Thimbleberry Thursday

  • mommyluvs2cook 7 years ago
I have never heard of a Thimbleberry before! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubus_parviflorus a lot like a raspberry, but softer and since it is so soft, it cannot be packed or shipped so that is probably why I have never seen them or heard of them :)

I meant to pop back in here yesterday, but didn't get the chance.

I have never used more than one meat for meatloaf Linda, but I've seen many recipes call for 2 or more, so it must be good!

Janet, glad your mouth is feeling better without that tooth :) Nice on the long chat with Benjamin!

Hope Colter is much better and all cleared up today Shona. Was he able to get back to school today?

Wow on your kitchen arriving in 170 boxes Bren, makes me exhausted just thinking about it!!

How much fun on having the wedding date for your daughter set Kimmer :) My husband and I went to Jamaica for our Honeymoon as well, stayed at Sandals and had the time of our lives! Wow on the neighbor, talk about overboard!!!

Cool on the new job Laurie, enjoy!

Going to do a lot of baking today. I have decided to put Caiden on a gluten free diet. He misbehaves at school constantly, EVERYDAY, and I am out of options of what to do anymore. My last resort is a friend told me about someone she knows with a troublesome child, and as soon as she put him on gluten free, he got much better. Anyway, so I will be making muffins and bread and such. We do have a parent/teacher conference with his teacher today, so I'm sure we will get an earful even though we already get a call from her about twice a week already, ARGH. Dinner tonight will be either taco's or leftovers.

Pics. below of the kids pumpkins they carved yesterday :)
Crossing fingers they all upload right side up and not upside down lol!

Beautiful photos Michelle. Super cute kids!!

Gluten free may be the answer for Caiden. I've read a number of articles that believe that diet is responsible for medical and behavioural issues.

I've never heard of a Thimbleberry and googled it. Cool, thanks.

It was exhausting, Michelle and I hope to never do that again.

Shaking head Kimmer. That was way over the top. It sounds like that woman has some serious problems, be careful!!

Congrats on the new job, Laurie.

I'm not sure what dinner will be at this point.

    Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning Michelle! Cool on the Thimble Berry. I'm pretty sure we used to have them in British Columbia when I grew up there as a child. Shona? Do you remember them in B.C.? I want to say I remember one growing out beside my Dad's workshop but I'm not totally wanting to trust my memory. :) Good Luck with the gluten free diet for Caiden. I love the photos! I especially love the baseball stuck in the eye of Bri's pumpkin!

Hope you got a good sleep last night Bren after doing all that heavy lifting and inventory. That's a shame that you had some missing and damaged boxes but really good you did check through, and to be honest, that is a normal thing to have happen. Hoping Ikea gets you straightened out asap.

Oh my goodness at your new neighbour Kimmer. I honestly can't even imagine. Can't imagine a gun being drawn either. Or calling a Sheriff. That's quite an ordeal. Makes me again count my blessings that I live out in the country and can't even see any neighbours on all four sides.

Glad to see you check in Laurie. You haven't been here in ages!!! I think it's very normal for a teenage girl not to be keen on moving away and heading off to college at first. Is her boyfriend somewhere else. That always makes it tougher too! Hopefully she'll get settled in to a routine soon and meet new friends and feel more comfortable. Congratulations on the new job and I hope you love it. You've been with Macy's for a very, very long time so it's weird to think of you not there at all anymore. Bonus on the chocolate covered strawberries and Wine and beer!

Have to head in and get some blood tests run. Will grab brekkie in town after that and then run a few errands, groceries, Costco, etc. Jim has entered the whiny man cold phase and I'm afraid my throat is starting to hurt a bit this morning as well. Boo.

Wishing everyone a great day. Will figure out dinner later.

    Good Afternoon Everyone!

I too never heard of a Thimbleberry Michelle but now I have. I hope your DS's new diet will help. I believe so many issues are diet related, not that what anyone is eating is bad, it just doesn't agree with them for some reason ... almost like an allergy. Another possibility may be that he simply is bored and perhaps not being challenged enough? But I know very little of the situation and it's just a thought.

I thought I had the neighbors from hell Kimmer. Ours are just horrible and we've had to get the police involved numerous times because of their behavior. It's a long story ... You did the right thing filing a report. People are out of their minds these days and I believe it's gotten worse because they've gotten use to intimidating others and bullying. Good for you and your DH standing up and not putting up with it, just watch your back and trust nothing.

Good luck with your bloodwork Janet. Don't forget to pick up ear plugs while out running errands now that your DH has entered the "whiny man stage" of his cold. :)

    Hi to everyone else!!

Have Kenpo this afternoon then after that going to vote (we have early voting) and then something to eat.

    Good morning
Yep, we had those berries on the coast. We had a huge bush on our property. The flowers were beautiful, but the birds and deer always ate the berries. :)
I got Colter to school, he surprisingly didn't put up a fight. I guess he didn't want to get anymore behind in school either. ;)

We tried gluten free with Sophia too, but it didn't help with her. Our Pediatrician specializes in ADHD and behavior problems. She said to go off of wheat, dairy, soy, eggs and corn as those are the major triggers for adhd. The only thing that really helped was going dairy free. With Sophia we had to go off all of the foods at the same time, then phase one food back in at a time over a month. With the milk she said to start with lactose free, then move on to regular milk (each new food was 3-5 days to see any changes) We introduced all the foods back in but stayed on lactose free and we noticed a big change. Not hyper anymore and more focused. She's ok with a little sour cream, but everything else is lactose free or vegan. Another trigger for some kids is food dyes, especially red and blue. Just a little bit can cause major behaviour issues as well. Other triggers can be food preservatives, those same preservatives can be found in fresh tomatoes, oranges, grapes and canned beans.
At Sophia's last screening, they said she just has anxiety with slight ADD, but no hyperness. So I think the less dairy and no dyes have helped her for sure. We went from, "she needs Adderall" to "she's just fine now", lol ;)
Good luck with the diet, hopefully you find something that works!! :) Those pumpkins are cute, very creative with the baseball and tears of pumpkin seeds, lol, love it!

