Sweet potato fries suck Saturday....

Good Morning Everyone! Just about to head out but wanted to touch base. I was going to make Lemon Brined Rotisserie chicken for dinner this evening but realized last night that there is SO much food in the fridge there's NO way I would be able to fit two ice cream buckets in it to brine the chicken. So......change of plans. Dinner will now be....
    Chalet Style Chicken
with baked potatoes and sauteed asparagus. Think I'll also do a plate of sliced tomatoes with olive oil, balsamic and black lava sea salt.

Dinner went well last evening. Much to our surprise when we pulled off the BBQ cover there was a beautiful squirrel nest built on the front shelf. Completely finished and all made out of fine strips of red cedar. Needless to say we had to move it. No one home at the time. :) Poor Red.

The ribs turned out great but the sweet potato fries sucked. I was really disappointed. The flavoured aioli helped but the fries were quite mushy. The grilled veggies were nice.

Bring Jim's brother and SIL on a drive over to Pakenham to see a bunch of family tree stuff including their Great-Grandfather's Homestead.

    Wishing everyone a great day.

We finished up the last of the leftovers last night too, Janet. Lemon brined chicken sounds wonderful, do you have a recipe? Oh dear on the squirrel nest. There was a very fat mouse in ours one year and needless to say the grill got a good cleaning.

That's unfortunate about the sweet potato fries.

I really need to get some cleaning done today and the laundry is piling up. Dinner will be grilled steak and shrimp, I may make scampi for me, with baked potatoes and caesar salad.

Good Morning Everyone! Just want you all to know I've been keeping up with the reading just wasn't able to spend time chatting. Too much going on and trying real hard not to get upset about stuff because getting upset doesn't help so I've been trying to "just be" and to take care of myself.

That is funny finding the squirrel nest Janet! I bet you were surprised but you have to admit it is a good spot if you are a squirrel. Bummer on the sweet potato fries. I find too that they don't get the same crispy crunch as regular potato fries but I don't mind them.

I need to get thru some paperwork today Bren, cleaning will wait. My office is getting disorganized with paperwork and I need to nip it in the bud sooner than later.

It is so dry here. We need rain as Tina noted. There are so many wildfires and some that are downright frightening and our home backs up to a large wooded area. Please please rain!

Oh how neat to find the nest. Better an empty squirrel's nest than the hornet's nest we usually find in our grill.

Bummer on the soggy fries. Good sub on chicken.
Oh, they just made parmesan crusted baked green beans!! I want some.

Dinner will be the pork fried brown rice. Adding asparagus to the peas and sprouts. I have oyster sauce and sriracha to pump up flavor.

Olivia and Scotty are going to Notre Dame intersquad game. Mid-fifties perfect football weather.

Fires are still burning. $5k reward for tips on arsonist who started the destruction. Awful.

The fires worry me Tina. It's overcast and looks like we might get some rain today and I really hope we do. What's the weather looking like up where you are?

Hot, dry. It is bad when your grass is crispy when you walk on it. I hope your clouds yield some precipitation. Linda, having a wooded view is lovely until you have the dry season. The yard has some deep sandy spots my once clean dogs are digging deeper to get to cooler sand. I have to sweep. The sand they drag in is like ball bearings under my feet and I'm going to fall. Dogs don't wipe their feet, unfortunately. Lol

Bren, yum on Caesar salad. I haven't made a from scratch one in forever. Scotty only likes a real dressing, hand mixed with anchovy and coddled egg. Have you had a big increase in lettuce prices that we have? A case of romaine is usually $20. Now it is $60. Restaurants are having to absorb the increase but it is tough.

So floors are my priority. Then bed linens. Then kitchen countertops. The avalanche of papers needs sorting shredding and disposal. Ugh. I need a nap.

Good choice for dinner tonight, Janet. I have tried a few brands of sweet potato fries and I didn't like any of them. Squirrels must like cedar for their nest b/c that is what they used for the nest in Dennis' car. Enjoy your outing today.
Ugh on the mouse nest in your BBQ Bren:(
Yes please do take care of yourself, Linda. I am going to do a BIG Rain Dance and sending good rains to you!
We have had hornets try and build a nest in our BBQ as well, Tina. Your dinner sounds yummy, minus the hot sauce of course.
Den is having his regular fare of cheeseburgers and oven fries and I am not sure what I will have yet.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

So that explains why the last time we went to California PIzza Kitchen for a pizza and salad the once "full" size that we ordered now looks like the "half" size. Instead of changing their prices they greatly reduced the portion.

Animals are certainly in nest mode....must be Spring again!

We have pack rats in the barn, they dragged a bunch of plastic electric fence parts and assorted other items into the hay to put in their nests. (Butterscotch killed one a few years back and it was as big as a small cat). Mice once moved in to a car and ate the wires, but not in the BBQ smoker, yet!

So far no squirrels. Ha ha! We have lots of cedars for them but not close to the house.

Hope you get rain, Tina. We had a good rain and it seems like April is finally living up to its reputation. I hate the fire season around here when grass crunches under your feet and the fire danger is so high it is scary.

It is the heavy rain in California that disrupted the planting season for lettuce. Scotty has to price out everything for his food costs at Three Birds. They are having a delicate dance to satisfy the customer and maintain their margins.

I finished up the last article I needed to write for the Rabbit Rescue I support (their newsletter) and this woman has a blog that features a lot of great looking recipes and she has a bunny (well had) and talks about him. Passing it on if anyone wants to looks thru the recipes. She's a graphic artist and her pictures are to drool over!

Yikes on the GIANT pack rats Karen! Are they an aggressive rat?
Cheeseburgers sound good Joce. I was so hungry yesterday and was craving a good burger so we went out to lunch at Outback Steakhouse and we each got their grassfed burger. It was wonderful. Had mine with cheese and raw onion and DH had his with cheese and bacon. It and the fries hit the spot!

Food Network is doing a burger show now and it is torture.

Maybe when the travelers get home we can go out to engine#9 for one of their masterpieces.

Oh my on the pack rats, mine weighed in at 165 and answered to the name Fred.

I just did a walk around of property slowly and carefully. I have a list for the young un's. Dead plants, missing fence boards, shredded umbrellas, they have some spring spruce up to do. I'm tired of the look of despair and neglect the house projects. Fred loved a pretty entry and bright flowers.

Good afternoon to all. Sorry the fries weren't so good Janet. Aaawww on the squirrel nest. Shame you had to move it. But obviously you did, lol. What fun on seeing the great grandfather's homestead! Tina, the Gulfport Casino sounds wonderful for the wedding and certainly love the travel theme! How unique. Make them young un's that list!! As Linda said it, Yikes on giant pack rats!!! I noticed the price of lettuce last week on my grocery receipt. I paid $2.39 for a head of iceburg. Was sure I had boo booed again and pick an organic one but no, the receipt just said iceburg lettuce. Usually it will have the word organic. Honestly didn't look at the price when I bought it, just grabbed and went on. Was in a bit of a rush. Will have to look and see when I go in a bit. Don't need any but going to check the prices on that and romaine.

Been busy cleaning and doing laundry. Fun Fun. Have most everything ready to throw in our overnight cases. Truly looking forward to a nice hot shower and my jammies later. Not sure what's for dinner. Probably just going to wing it or get take out of some sorts.

Will try to pop back later. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Kimmer, enjoy your mini getaway. A three pack of romaine was a dollar more last Wednesday to prior Wednesday. Got two loads of laundry done. My arms hurt. I need a break.
