Toasted Western Thursday

  • chuckieb 7 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! It's another chilly morning here in the Ottawa Valley. -14C/6F.

I made myself a Toasted Western for breakfast. Jim didn't feel like having that so he tried his hand at making a Breakfast Tortilla (which I don't care for). But he wasn't pleased with his result as he scrambled his egg and cooked it along with some onion, tomato and peppers and after the fact he realized he probably should have scrambled the egg on its own and left the veggies raw and tossed them in. Next time.

No plans for today really. We're supposed to Skype with Benjamin this morning which will be nice. Haven't really talked with him much for about a month. I need to run over to the library to return a book and pick another one up. There's a Sens Game on this evening.

    That's about it.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Morning Janet!! A toasted western sounds yummy, that's too bad though that Jim didn't care for his breakfast, he should have just gone with what you were making lol. Enjoy your chat with Benjamin and go Sen's!

Don't have too much to do today, got my workout in and I need to run one errand that I forgot about yesterday. Made BBQ chicken last night amd it was delicious! Made a homemade BBQ sauce that I basted the chicken with and Michael said it was the best BBQ sauce I have ever made. Love that compliment 😁😁

Dinner is something with Italian sausage, probably a soup or something. Bri's got a game so its gotta be quick. Wishing everyone a great day!!

I'd die for some BBQ chicken with homemade sauce Michelle. Any leftovers? LOL! Soup with Italian sausage also sounds tempting. Good Luck to Bri at her game.

    Good Morning!
I love Toasted Westerns, Janet. Too bad Jim's breakfast didn't turn out well for him. Speaking of breakfasts I am delighted MacDonald's has an all day breakfast here now. I hope you have a good Skype with Ben this morning. GO SENS GO!

How is Caiden's eye this morning, Michelle? Isn't it nice when you get a nice compliment like that? It makes all your work seem worthwhile. I hope you get all your errands done so you can get ready for Bri's game.

Scary to hear about some of the things that happen in homes for seniors. I remember when Den's parents were in a home nothing happened to them thank heavens but this one woman who sat out in the hall across from the nurse's station in the home would yell out "Diablo" "Diablo" all the time and Den figured out why. It was b/c they had a picture up on the wall behind the desk of a hockey goalie with his scary mask on. Obviously, the poor woman couldn't speak English to tell them what was bothering her. Poor soul:( Dinner will be leftover stew over mashed from last night. Neither of us likes dumplings, with our stew Bren.

    Wishing everyone a pleasant day!

    Hi.
We had cinnamon rolls for breakfast, Janet. But toasted Westerns do sound good! Enjoy your Skype! It is supposed to hit somewhere around 60 F here -- the temperature "gonna be" varies depending on the latest weather forecast.

Hey Joce! Seems like the folks at the nursing home could have removed the picture and save the woman a little grief. Our friend who visited carries a doll around and sometimes she is aware it is a doll, other times she treats it as a child. We had them relocate it to the sun room when she was here because I could just see Mauser pouncing on it or Fritz deciding to chew it. She seemed to understand and was quite protective of it.

BBQ chicken sounds great, Michelle. Have fun at Bri's game. How is Caiden's eye? If it scars, you could always tell him that the girls will admire a rugged, handsome fellow with battle scars. The little girl who hit him seems to have some serious issues, for sure.

I just brought GS up and he is "helping" outside. Not that he is enthusiastic about it, but he will be paid slave wages for his help. Ha ha! Putting together bolts and screws does not constitute hard work. But he has to learn that you work for a living and / or to get the extras in life.

Otherwise, I have to go out to weed more of the garden. Then come back in to fix sandwiches for lunch. Maybe grilled cheese and tomato soup, pb&j for GS if he doesn't "like" whatever I fix. Have had a craving for Mac 'N Cheese ---- maybe----.

    Good Afternoon Everyone!

Had to get up early today and out the house to take DH to get bloodwork. He understood last night and then when this morning came it was an argument but he went. It'll be interesting to see the results as the man just won't drink water or other liquids for that matter. He'll have coffee and juice at breakfast, a glass of sweetened ice tea with lunch and again for dinner and that's it. Not ideal but I can't put a funnel in his mouth and force it. After we stopped for breakfast.
It's cloudy and overcast here today and scattered rain is expected but where it scatters nobody knows. I plan on grilling the some of the halibut I bought yesterday.

Hope you have a great skype session with Benj Janet and enjoy the game tonight.

Yum on the bbq chix Michelle. Is the sauce one you always make that just turned out better than normal or did you throw it together?

Stew over mashed potatoes sounds great Joce!

Nothing wrong with work/chores for GS Karen. So many kids today grow up without having chores and IMO it's not a good thing. Chores within reason teaches them about life. Mac and Cheese sounds good. My mom use to put stewed tomatoes on top of hers and I would always pick around them.

You are very right you have to learn to work, Karen and sadly these days some of the younger people don't have much work ethics anymore or take pride in what they do. Den was talking about a young teenager working at a cash the other day and all she could talk about was she had to work on Saturday and she was upset b/c she would be missing a party. Den was betting that she would call in sick or quit the way she was acting.

