So-So Saturday

    Good Morning Everyone!

So happy to hear you don't have mischievous ghosts Karen. Good ones would be ok but bad ones would have me a little freaked out.

Happy belated anniversary Michelle ... after the ball games are over you'll have to do something special, just the two of you, even if it's something simple like a movie or dinner.

How did your cooking ventures yesterday turn out Janet?

Dinner was fabulous last night. We had met another couple out at an Italian restaurant. I had a tossed salad and their "specialty" dish, spaghetti and meatballs and it was great. Very typical meal, I know, but they are known for their meatballs. DH had Caesar salad and chicken picatta. It was nice to be out.
Getting dressed I concluded there are still clothes hanging in my closet that I hate. I must of changed 6x trying to find something to wear. Stuff is just out of style and it looks it so I'll be going thru things again. I'm not surprised, these are clothes from several years ago that I wore to work. Nothing is wrong with them which is why I hang onto them however they just don't look good on anymore or at least to wear I'm wearing them. By the time I'm done donating clothes I'm not wearing I'm afraid there won't be anything left in my closet to wear. I'm not a big "fashionista" type person but I do need something other than tshirts, jeans, and sweatpants.

Not much planned for the weekend other than the norm. How 'bout everyone else?

Morning Linda! Glad to hear you had a great dinner out with your hubby last night. I love Chicken Picatta but Jim not so much. I haven't made it in forever. I SO need to go through and purge my closet of clothes I haven't worn in years. It's getting so full it's hard to hang things up in there anymore. :(

I'm surprised that the Baseball games for Bri's age are held so late into the evening Michelle! Belated Happy 9th Anniversary! Have a good weekend!

My kitchen is a DISASTER! Because of all my cooking yesterday. Dinner was good. Wouldn't make the Mongolian Beef recipe again but the Tangled Thai salad was awesome. My spiralizer is a Dud. :( The crank handle isn't connected properly and so I had to manually turn the beets and carrots myself (resulting in a small knick out of one finger). I'll have to return it. I loved the result though.

Jury is still out on the Bone Broth. I'm skeptical because the initial recipe was to make 6 quarts and I halved the recipe and still have 6 quarts. I followed the recipe to a T. The only thing I'm thinking is that maybe when he said to simmer the stock he meant with the lid off? even though he didn't specifically say to do that. I haven't looked at it closely yet this morning. The tell tale sign will be to see if it gelled. If it didn't I suppose I could put it back on the stove top and reduce it? I'm a bit disappointed at this point. We shall see.

Not exactly sure what to do about dinner. It's supposed to get up to 17C/62F this afternoon so I'm tempted to BBQ something.

The broth did gell. I had a taste test. It's good. It's more flavourful I think than my normal chicken broth I make from leftover carcasses. Would I buy $15 worth of parts and pieces to do it again. Probably not.

Ouch on the finger Janet! 1 out of 3 is still good, sorry it wasn't 3 our of 3 ... Perhaps you are right and should have simmered the stock with the lid off, it should have indicated one way or the other, arrghhh, hate when they don't say and you have to find out the hard way. I remember long ago making crème brule for a birthday dinner and the directions had it start stove top and never indicated to bake it ... served it and it was soup.

Glad you enjoyed your dinner out last night so much, Linda. I need to get rid of huge amounts of clothes as well.
Happy belated anniversary, Michelle. I am also surprised they play ball so late as well, especially on a school night.
My spiralizer was a dud as well, Janet. I actually pitched it out. I pretty much always simmer things with the top off. Unless the recipe tells me to use it. None the less I am glad your broth turned out well.
Oh my on Fritz eating Wayne's hearing aid! I have heard of remote controls, phones and a bunch of other things but never would have thought about hearing aids!

