Spare-ribs on Sunday!

  • chuckieb 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! -27C-16F this morning when I woke up but it's supposed to get a lot warmer by the end of the day and up to -11C/12F by this afternoon. Even warmer overnight. The turkeys will be happy! :)

So what's everyone up to today? How are the roads Karen? Are you and Wayne heading to Church?

Sounds like you enjoyed your dinner out last night Karen. Good you got your tree and decorations down as well.

We don't have any big plans for today. Think we're just staying put. I think I'm going to make my Grandma McDonald's
    Sweet And Sour Spare Ribs
for dinner tonight with mashed potatoes and spinach on the side.

I'll probably give my Mom a call as well. Benjamin is going to Skype with us later on this morning which will be nice.

Wishing everybody a lovely, relaxing Sunday!

    Good Morning Everyone!

Still chilly here this morning but not anywhere near the low temps that you are having Janet and Joce and Karen.
Not sure what we are doing today. Probably will stay in. Need to get the bathrooms cleaned today. Will pull out a pork loin for dinner tonight and roast that along with vegetables and I may have a salad too on the side.

Enjoy your Skype with Benj Janet and too hope your mom is doing well.

Oh yes, and we are of course having mashed turnip (rutabaga) it wouldn't be a turkey dinner for me without it.

Your dinner plans for this evening sound great Linda. I try make a concerted effort not to do housework on the weekend as then I still view the weekend as something special. LOL.

Big YUM on your Turkey dinner Joce. Deelicious! I'd even be up for trying the mashed turnip. :)

We had a lovely Skype chat with Benjamin. He's wanting to book a flight to Vietnam over the Chinese New Year. A good friend of his in Taipei is joining him so I think they'll have a fabulous time. We chatted with him about our plans to visit him in April. He thinks we should both rent scooters while we're there as our main means of transportation. Jim agrees it's a viable idea. I think they're both nuts.

Your turkey feast sounds so good Joce! Enjoy.

I'd rather do the housework on the weekends Janet and have the week free when it's less congested to get out and do things.
Scooters!! We've rented them and taken them out when visiting islands to get around but my husband always drove and I was on the back. Would I get on one now ... no way! Too easy to get hurt if loose control of it and skid out. I'm too woosified and prefer my feet on the ground.

I've never been in Pingtung where Benjamin lives now so maybe it's super quiet like where my Mom lives in Rainy River (seriously doubt it). I know Kaohsiung is almost as big as Taipei. The scooters go in clusters that move like a wave down the street. I have no interest whatsoever in being inside of that. I also hate feeling like a wuss and having Jim and Benjamin nod in agreement that all will be well and me being the one that says "Ya, I dunno". We'll investigate further. Benjamin seems to think we could just rent them and as long as we have our Canadian driver's licenses with us that that would be all that is required but he doesn't truly know the laws for sure. At this point he has been driving his scooter all over the place with no license!!!! I ask him today if he was close to going to get it and he said yes, but does that mean this month or this year sometime? Feeling a little exasperated. LOLOL.

Made Kraft dinner with hot dogs for lunch.

OMG about not having a license for the scooter. Me, I'm too afraid of foreign laws. When we renter scooters on the islands there was one place that wanted to hold our passports ... I said no way, you have a credit card for payment and that's it. We would not have been able to get back on the ship without our passports.
I'm in your camp Janet about scooters.

Good evening and hello to all. My vote is a no on the scooters as well Janet. Yikes!! I can't even imagine it there with tons of other scooters along side me. I'd probably get arrested for road rage, lol!

Was a lovely day today. Warmed up which was nice and now we will keep warming up all week. Chloe was finally happy as I opened both her porch and pool doors today once it warmed up. You would not believe how vocal this cat was when they were closed! But again, she would only last two minutes in the cold, lol. She's been busy today stalking the squirrels. It's funny, she will see one at the pool side as it runs down the fence to the porch side or vise versa so she will run thru the house to get to the other door. So crazy!

Did end up doing some more errands but got out early so still had all afternoon at home. Making meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn for dinner tonight. Good comfort food for us. Loaf is in the oven now. Doing some prep work for tomorrow as I plan on making lasagna soup in the crock pot. Have my ground beef browned and about to cut up the veggies for it. Saves so much time on a work morning to have most of it ready to go.

    Hope all enjoy their evening!

    Hi all.

We hit sleet and freezing rain on the way. Roads were salted heavily. It stopped sleeting just after Houston. Attendance was LOW! Just before church the sleet and / or freezing rain started again. Church parking lot was a sheet of ice.The guys sprinkled ice melt on the steps and part of the parking lot.

We had coffee after pot luck and chatted until it changed to rain and warmed up to 32F to melt the ice. The ride back was uneventful, but we are glad to be home. The good thing about it is that we finally got RAIN! It is really coming down and is so badly needed.

No scooter is a wise thing, and please check the laws! Glad you had a nice Skype with Benjamin, Janet.

Turkey dinner sounds great, Joce I would have to try mashed turnip, have never eaten it.

January is one of our coldest months, noted for ice storms, and unpredictable weather,

Linda. I prefer housework during the week, habit I guess. To each his own.

So funny on kitty shenanigans, Kimmer. Traveler has not been seen yet today, probably hiding from the rain. I put food out for him.

    Have a nice evening.

Ya I agree Linda, I never would want to part with my passport. Yikes.

LOL @ road rage Kimmer. LOL. You made me laugh out loud. :) Glad Chloe got out onto the porch. LOL @ her hunting the squirrels! She'd have a blast at my house!!! Yum on your dinner. GREAT comfort food. Lasagna soup in the crock pot also sounds wonderful. I was going to make some Celery Soup today but of course was missing some of the ingredients.

Glad the ice melted and the weather improved for your return trip home Karen.

I'm a total rule follower so there's no way I'd go out on a Scooter without a license or whatever is needed.

I did end up doing some housework today. :( My front entry way was super dirty....salt and such brought in from our winter boots.

I borrowed the DVD "Paddington" from the Library yesterday and have watched most of it this afternoon. I talked to my Mom. A cousin of mine had brought my other two aunts over to Mom's apartment and they'd all had apple pie and tea. :) Jim's on the phone now talking with his Dad.

My spareribs are in the oven. Starting to smell yummy.

Need to work on a menu for meals for next week. I've been bad doing that lately. Only been planning a day or two in advance which makes it harder.

There were 20 turkeys and three deer out in the front yard late this afternoon. LOVE it!!! Feel like I'm living in the 100 acre woods. :)

Made Jim and I a cocktail this evening which we're currently enjoying in front of the fireplace. An Extra dirty martini. It's pretty good. Jim bought me this neat bottle of martini mix for dirty martinis which is a combination of lemon juice and olive brine. I love olives.

I think the older we get the more we have to loose which is why I too "follow the rules". And I especially don't take chances outside my own country.

So cool on all the turkeys and deer Janet!

It did get nice out today Kimmer. It was still cool but the sun was warm and it wasn't breezy which made it pleasant. That's sweet Chloe got to enjoy some outside time. Yum on meatloaf ... true comfort food. I've never had lasagna soup but do want to make it soon. Do the leftovers hold up well?

Yuk on having to fight the sleet and freezing rain to get to church Karen. Good though the temps rose enough for it to turn to rain making the ride home easier and too that your getting a good soaking. Hope Traveler is in the barn keeping the horses company.
