Thursday's Tulips!!!!

  • chuckieb 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! Jim and I are off for breakfast at McD's in just a bit and then I have a Dental Cleaning appointment. After that we're going to head down to Lansdowne and go see the Tulip Gallery. A friend gave us free tickets. Ottawa is famous for it's Tulip Festival and it is on now until Monday. People from all over the world come to see the tulips which are planted in beds all over the downtown area.

I may make crepes for dinner if we get home quick enough for me to make up the crepes. I made some stuffed mushroom caps up yesterday which we didn't eat so I have those on hand.

Very much looking forward to our jaunt. We may get a thunderstorm this afternoon though. Will have to pack my umbrella.

How fun you're heading to St. Augustine again Kimmer. Cayce will do a great job of caring for Chloe I'm sure.

I'm glad you found a nice spot for your DH Linda and my heart goes out to you with all you have on your plate. Good luck with the attorney on Wed. And good luck with your visit this evening. Gentle hugs.

Yes Bren, I am still in shock over last night's hockey game. We played so well. Wow. Can't wait 'til tomorrow night.

    Wishing everyone a lovely day.

Morning Janet!! Fun on the tulip gallery, the festival sounds like a blast and I bet it's beautiful. Yum on crepes, I haven't made them in forever. Do you use a crepe pan or just a skillet. I'm wondering if a crepe pan is worth getting because I have no problem making them in a skillet. Oh and your lettuce wraps were so good! I had to take the picture on my dang phone though cause my camera battery was dead and I have the worst time getting them to load right, so I'll get it posted soon!!

I have to run to the store to get ingredient to make a cake in the morning. The church camp that Bri is going to is having a cake auction Saturday to raise money for the trip. I made Michael a pretty awesome chocolate glazed Bundt cake for his birthday that I might make. Bri keeps saying I should make a carrot cake but I recently just threw my round cake pans away because they were super old and the cakes were sticking. So I think I'm gonna stick with the Bundt and not bother with buying new pans yet :)

The Girl Scout Moms have a meeting tonight at IHop about the Costa Rica trip. Should be pretty informative and hopefully I can get some of my questions I have answered. So that's my dinner and everyone else will have to figure it out for themselves lol!! Have a great day everyone!!

Enjoy the Tulip Festival, Janet. It is so pretty and you are right it brings tourists from all over the world. I was thinking about making crepes as well this week. YES, what a great game!
No, don't bother buying a crepe pan, Michelle. I have one and never use it anymore. I just use a skillet or frying pan just like you. Good luck making the bundt cake and I hope you have a good meeting tonight.
Linda, I am so pleased to hear you found a place for DH. I hope everything starts to fall into place for your sake. HUGS)))
I am sure your kitty will do just fine while you are away, Kimmer.
I can't remember the last time I had a good night's sleep either! They have clamped down on doctor's who give out sleeping pills here, as they are very addictive according to my doctor. She has tried me on many different other pills that didn't work for me. I am like you Bren I just live sort of like I am exhausted all the time. I am not sure what dinner will be yet. It is going to be another hot day and then tomorrow it is going down into the 60's go figure!
    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Hi all,
Rachel is still working at Dunkin Donuts, she had an interview with a local pre-school on Monday It seems it went well. Our neighbor works there and she texted Rachel to say that everyone was talking about how awesome Rachel is. lol The director took her into one of the classrooms and all the 4 year olds were sitting in a circle talking about Mother's day and a girl Rachel and Becca babysat was there (she is very sassy-as the girls say) so she raises her hand and the teacher calls on her and she says "Ms Rachel is MY babysitter" and everytime the director or the teacher would tell Rachel something she would say "Ms Rachel knows THAT, she is MY babysitter!" pretty sure she is getting the job lol
Becca started her job a few weeks ago, I feel like they are taking advantage of her. She is supposed to work from 10-5 on the "shop" week and from 3:30 to 6:00 on the "academic" week. She has only gotten out once on time. and I am not talking a few minutes like 7pm! The office is not computerized and their filing system is a mess. she has to pull the files for the doctors to see the patients that have appointments for the next day. Who ever heard of a doctor's office this day an age that isn't computerized???
I guess a mistake was made (not by Becca thank god because I don't think she could handle it) but the person pulling the file pulled the wrong file the patients name was the same and the birthdate was one day off and the wrong person got told they have cancer. UGH.
Its in the 90s today I will I was out in the sun!

