Toiling on Tuesday.....

Good Morning Everyone! It's supposed to be sunny this morning but perhaps rain this afternoon. My plans are to get out in the garden right after breakfast and try get the rest of the dead leaves cleared from the rest of my flower beds around the house. We'll see how far I get before rain drops deter me.

I also want to do up a batch of chicken stock today.

No clue yet what to make for dinner.

I sent off a complaint to the City of Ottawa Bylaw Department regarding the neighbour's dog on our property from Sunday. I feel better for having done something.

Pic below those of you on Facebook will have seen already, but I thought others may get a chuckle who aren't on Facebook. It was taken at our "Afternoon Tea" yesterday. One of my girlfriends makes all manner of crocheted creatures and she made us hedgehogs. Aren't they adorable.

Wishing everyone a great day. The cardinal who is banging it's head on our windows fighting it's reflection is DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!

Good morning Janet! Cute hedgehogs :) What a silly cardinal, can you bang on the window to scare it away or is it too fascinated with itself? Good for you on writing a letter and filing a complaint! When we lived in Red Deer AB and in Nanaimo BC you can't have loud barking dogs left outside for the day either as it's considered a "noise nuisance". You have to have them under control at all times. My dogs bark at people walking by if they're outside, very annoying, but I wrangle them up at the first sound of barking. We complained to the city in Red Deer because they left they're dog outside all day and it would bark for hours on end. The young guys would go to the bar and leave their dog out barking at 1-3am! After I wrote them a letter and later complained to bylaw I never heard it bark again. I hope you get the same results!

I woke up to 3cm of snow, and it's still snowing!! We usually get a little snow mid April, but this is not normal! I heard the snow might reach Ontario too, so be forewarned! ;) If you're lucky it will just turn to rain. I have to search the freezer for dinner, forgot to do that last night. Ackk, better go get the kids to school early as the roads are wet and slippery. I want to beat the morning traffic.

Have a great day everyone :)

Morning Shona! No, banging on the window doesn't help. I've also soaped the guest room window so it can't see it's reflection and taped six pieces of newspaper to the front windows for the same reason but the rain washes the soap off so it constantly needs to be reapplied and wherever I put newspaper, the cardinal seeks a new spot or a new window to fight with. This has been going on on a daily basis since November. My concern about the bylaws is that even though we technically are part of the City of Ottawa we do live in a rural location so I don't know if the bylaws are valid out here. We'll see. OH NO on the snow. I think my Mom and a lot of Northern Ontario are also receiving a significant snowfall at the moment and I even heard some of the highways are closed. Such a kick in the pants. I think we'll be okay here in Ottawa.

I've taken a rainbow trout out of the freezer to thaw for dinner. Think I'll make some baked rice and maybe some asparagus on the side.

I am glad you sent your complaint out, Janet. You are definitely a part of Ottawa now and the By-Laws should stand. After all, you are paying Ottawa taxes now! I totally agree with Kimmer and Bren, Greman Shepards should be well trained or they can be dangerous dogs. I think all dogs need to be trained for that matter. Glad you had a nice afternoon tea yesterday. Sorry to hear your Cardinal is driving you crazy. I wonder what else you can do to deter it? Your dinner sounds just lovely to me.
Ugh on the snow, Shona! Sending some of our nice Spring weather your way. I hope you beat the morning traffic getting the kids to school.
I am going to try and tackle some of my gardens to clean up today. I will see how much I am able to do. Dinner will be pork tenderloin something. I am not sure what I am going to do with it at the moment.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

He is just determined to bang on the window, lol, oh my!! We tried taping the windows with big X's to stop the birds from flying into our sliding glass door. It didn't help all that much so we hung some cheap bamboo beach mats outside the window. That definitely helps, but then you can't see outside. I wonder if you printed a picture of a predator bird and hung that on the window, Lol ;)

Hi Joce! Enjoy the gardening! :) Pork tenderloin sounds excellent!

