and am now tired of spending good money finding one. The one I've been using is an old feather pillow that I grew up with that's at least 40 something years old. My mom restuffed it once probably about 30 something years ago. When my neck gets sore I found this product to be a wonder worker ***** http://www.cryoderm.com
You can find it sold on Amazon too. I get the one with the blue writing, I tried the other one and it gets intesley hot and stays hot for hours, don't even think about a shower till the next day if you use the hot one because a warm shower seems to reactivity it and it burns. The hot one may be better for a larger, denser area like your back ...

Brown belt test starts today, Yikes! I feel ready and I don't feel ready.

Reminds me of the Princess and the Pea scenario Shona! Hope your neck and shoulder feels better soon! Oh yuck at the snow. :( Especially after you guys were getting such amazing warm temperatures!!!! Lovely on the Cherry blossoms. Jim and I are heading to the Niagara region next week and I'm hoping all sorts of things will be in bloom.Do take it easy today. I know you're chomping at the bit to accomplish things, but just tend to yourself and get better and it'll happen sooner and you'll feel a lot better for it.

So weird you're not getting hummingbirds yet Linda. No cats in the area by chance? Ants? Wasps? :) Interesting on the Cryoderm. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR BROWN BELT TEST! You'll ace it I'm sure!!! How many days are involved in testing?

Just picking your brains for a second if I may....in Canada if we want to find the address and phone # for someone we have a website called Canada411 and all we have to do is type in the person's name and the town that they live in and up pops possible matches. Is there a similar site in the U.S.? I'm doing some family tree research on some relatives that live in or close to Mount Shasta and Yreka, California.

Thanks for the wishes. No cats, ants, bugs of any kind ... Not sure why they are not here. I seen one a few weeks ago and that's been it. Test will probably take two days, we'll finish Thursday when we are scheduled again.

Hi Linda, thanks for the cryoderm info, I'll look into it. I have a bit of voltaren gel that I want to use up. I only use it if it's really bad. I bought two really expensive pillows, so I won't do that again. One is a gel pillow, it had good reviews and is comfy. But halfway through the night, the gel moves around my head and I'm sleeping flat on the bed, lol. the other curved foam pillow is too hard, and my fancy spa pillow is too big! It might just be my bed. It's a memory foam topped bed that is really soft, probably too soft. I thought about flipping the mattress over and sleeping on the mattress side. I haven't tried that yet. I had a hummingbird feeder out all last year and never had any come to it. I changed the food every week, and it was never touched. I moved it to a different spot after a few months, and still nothing. We do have a lot of honey bees, bats, hawks and other large birds around--maybe that's why in my case? They came to my old house in the city though....Good luck on your brown belt!!!!

I love the Niagara region- Niagara Falls reminds me of a little town on Vancouver Island called Parksville. A tourist's mecca. It's near Qualicum Falls, but along the ocean in an estuary. So many different sights in both regions :) Retirement sounds like fun!! ;)

Thanks for the links Linda. I did come across info on the White Pages and think I may have a lead. :)

ROFL @ "It might just be my head" Shona. LOL. Parksville sounds lovely. I've never been there. Retirement is fun. I highly recommend it. :)

    Hi Janet, Shona, Linda!

Second attempt to post. If I lay my hand on the lower left corner of the laptop, it does weird things and my posts sometimes go away before I can save them.

Good luck on the genealogy. I think I've said we have my Mom's side trace back to the 1600's but can't connect on the other side of the ocean because of WW II destruction burning many records. Dad's side goes back several generations only, then we can't go any further. Funny thing, my Mom's parents have a common ancestor about three generations before them.

Hoping you all feel better soon, Shona.

We have had hummingbirds but haven't put out the feeder yet this year. They do go for the flowers, though. They ignored the outdoor cats and stayed out of reach. We are down to one outdoor cat now, he is old, and not much of a threat. Although A.C. did manage to get outside and spent a couple of hours out today -- he was a happy kitty but did finally come inside and CRASHED. I have to let him out when Geezer is not around or the result would not be pretty - they will fight like rousty old tom cats - and it is not fun trying to break them up.

My flower bed is done except for a section in between the flower area and some straggly strawberries that probably won't make it. Rosemary is coming up nicely. Not so the lavender, but I put some of each in a pot and they will come in over the winter. Planted a lilac start in the front yard. Crossing our fingers that it takes. We want to put out a couple more bushes but will wait to see the color on this one. A hawthorn tree is in a container and will take a bit of growing before we can put it out. We have what we think is a dogwood but ????? so will put it somewhere that size doesn't matter - when it is large enough to transplant.

They are hedging on the severe storms now - doubtful we will get any here tomorrow night. We shall see.

Don't know about 85 F in the early spring -- we will make the mid sixties today, well, that was the forecast but it has past that already! I am wearing short sleeve t-shits now and the time has come to put away the winter stuff.

    Have a nice day everyone.