    Hi everybody ne.

Love the tulip pictures Janet! Enjoy McD breakfast!

Michelle, the bunds cake idea sounds wonderful. Chocolate is the hidden food group!

Joce, has the dr. Tested you for sleep apnea? Wayne had those symptoms and when they did a sleep study he was awake 11 times in one night and did not recall waking up.

Scary mistake, Laurie, and one of the easier ones to make.

Kimmer, Chloe will be fine. She will miss you and when you return she will either crawl all over you or turn her back. We had one that would pretend to ignore me but peek out the corner of her eye! So funny.

I planted the two mints in a laege container, the oregano and basil in the flower bed, the begonia in a decorative pot, and the rhubarb in the garden. The lavender will go in a pot and in the flower bed. I have another basil which will be potted also. Everything else will have to wait. I got a bit too much sun and have to stay inside to recouperate for a bit. AC and Trouble are outside, Mel is hiding and Mauser is walking around chirping for attention.

It is more humid, which makes it feel hotter. I dread summer with 90 F + temps.

Guys are coming in. Back later.

Hi Joce! Thanks for letting me know about the crepe pan, I won't even bother getting one then :) I take a Magnesium pill every night before I go to sleep. I've never slept that great before, but since I've been taking these, I sleep pretty much every night all night through.

Crossing fingers Rachel get's the job Laurie, sounds like she is! That's too bad about Becca's job though, hopefully the hours will straighten out eventually. Omg on the wrong person being told they have cancer, that's awful! They really need to get with this day and age and get everything on a computer.

Sounds like you have a nice little garden going Karen! I didn't plant oregano this year because it always grows back on it's own in the Spring, but this year it didn't :( Wishing I would have planted some! It's always humid here too...ugh.

What an awful mistake, Laurie! I hope they apologized profusely to the poor person. An easy mistake to make though when they are using an old filing system like that without any computers.
The only way I can take Magnesium is putting it on my skin in an oil form, Michelle. Then it is absorbed through the skin. If I take Magnesium in a pill form it acts as a laxative on me.

No, I don't have sleep apnea, Karen. I wake up from pain, unfortunately. I am on the maximum daily dose of Lyrica as I have nerve ending pain and Fibromyalgia plus IBS. There is always one of those things which awaken me. Or all of them.

Good afternoon everyone. That sounds like a fun filled day Janet. I hope you get back before the storm hits, it looks like a doozie. I've never made crepes but their on my bucket list. Beautiful pics.

Michelle, you can make a carrot cake in a bundt pan, I have. Have fun at the IHop. Hopefully you'll have all of your questions answered. It sounds like a very exciting trip.

Sorry that your not sleeping well Joce. It really drags you down. I'm sure that you will find something great for dinner.

I find children like that tiresome Laurie. I had a young girl like that when I was Brown Owl and she drove me nuts. WOW, that's quite the mistake and thankfully is had nothing to do with Becca. The person that was responsible must have felt horrid as would the patient.

I haven't anything planted Karen but I did buy a yellow begonia. I would love some rhubarb and I have lavender in the garden. Are you going to make tea with the mint?

The humidity is worse today than it was yesterday, gross. Hopefully the storm won't go through while I'm making dinner which is Chicken Cacciatore and a Greek salad. I know, strange meal for a hot day but I'm craving carbs.

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone.

I just use a fry pan to make the crepes Michelle. It's SO easy! Glad you liked the chicken lettuce wraps! The Chocolate glazed Bundt cake will be a sure winner for the cake sale!

