    Good Morning Everyone ...
We've been having lots of storms pass thru, seems like everyday. Yesterday around 6:30 it rained a normal rain and caught this picture of a double rainbow. Hope you can see it.

Thinking about picking DH up today and then going to the grocery store to pick up some steaks and stuff and then coming back to the house to grill. Hoping my plan doesn't back fire ... keeping fingers crossed he enjoys the comfort of home, seeing the dog and bunny, and accepting that he needs to return. I'm running out of things/ideas of what to do when I visit and tired of eating out as it's costing too much $$.

Good Morning Linda! Super cool on the double rainbow. I don't think I've ever seen one. It looks SO tropical where you live! LOLOLOL. You got a lot of housework done yesterday! Very productive!

I had a great sleep. Coughed more than the night before but my rib cage is feeling a lot better and I think I've come out of the 'fog'.

My girlfriend messaged me last night and said she'd like to come over for a visit tomorrow so I invited her for lunch and a hot tub. What that means is that I need to do a HUGE house cleaning today. LOLOL. It really needs it. Major dust.

    Have decided to make
    Buffalo Wings
for my dinner this evening. I have some asparagus I should use up too. Plus I need to think of what to serve for lunch tomorrow as well.

I shall take my time with the housework and just go slow and easy. It'll feel good to get back on top of things.

Have a nice afternoon with your DH. Steaks sound awesome.

Very cool on your family history as well Kimmer. I suspect if you did some digging you might be able to retrieve some documents you thought might be lost forever. It just sickens me when I hear of documents and old family photos getting thrown out. It's just a crying shame.

A kick in the pants about the power train warranty Karen. I guess you don't have any paperwork that mentions it on your initial bill of sale? Yum on dinner at Bulgogi House.

Gonna go rustle myself up some breakfast and go feed the birds and squirrels. Have a great day everyone!

First of all, Linda, Excellent news on the house! What a relief! A great idea to get steaks and grill for you and DH. I bet he will be delighted to see Bella and LD. I hope it all goes well. What a wonderful pic of the double rainbow. I think Kimmer was mentioning it as well.
Don't OVERDO it, Janet, please! Strep bacteria took over a week to settle into your body and as the doctor said it will take a week or so to get over it. Please take good care of yourself. Your house is probably not that bad really!
Den did grocery shopping this morning and we just finished having MacDonald's for breakfast/brunch. It is very overcast and humid here today. In spite of the humidity, he is going to put down some more mulch. Den will have cheeseburgers and fries and I am not sure whether I am having scallops, shrimp or lamb chops for dinner.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Good morning everyone. Beautiful rainbows Linda. I hope that things go well for you today, enjoy the steak and visit.

Oh Janet, do try and take it easy,,,your friend is coming to visit you, not the house and most likely not notice a little dust. Yum, I haven't had wings in years.

My first thought when I started reading was that you would have MacDonald's for breakfast and that Den would have his cheeseburger, Joce, lol. It's really humid here too, sigh.

We are heading to the cottage shortly to deal with the ant infestation. DH was up this week to fix the hot water tank but said that there were ants everywhere. I will install the tv system and go a major clean. Dinner will be the usual grilled steak and shrimp with caesar salad and baked potatoes. I picked up some snow crab for me, DH doesn't like it. Wishing everyone a great day.

Cool picture Linda! I've seen double rainbows a few times but it's hard to capture on camera! I can see that one very clearly! :D Thank goodness the sale of your SC home went thru and you can wipe your hands clean of that. I hope bringing DH home will be good for him, crossing fingers! Hoping you both have a great day! :)

Hi Janet, take it easy cleaning today. Hopefully the dust won't stir up any more coughing! Glad you're out of the sick "fog" feeling. Enjoy the Buffalo wings! :)

Hi Joce, all your dinner ideas sound great to me! Have a lovely day :)