A Toasted Western, Linda is made out of eggs, ham and a bit of onion mixed up like an omelette and then put on buttered toast. I think it may be a Canadian thing possibly? Glad to hear you DH did very well doing exercises yesterday. Tell him to keep up the good work.

I Googled Toasted Western Recipes, Linda and they seem to all say add green peppers to it but I don't think I would care for that.

Aaaahhh, OK. We have it here too except they are called Western Omelettes. It was the "toasted" part that threw me. Thanks for the explanation. Now I know for sure.

Jim and I join you in the "All Day McDonald's Breakfast" happiness Joce! It's awesome and I think it is a wise business decision for them. I'm not a stew dumpling person myself. I think it's the texture.

Oooooo on Cinnamon rolls for breakfast Karen. I would LOVE that. :) Also envy you getting to be out in your garden and then having tomato soup and grilled cheese for lunch. And I'd like Mac 'n cheese as well. :)

That is unfortunate your DH doesn't drink more liquids Linda. Has he always been like that? NICE on grilled Halibut.

Jim likes green peppers in his westerns but I don't. A lot of places call the same sandwich a "Denver".

Jim and I talked with Benjamin for over two hours on Skype which was lovely.

    Hi everyone.

Here we have Western omelets with onion, pepper, tomato, ham, cheese in them. I like the veggies for sure. It is one I usually get. Often the restaurants will feature veggie omelets - onion, tomato, peppers, with cheese on outside.

GS drove the riding mower (NOT engaged for mowing) all over, pulling the little trailer and loading it with fallen branches and sticks that Fritz carried home on his walks. He even backed it into the barn. He is feeling like hot stuff. He would stop, pick up sticks, get back in and ride to the next spot. He could drive the Gator but I had shown him the sticker that said drivers must be 16 or older and have a license, which he was not appreciative of hearing. He was eying the four wheeler - no way Jose' - it is adult size and I don't even care to drive it. They are not the safest vehicle on the farm.

It is Spring and the ticks are waking up hungry. Fritz will get his anti flea-tick pill soon, and the cats need their anti-critter drops. All cats are inside except, of course, A.C. The others didn't like the wind or the noise from the riding mower. Mauser lasted 5 seconds. Mell made it for half a minute. Trouble stayed on the porch about ten minutes then wanted inside ASAP. A.C. will have to rounded up shortly. He is relatively safe because Geezer avoids noise and stays inside the barn when the Gator or tractor is running.

Good afternoon all. Thanks for asking that question about a toasted western Linda, lol. I have seen you post that before Janet and have meant to ask! We had bacon and sliced tomatoes for breakfast here today. Kind of like the good for meets the bad for you, lol. On a mission to use up my expensive tomatoes, lol! Which, by the way, may I say "suck"! Very mealy and the flavor not nearly as delightful as the regular slicing ones I get at the grocery. They smell good and look wonderfully red but that's about it! So back to beating myself up for number one, not paying attention, and number two, should have left them at the checkout, lol! Oh well, lesson learned. Kind of fun to talk about what we have for breakfast as well as dinner! BBQ Chicken sounds awesome. Gonna have to short list that too. Haven't had it in a while. Fun on the riding lawn mower!

Well with the pizza talk from yesterday I have a craving now. Going to order one though as I don't have all I would need to make one. And it's been a long day and honestly won't break my heart to not cook tonight.

Enjoy the rest of the day all!

That's nice that your GS had fun riding the mower Karen. Ugh on the ticks.

LOLOL. Oh dear on the expensive tomatoes sucking Kimmer. That's a shame. What kind of pizza do you like? My fave is Hawaiian but I like all kinds. (Although the more meat the better)

Tomatoes always seem to be mealy unless you are fortunate to get them fresh. Grocery stores always put them under refrigeration while waiting to stock the bins and that turns them. I tried planting tomatoes here but my plants didn't do well with all the rain and because I plant in pots and keep the pots in the screened in lanai the bigger bugs can't get at the microscopic bugs and the microscopic bugs did them in too. Planting outside the lanai is not an option.
In that it was threatening rain I seasoned and baked the halibut filets and drizzled a lemon and white wine sauce over them. They came out pretty darn good too. I'd make it again. Made rice and snow peas with carrots for sides.

That's a shame you can't grow tomatoes there Linda. :( Your halibut sounds lovely.

I forgot to say what I made for dinner. Shake n' bake chicken with shake' n' bake potato balls and spinach. Cuddled up on the couch watching the Hockey game. Busy day tomorrow. Night all.

Took GS to Arby's for supper after swimming. He was sunburned bec no one remembered sun screen. I had him put lavender oil on his face and arms, the good, Young Living brand. He drank lots of water, which is also helpful for sun burns.

Linda, if you can put diatomaceous earth around the plant, it will deter bugs and kill some. Get the stuff from health food stores, rather than any old garden supply place. Fleas etc. die from the soil contact. I have put Savin dust on tomatoes, just have rinse it off when you pick them. The 5% ratio is good.

Boo on the bad tomatoes, Kimmer.

I would love to be curled up,on the couch right now instead of waiting outside daughter's work, Janet. However. Wayne and GS are both asleep in the car. Wayne always growls that he has trouble sleeping in the drivers seat, but he was out ten seconds after closing his eyes.

    Have a nice evening.