LOVE your crepe recipe Joce. That's a shame you don't sleep well Joce and that they can't really do any more for you. Thankfully I got a nice sleep last night so am grateful to the powers that be.

Good luck to Rachel getting this new position at the pre-school Laurie. Perhaps Becca (or you) should speak with whoever is overseeing the co-ops. Becca has enough on her plate without having to work additional hours. Does she get any compensation for the extra time she puts in? Oh goodness at the person being told they have cancer when they didn't. Oh my goodness.

Wow on Wayne waking up 11 times in one night and not remembering. Do take care in the sun Karen. It'll zap a person that's for sure. Nice that you got all your things planted.

I just grabbed the above photos of the tulip festival off the net but we drove along Dow's Lake today and it looks just like that. :) TONS of people out.

Bren, we also drove right by Bowman's Grill today. Didn't it used to be "The New Dubrovnik". :) If I've asked that before please excuse. CRAFT. Your dinner sounds ah-mazing.

Had a yummie Sausage Egg McMuffin at McD's and the dental cleaning went well. My girlfriend had given us 4 free tickets to the Tulip Gallery at the Aberdeen Pavillion. As we were walking to it I saw another couple that looked like they were destined for the same place so I asked them if they'd like two free tickets. LOL. They were all happy. They said "First the Sens win the Game last night and now we get given free tickets to the Tulip Gallery". :) I'd have felt a little ripped off if I had had to pay the $15/each admission to get in because there really wasn't a lot going on. Some paintings and photographs of tulips, some center pieces made with tulips. One guy playing guitar on a stage, a couple of food trucks and a small craft area. I did buy a super cute bird feeder. It's blown glass (red and white for the Canada Day 150 celebration). I think my chickadees will love it.

Had lunch at a Thai restaurant. I had the Yellow Curry chicken and Jim had a spicy seafood dish. It was okay. Not great. Home now and time to make crepes.

Good afternoon to all. Another scorcher here today. Sounds like a fun day Janet! Tulips are one of my favs. I've never made crepes either and really should try as hubs loves them. Oma always made them when she would visit from Germany. Will have to look into that. Might need some helpful tips from you guys though. Always been kinda of scared to make them, lol. Sounds silly, I know. Enjoy your meeting at Ihop Michelle. Yea, a meal break for you! Sleeping pills can be very addictive Joce and I am like you, Magnesium acts as a laxative for me. And that is the last thing I need as I already have problems in that area of life, lol. I don't think I would know how to act if I didn't walk around tired all the time. But I do take vitamin B and that helps me with energy. And a wee bite of chocolate mid afternoon doesn't hurt either, lol! Karen, I had a cat named Missy that would pretend to ignore me too when I would be away for more than a day. She would just give me that "Go to Hell" glare when I would return. My other cat, Rickie, on the other hand would come running as soon as I was home. Curious to see how Chloe does as I can't even take a shower without her crying at the door for me. Yes, I have spoiled her rotten! But she still is just a baby kitten and I guess to her I'm her momma. And yes, Cayce will take very good care of her. He's fallen quite in love with her. And it's just Sunday afternoon thru Monday afternoon. She will survive! Sounds like Rachel will have the job Laurie. And hope Becca gets her hours worked out. Chicken Cacciatore sounds delightful. Haven't had that in a very long time. Good luck with the storm coming.

Not sure what's for dinner here yet. Boys have a softball game and will need to be there by 6:00 and they all usually go for pizza afterward at CiCi's Pizza. Don't know if anyone is familiar but they have pretty good pizza and all kinds of games to play. Definately a "younger person" hang out so hubs and I avoid it like the plague, lol! Maybe hubs and I will just order a pizza ourselves. Or, I think I do have a meatlovers one in the freezer. Could just make that I guess. Would love a homemade one but I know I don't have everything I would need.

Enjoy the rest of the day all!

Joce's recipe is spot on Kimmer. You'll feel like a fancy French chef in your own kitchen flipping these babies. :) Pizza sounds great.

I hear Thunder. Better go cover up the BBQ.