It has been a hectic and upsetting couple of days here. They are going to build some new houses behind us at the back of our woods and they will be very near the railway tracks. Anyways they have been marking our lawns to show where the gas lines, Cable, Bell and things are. Well, they started digging up the front of our lawn again yesterday to make these trenchless tunnels and lay new gas lines in to go down the street and then go around the corner and eventually into the woods. O.K. I can put up with the front lawn again as it is not our property anyways. They have a sod lifter so that is O.K. The first 6 ft belong to the town anyways. Then they had a gas leak and they had to shut the gas off almost all day! Nearing the end of the day I was watching what they were doing to my neighbours lawn and they were lifting up a bunch of pavement I presumed from the street as I couldn't see around my car. When the guy came to turn the gas back on he mentioned they had dug my driveway up at the end which is where the gas leak was! I was livid! I am sure my blood pressure went sky high!
The driveway we put in is even higher than road quality and if the town came to fix it the would probably use cheaper stuff and we would have an ugly looking patch on it! When Dennis came home he hit the roof too! We did eventually settled down after a couple of drinks.Prior to that, the air was blue! Then this morning Dennis went grocery shopping and noticed some of the workers were working down the street. When he came back from shopping he went to talk to them and then scrapped his car passenger doors on their big truck. They weren't worried about their truck at all! Thank God! They said they knew our driveway was of a high quality and assured him that it would be fixed properly, thank heavens! Then he came home and called our Insurance Company and the Agent was very nice and all we have to do is get an estimate. Bottom line it won't cost us a dime! He will get a free rental car when his car is being done. Sorry, I am rambling.
I will have baby lamb chops for dinner and Den will have his normal BBQed cheeseburgers and fries. I better go make us some lunch.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

I'm disappointed to hear your spiralizer was a dud too Joce. I REALLY like the finished product and it just makes veggies look a lot snazzier. I know there are manual ones too. Perhaps that would be a better idea. Sounds like a lot of upheaval going on in your neighbourhood. LOL @ "We did eventually settle down after a couple of drinks". LOL. And argh on scratching the car. That's a pain. Glad the Insurance Company will cover the repairs but it's still a PIA. I could SO go for a BBQ'd cheeseburger this evening. Jim would go for your lamb chops. :)

    Jim and I decided on
5 Spice Rock Cornish Game Hens
for dinner although I'm short the coriander. Will just wing it. Will serve Edamame on the side.

Got the back flower beds cleaned out as well as the one on the south side of the house. My back is KILLING me. But it looks good. :) Jim's been busy cutting some dead cedar trees and harvesting them as he wants to re-do our fence at the front of the property.

Yikes Joce ... what a day! I hate being in construction zones. Twice now we've been and it is not fun, very upsetting to current home owners. The development we are in now cost us 5 flat tires ... can you say 5! from nails and screws picked up on the road ... oh but they keep the roads clean. Bullxxxt! And then scrapping your car door only ads injury to insult. Hope things get better for you.

I hope when I finally do decide to pull my spiralizer out of the box it works. I have a hand held one that works well enough and was happy with it but for some reason DH decided I needed a bigger and "better" one but for what I don't know because he wouldn't eat anything I would make with it anyhow.

Nice on getting the flower beds cleaned out Janet, I however can feel your back pain.

Our developments fitness center is closed for about 2 weeks so we bought 2 week memberships at a local gym. It was "entertaining" ... between the girls in their tight little outfits and the meatheads all tattooed up all I can say is I'm glad I have a smaller more private place to use.
Grilled steaks for dinner, steamed corn on the cob, grilled some broccoli, and sautéed some edamame that needed to be used.

    Night all.

Can you tell me more about your hand held spiralizer Linda? I'm thinking that might be the way to go. LOL @ your hubby deciding you needed a fancier one. I popped a few anti-inflammatory's and I'm all good. :) Your usual fitness center sounds more up my alley. Your dinner sounds amazing!
    Night all! Sleep sweet Kimmer!

Quick hi to let you know I am still above ground -- LOL!

Went to an auction in Arkansas and on the way home ran into rain, then a zillion bugs hit the windshield and dampened the stuff we had in the back of the truck. All the icky hail and lightning stayed parallel to us thank goodness. Storm watches are out. The line switched direction and our daughter was a bit. Concerned -- she is panic prone storm watcher.

Tired and ready for a good nights sleep. After being crated all day Fritz resembles a whirling dervish or Tanzanian devil....he is not ready for bed.

    See you tomorrow.