Hi Bren, yikes about the ant infestation! Hopefully you get it under control! Are you staying at the cottage this weekend as well? Yum on steak dinner, sounds like what we're having tomorrow! :)

How maddening about the lost papers Kimmer!! When I first started the family tree I just wanted to write down everything we knew. When I sat down with Pete's Mom and started writing down family members and oral history. She was amazed at how much she forgot! I'd ask, do your remember your mom's siblings....."oh she had a brother so and so" (couldn't remember some names!) Her own Mother kept saying she would sit down one day and write out stories and such but it never happened. Some of what she remembered I was able to verify, and some of it was a little skewed. Same with my Mother's stories. But it's those stories that helped me verify who was who while researching! So I highly suggest writing it all down soon, before it's forgotten! :)

Bummer about the power train warranty Karen! Good that your shop absorbed the cost though!

It's a beautiful day and I don't know what to do. Everyone is still sleeping at the moment. I need to get out later and buy some steaks for Father's day. Pete wants steak and shrimp for dinner tomorrow. Tonight is something with ground beef, sloppy Joes or chili or burgers...lol, we will see.
I had the worst headache yesterday. I took two extra strength advil in the early morning and afternoon. Then just before leaving for physio it was still bad so I took an extra strength Tylenol. The PT said she was going to work on neck decompressions and help my headache too. It hurt a lot while she did it but when I got up my headache was gone. It's tender back there still, but if it relieves the headache then I'm ok with it!
I'm going to work on Pete's family tree some more while I have my coffee this morning. I suspect we will get out in the jungle and pull weeds. I should take a picture of some of it, there's a weed with a yellow flower that is at least 5ft tall. We live in the land of the dinosaurs, and we still have dinosaur sized weeds here! Lol ;)

    Have a great day everyone!

Thank you Joce for worrying about me. I'll take it slow I promise but there's no way I'm not going to clean the house today. :) Yummy on your McD's for brekkie. It's overcast here as well and it has sprinkled. I'm not noticing the high humidity though. We have a batch of baby squirrels out and about. They are SOOOOO cute. All of the food over at your house for dinner this evening sounds delish!

Thank you as well Bren but I'll be fine. Have a good trip to the cottage. Ants are pretty easy to kill, there's just a LOT of them. :) Your dinner sounds awesome. More snow crab for you. :)

Good luck getting rid of the ants, Bren. I hate them! Enjoy your dinner and don't over do it cleaning the cottage as well.

I am glad your headache is gone today, Shona. Lol @ dinosaur weeds:) Take it easy in the garden pulling weeds.

Oops SP Shona! :) You are so right about how one forgets bits of information until a memory is stirred re: ancestry. The more I probe and then ask questions the more answers I get. I just LOVE it. Indeed sometimes family stories are a bit skewed but on the whole I think there's always a grain of truth in them that bears investigating. What a lovely Father's Day meal for Pete tomorrow and I love your ideas for this evening as well.So glad to hear your headache is gone! Some weeds are so pretty sometimes I can't bear to pull them. LOLOL.

LOL. Jim hates ants too Joce. He gets downright angry at them.

Good morning. If you run out of cleaning to do or want a variety, mine is in dire need, Janet. LOL!

Hope your steak grilling and DH home visit goes well, Linda.

Yay on Den grocery shopping, Joce.

    Ugh on the ants, Bren.

    Hope your headache subsides, Joce.

The weeds are taking over here. We have errands to run and horses to dpfeed so well combine those in one trip, maybe! Guess we will have to come back and change clothes before doing that, then pick up a kitten destined for a friend at church. It will need tick removal and de-fleaing , as it is a free-running kitty. At least it is white so I can remove them easily. It will not reside inside near our cats since it is not vaccinated.

Must go. Electrical surge just killed our washer and we need to get a repairman here as soon as possible. May have to run a few loads at daughter's. Aargh!