I took some Italian turkey sausages out of the freezer. I'm not sure if we'll have it with rice, pasta or soup yet. The roads are pretty bad, and the school traffic congested. The major highway was also closed for an accident so everyone commuting to the city went through our little town. So I'll be staying home for sure! I bathed the dogs yesterday and started cutting Jersey's hair. I didn't finish, so I'll work on her more today. I have to finish her legs, she looks rather funny right now ;)

    Hello everyone!
    Those hedgehogs are adorable!
We don't have a problem with the banging but if we leave the windows open they are so loud. One sits right outside the bedroom window at starts at like 6am and converses back and forth with its friend. We used to have a ton of Robins but the hawk kept eating all the babies so they moved somewhere else and now we have Bluejays. Frank tried hitting the hawk with the pool net because it was so sad watching them cry and try to chase him but nothing you can do.
I came into work to a very nice surprise! i was going through my inbox and there was a Thank you card from my boss with a check for $250!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because we had a rough few weeks lol He doesn't realize what rough is for me at my last job
I have running tonight, coaching so I am not cooking it will be leftovers or cereal, whichever they choose.

Ugh on the dogs Janet. Ours were / are always kept quiet or inside. GS can be mean but it depends on the dog. I like to watch Dog Whisperer deal with what he terms red. zone dogs -- Rotties, pits etc. it all depends on the owners.

Got to go. Have to help with moving the RV. See you later.

Good luck with your gardening Joce. I managed to get one side of the house and the entire back length of the house cleaned out. The worst was the bed of day lilies underneath the living room window. I have to pull all the dead stuff off of them without damaging the new shoots coming up. I could do it in the fall I guess but they come out so much easier after they've rotted. Came in just before 3 for a bite of lunch and then we were getting some raindrops. Jim decided to head back out and continue but I don't have his fortitude and I decided I could use some quality computer time.

I don't think the picture of the predator bird would work Shona. I've researched it a fair amount and tried a lot of things. I was in a Bird store on the weekend that sells a aerosol can for $22.99. You're supposed to spray it on the outside of the window and then the bird can't see it's reflection. Like the soap idea only neater. I didn't buy it but I might yet. We have a similar problem with our wild turkeys banging on the basement windows. Right now because it's mating season I have things sitting in front to obstruct their view, a giant metal pumpkin, an adirondack chair and ottoman, a cedar bench, etc. Silly birds. I vote for soup. :)

I can picture Frank trying to hit the hawk with the pool net Laurie. LOL. Funny. What a nice place you are working at. It's so important and so good for morale when a boss recognizes things like that. Good for you and a pat on the back to your boss.

Had a nice Skype call with Benjamin this morning. Sure miss him.

Joce I see you've seen that new 'recipe' with the ad for escorts. Refresh my memory...is there a way to flag that? And....is flagging things still working in that they get removed or no?

Hello to all. Good you sent in a complaint Janet. Hope something gets done about it. I love cardinals but have to say that would drive me nuts!! Yipes on the snow Shona, wow, it's almost May! Nice surprise Laurie! I saw that thing for the escorts. Not sure anyone is really here much anymore to monitor things.

Tis Tuesday and tis the glorious cheese night. No, I never get tired of it, lol! Will make the boys Italian hoagies with some chips on the side. One of their favs. Will also make a little fruit plate for them. Have some apples and grapes that need used up. Seems now on Tuesdays they enjoy the different sammiches I come up with for them. Makes it easy as no extra cooking is involved. Although with the Italian hoagies, I do sometimes pop them under the broiler just for a few seconds to crust up the bread and melt the cheese. Will see if that's how they want it.

    Hope all enjoy the evening!

Hi Joce, Kimmer, Shona, Laurie, and, again, Janet.

We have a red tail hawk that hangs around during the Springtime. I was not happy since they are an endangered species so you are not supposed to shoot them, even if they take your chickens or small pets.

Lowes Store had a recording of an owl in their outdoor garden center, to keep customers from having to dodge the droppings. The birds would take off as soon as they heard it. It might annoy he neighbors a bit, though.

Reference the escort service recipe....aargh! No wonder people have left GR. I really enjoy O.D.D. And the variety of backgrounds in the group. Hoping it can be salvaged and such problems removed.

The weather forecast is for rain and storms the next four days, expecting 5.6 inches of rain by Sunday.

I won't be around much until next Tuesday but will try to read the posts. Have a nice day. See you later.

    TY

We may be driving thru hail, wind, heavy rain until we finally arrive. Going with a group called the Mark Twain Good Sams. We have met with them another time and had a fun time. Hoping the area we are staying in is not on a flood plain --- not cool.

Good luck with the cardinal. Daughter is threateng to shoot the robin that attacks her car. I informed her it was illegal to shoot guns in town and I would not spring for her bail. She was not impressed.....no sense of humor.

We are impatiently for her to get off work, GS is sleeping in back seat after swimming practice wore him out.

Have a good whatever time is left inthe day. See you later.