Hi Bren, is someone building all the cupboards for you too? That was actually the quickest part of our whole kitchen, surprisingly! :)

Hi Janet, I hope your not coming down with a cold! Make sure to get some dequidin, those really soothe the throat. And zinc lozenges, I swear by them!! I tolerate the lemon ones, but the babies of the house only like the berry ones, lol ;) I've also been taking oil of oregano everyday; I'm the only one that can tolerate it--I put water in a shooter glass with 4 drops and down it so it doesn't touch my tongue. I think it smells like pizza, but everyone else doesn't like the smell ;)

Hi Kimmer, yikes on the neighbour!! She sounds like she's unstable, perhaps has a mental illness? By the husband's reaction, it seems like she acts like that on occasion so maybe she went off her meds?! That would be scary though, so I'd just ignore her the best you can. My Mom is Bipolar and she's done things like that more then I could possibly count, my dad always has to step in but he usually tells people why she talks like that. Perhaps your neighbour is too embarrassed to say she's having a manic episode?

Hi Laurie!! Congrats on the new job! That's sweet Rachael doesn't like to be far away form home! That is a long trip back and forth for the weekends. I'm sure she'll settle in soon :)

Not sure what to do today, I'm all alone though-- finally!!!! :D
Dinner is chicken something? I'll have to think about it, I have boneless chicken breasts to cook up.

    Have a great day everyone!

I gotta try the oregano oil Shona ... any particular brand you prefer?

I get an organic one called Holista, I don't know if you can get that brand where you are? Holista Organic Oregano Oil
I get it from my local pharmacy.

If you take zinc or other med's, then take the oil of oregano a couples hours before and after other med's and supplements. :)

    Enjoy your Kenpo class Karen.

Good to hear Colter went back to school today. Hopefully he won't have too much catch up to do.Goodness at all the food triggers for kids these days. Nice that you got Sophia's figured out. You have ESP Shona...I grabbed some Dequadin lozenges while I was out. You and Joce were mentioning them again the other day and I remembered to write them down on my list. :) I'd sure like it to pass me by. Want to go visit a friend for tea tomorrow but won't go if I'm sick. Enjoy your day and take it easy. You've been playing nursemaid for a while now and need to get a bit of R&R yourself!

Got lots accomplished errand wise. Got my blood tests done. She had to poke me twice as she couldn't get any blood to come out on my left arm so switched to my right. Jim ran and got us McD's for brekkie while I was in the line waiting. Did the banking, Costco, groceries (bought some Rockets to eat for Halloween treats) :) and grabbed some wine for dinner. I'm going to make a Ham and Scalloped potato casserole with cheese and onions. Good ole comfort food.

Gonna work on my recipe binders this afternoon and get them off the kitchen island. :) Jim is lighting a fire in the family room and curling up beside his box of kleenex.

Yes, Shona, we're having the whole job subbed out. We've done our share of reno's and aren't up to it any longer.

I've used oregano oil and it does work. I couldn't eat a pizza for weeks afterwards though. I have a friend that puts it in her pasta sauce.

My mom used to make ham and scalloped potatoes Janet, yumm.

The kitchen is gone and it went really well. I thought that there would be a whole lot of smashing and noise but it wasn't like that at all. He unscrewed each one and carried them out. I am very impressed!!

Don't take zinc or any meds at the time Shona, just supplements and vary them from day to day. I'll look for a good oregano oil. I was going to order the monolaurin from Lauricidin but it's expensive! I want to supplement with something now as opposed to waiting to get sick. In the meantime if we go out we disinfect our hands continuously.

Speaking of essential oils, I had ordered Clove Bud and Chamomile essential oils for the diffuser. LOVE LOVE LOVE the clove bud, it smells fantastic! I used it last night and mixed it with cinnamon. I'm not a fan of chamomile from the bottle ... but will try it in the diffuser. My friend said if I still don't like it to rub some on the bottom of my feet before bed to relax.

Nice to hear Bren that your kitchen reno has officially started!! Keep us posted.

I bet the Clove bud does smell wonderful Linda. I wouldn't have thought that Chamomile would have a lot of scent to it.

It (chamomile) does because it's a concentrated oil but it's not soft and floral like the tea. Kinda smells like dirty old socks but I did add one drop to the lavender I'm using tonight and it's not unpleasant and hopefully it's therapeutic value will be enough.

    Good evening all.
All is calm on the home front tonight, lol. Just a quick post here but must say, dirty old sock smell is a way of life here with two boys, lol! Ben tends to bring in a batch of his dirty fermented socks from his truck every couple a weeks. Generally feel like telling him to throw them in the garbage, and some times I do! I'll buy you new! Point is........I'd probably feel right at home with that scent! But I always have to ask him........why do the socks come off your feet the moment you are in your truck.........lol! But I know the answer, he has to wear heavy work boots all day and when he is off work, they come off along with the socks!!! Can't say as I blame him, especially with our heat here.

Made homemade pizza breads tonight. Used a garlic flavored naan bread and oh my heavens it was deeeeelightful! Usually just use a regular flat bread of sorts, which we alway complain about because of the lack of taste. Lady from the deli told me to try this and yep, she was right. It turned out very soft so not like a piece to hold on to and eat. But that quite appeals to hubs and I with our dental issues.

    Sleep sweet all.................as always.................