Oh my goodness at an electrical surge killing your washing machine Karen. :( You guys do get some crazy weather and such. How lovely someone is getting a new kitten. I had two white cats for over 20 years respectively. Muffin and Meepy. I miss them very much. Good luck with your errands and feeding the horses. Is this the last time?

It is not me who had a headache, Karen. It was Shona and now it is gone. I rarely get a headache and when I do, you don't want to be around me. Oh no about your electrical surge killing your brand new washer! Ugh! I hate dragging laundry around. It reminds me of when I was younger and had to use the laundromat. Nice of you to get the kitten ready for its forever home.

Breaking for lunch. I've swept the floors, vacuumed the area rugs, and dusted. Need to swab down the bathrooms and then wipe down the floors and I'm done. I took a cream sicle break part way. :)

Oh no on the washing machine Karen! I hope it's fixable!

Way to go on the cleaning marathon Janet! :D

I went outside and was attacked by flying insects of every kind, Pete and I were both swarmed up the legs by biting ants so we declared WAR on them! The rain yesterday washed away my Neem oil spray so I'll have to mix up another concoction and spray again before going back out there. I put sloppy joes in the crock pot earlier and Pete took Colter off to work. I still have to go the store and the day is almost over! So the weeds won out again!
This will be Sophia's first time trying Sloppy Joes, I hope she likes them! I used this recipe, for the most part Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes

Have a great evening everyone :)

We are back and the ants weren't as bad as DH described. I swept them up and put down more ant traps. We were half way to the cottage when we realized that neither of us had packed the tv stuff and decided to leave it for another day. I had planned on washing the dishes but forgot the soap...do you see a trend here? I got the bathroom cleaned and called it a day. We have finally found a sofa that's in our price range although I am not a fan of the colour, it's burgundy and DH's fav. colour.

I went back and read yesterdays post. Shona...very impressive ancestry. I find it fascinating one area of the body effects the others. So happy that your headache is gone. The black flies were brutal at the cottage so I know what your going through.

Linda, I am so pleased that the house has sold and there is one less thing for you to worry about.

That's so sweet of you to deliver the kitten, Karen. Ugh on the washing machine. I hate lugging laundry around.
Dinner is ready, gotta run. I hope that I didn't forget anyone.

Oh dear on all the insects Shona. That always drives me buggy too. And such a lot of work to have to reapply the neem oil each time it rains. Thanks for the reminder actually as it's been raining here off and on the last couple of days but when it stops I'll have to go out and reapply it to a couple of my lilies.

Glad Hubby overestimated the ant problem Bren. LOL @ your tasks not getting completed because of missing supplies. Ah well...tomorrow is another day. :) Glad you found a couch. LOL that it's your hubby's fave colour but yours, not so much. :)

It was a really nice day with DH! I picked him up around 11:00 and we stopped at the grocery store for dinner items and such and dinner items for tomorrow as well. He was so happy!! I bought lunchmeats and made us sandwiches for lunch to hold us over till dinner. He puttered around the house for a bit and then settled down on the couch and watched a movie. He grilled the steaks (NY strip) and we had asparagus and sliced tomato to go with them. I normally don't eat steak but did tonight and it was good. Soon after we ate and I cleaned up he was ready to go which surprised me. LD was very happy to see him too.
We got some rain right around the time we were eating. It thundered and lightening but a normal rain followed, no storm.

Glad you are pacing yourself Janet and not wearing yourself out. Happy too to hear you are starting to feel "normal". Sweet on the baby squirrels. I haven't had a cream sicle in forever, I'll have to put it on my grocery store list.

It's humid here too Joce. Nice that Den does the grocery shopping. I'm always up for a cheeseburger :)

Yuk on the ants Bren. Do you know what kind you are getting? Hoping they are not wood boring. Is the trip to the cottage a long one or one that can be done in a couple hours? Burgundy is a good couch color ... it's one of my favorite colors ... that and browns for material furniture.

I love Sloppy Joes Shona ... the crockpot recipe you linked looks good too. Is it one you've made before? Sophia doesn't know what she is missing, I hope she enjoys them. Glad your headache has let up and is gone. Our bugs are voracious here too which is why I stay in or out of the grass.

That's wonderful you are placing a kitten Karen. That stinks about the power surge and your washer. We have a whole house surge protector because of the storms here. All I know about it is the power company puts it on and we are charged $10 month for it but it doesn't work.

In that my realtor helped me so much on a personal level with the house in SC (not just selling it ... but checking it every week, arranging for repairs, grass cutting, etc.) I sent her a gift certificate for dinner at Capital Grille steakhouse. She is having dinner there tonight with her husband and text'd me a picture of the two of them enjoying themselves and thanking me. She is one AWESOME lady who I will never forget.

I'd ask Jim to buy me some cream sicles to soothe my sore throat last week and they have done a lovely job at that but be forewarned Linda, they are on the list of "Things that tasted better when we were kids". :) So happy to hear you and your DH had an enjoyable day today. How nice of you to get your realtor a gift certificate for dinner out. That's really nice.

Wings are in the oven and I am enjoying a cocktail. I think I'll slice some tomatoes as a side and keep the asparagus for tomorrow's lunch.

I can live with the colour, Janet, and the savings will go to Annie's surgery. It was a difficult decision, the surgery, but she is starting to swing her leg when walking and that will lead to hip problems in the future.

I'm not a fan of steak either, Linda, but glad that you enjoyed yours. Lol, I remember paying my sister 5cents to eat my beef chop. Perhaps the home visit will motivate your DH to try harder at rehab. No idea about the ants but they are huge and one or two had wings. That is so sweet of you to treat your realtor to dinner.

I don't think that we've ever had sloppy Joe's, it's probably the name lol lol. DS and I are the same, we love finger food as long as it doesn't get our fingers dirty.

Drats! I was so looking forward to a cream sicle Janet but as you noted, not as good as they use to be.

Is there a place you can take a couple of the dead ants to Bren to see if they can be identified. If they are wood boring you may need to treat.

:) I'm tickled to hear you are going for Annie's surgery Bren. I SO know what a horrible decision such a thing is. Hugs.

I could be wrong Linda, but I think because of Canada's frigid winters? we don't get the really bad wood eating ants here that are in some of the states in the U.S.

There isn't anywhere that I can take a sample that I'm aware of Linda. The winged ones did remind me of carpenter ants. Two years ago there was an infestation at the lake but luckily we where there when they first appeared. I didn't have anything but a can of Lysol to deter them but it worked, unfortunately they settled into the cottage next door and did major damage.

Thanks, Janet, it was a very difficult decision as the Vet thinks that it's genetic and she may need both hind legs repaired. She's only six and already showing signs of arthritis but she's ours and as I say to DH "we chose her, she didn't choose us" so we will do the best that we can for her.

Such a hard decision Bren to make regarding Annie but as you say she is yours and you have to help them. I know from personal experience with many pets and never regretted the money spent on them. It's just an outrage what is charged but then again it's worse what medical care cost for us. Have faith in your vet and hoping it all goes well. Have you scheduled a date for her yet?

  • gaspesiangal 6 years ago said:
The cost is outrageous, Linda, almost 4 grand for day surgery. The Vet will cut and rotate her tibia then reattach her ligament. I can't get a second opinion as there are only two Vet's that are qualified to do this surgery and they cover almost all of Ontario, part of Quebec and northern New York. The sad part is that there are so many that can't afford to treat their fur babies due to the cost. We are thinking of booking for the first week of Sept. so we can have her recoup at the cottage as it has far fewer stairs.

Someone mentioned the high cost of K cups for Keurig, Janet?, I bought this and it works well : https://www.amazon.com/Reusable-Single-Keurig-Stainless-iPartsPlusMore/dp/B00LGEKOMS/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_79_bs_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=001KD2JR3KWGN6FV6D84
