Tree Felling Friday!

  • chuckieb 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! I just finished my first cup of coffee. The temperature went a lot lower overnight and it's currently 9C/48F. The majority of you guys would be in mittens! :)

Shona....how are you doing gf? Haven't heard from you in a bit. You'd mentioned wanting to put in some raspberry canes. The idea appeals to me but all those prickles don't plus I'm sure I'd be battling the birds for domination.

We have a guy coming over this morning to take down three dead ash trees. He's supposed to be here for 8:30. Jim will go oversee him. I'm going to do my workout and then I would like to do a big house cleaning so the place is nice when we get back. We're heading to Montreal tomorrow. We've been invited to a 50th Anniversary Party so it should be a lot of fun.

Still have to check the freezer and make sure I have chicken pieces but I think I'd like to make
    Pickle Brined Chicken
for dinner this evening, and again if I have the proper ingredients I'll make
    Beet Salad With Tarragon Dressing
    on the side.

I'd like to make a batch of cookies or something to bring to Montreal with us so still have to plan what and I know I only have one egg in the fridge which Jim will want for breakfast so I do have to make a run to the store at some point.

IF I am wildly ambitious and energetic I'd love to make Linda's
    Mia Cucina Italian Wedding Soup
for lunch. It'd be perfect for a day like today. Also sending good vibes to Linda as I believe you has some stuff to deal with today with your DH and I hope your visit went okay last night as well.

Bren, how did the move go for your MIL?

Pic below of a few of my "Canada Day 150 Tulips". I bought them from Home Hardware last fall to commemorate Canada's 150th Anniversary this year. They were supposed to come up red and white but they've come up red and yellow. Still pretty but it is disappointing. I've seen news reports online of this happening and some people's tulips have come up orange. I'm curious to see what or if HH will do anything about it.

    Wishing everyone a fun Friday!

Morning Janet!! I would definitely be in mittens in 48 degrees lol. Fun on the 50th anniversary party! I so need to make that beet salad one day for lunch..it looks so delicious! Beautiful tulips, even if not the right color :)

At the gym..I managed to get here everyday this week, yay!! I'm determined to get into bathing suit ready body for Costa Rica since we will be in one A LOT.

Have to make the cake for the auction today and run and get Caiden's class some summer toys for a big basket that gets made up for each kid on the last day of school.

Tonight we have 2 softball games to start off this weekend's District tournament. Not sure what to do about dinner. We have to be at the fields at 5 and it's a 35 min. Drive. I guess eat ballpark food lol. Have a great day everyone!!

Good luck with your house cleaning, Janet and I hope the trees come down safely. Too bad your tulips weren't red and white for our 150th but they are still pretty. Very nice being invited to the 50th Anniversary Party in Montreal. Your dinner sounds lovely.

Good for you getting to the gym every day this week, Michelle! Good luck making the cake and then shopping for toys. I hope the Tournaments goes well.

Hoping all goes well today, Linda. Sending only the best vibes to you today. HUGS)))

We have a Sens game on tonight which we are looking forward to watching. Den will have his rib eye steak with oven fries and I am not sure what I am having yet.
    GO SENS GO!

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Strange on the tulip color mixup! Wonder what mixup occurred? And where? A friend of ours bought two apple trees at WalMart and when they bloomed they were actually pears! He brings some to church and jokes that anyone can have some apples if they want. My irises came up blue, then all of a sudden were yellow! But I guess the yellow ones came up later?

There are some eggless cookie recipes on GR and Maybe All Recipes. Have no idea how they are.

Planted tomatoes and peppers and a stevia plant in the garden this morning. Two lavenders in the flower bed, ? If they come up next year. Have a basil to pot yet. And decide what else to put in the garden.

You sure have a busy day, Michelle. The kids should enjoy ballpark food! Good luck on the bathing suit body sculpting for your Costa Rica trip.It sounds like fun.

Thinking of you, Linda. Hope all goes well.

    Hi to everyone!

Go you at the gym everyday Michelle. How nice the kids get a basket full of toys for the end of the school year. I'd have LOVED that as a kid. I think Ballpark food will work just fine. Good luck at the tournament.

Hi Joce! I have some butterflies in my stomach already over the game tonight!!!!

I'm not sure what happened with the tulip bulbs exactly Karen. I just heard from my girlfriend who owns at Home Hardware store downtown and she says that Head Office says the yellow will fade to white. Weird. I've seen red and white tulips before from the onset so I'm not quite sure what it's all about or why it's tricky. LOL @ your friend buying apple trees which turned out to be pear. That would be a surprise alright! Nice on all your planting.

Two trees down and one to go. The first two went like magic and the guy brought them right down in the drive way nary touching any other tree or the cedar rail fence or anything. Jim's been out there the whole time cutting up and hauling all the stuff away in to the front yard. LOTS of action.

I got the soup made as I figured Jim would appreciate a good lunch. Have to start the house cleaning now.

Hi Janet :) That's great you have someone felling trees for you! We've been doing that ourselves and the cleanup has been ongoing. Back home on the Island we have many, many wild blackberries so I am very use to thorns! Lol ;) I could never grow raspberries there because we never got enough sun. I see raspberries everywhere here, so I am excited to grow them. They have smaller and far less thorns then the blackberries. I'm going to grow them along my fence in tomato cages to start. The birds don't seem to bother them I am told, maybe because of the thorns? I have plenty of Bird-Cherry trees for them (they have little black cherries the birds love) as well as Nanking cherry bushes and Choke-Cherry trees. So here's hoping they leave the raspberries alone! ;) Wow, such a bummer about the tulips! When they first came out I thought they might come out pink, never thought it might be yellow or orange. yikes! I wonder if HH is going to be in big trouble? Have a wonderful trip to Montreal!!

Hi Michelle, I'm jealous your kids will be out of school soon! We're in until June 29th, just torture! lol ;) Busy day for you again, but good for you on making time for the gym. Having a bathing suit goal is a great motivator!

Hi Joce, enjoy the game tonight! :)

Hi Karen, good luck with your gardening!

TGIF I say! What a week. Just a lot of appt's and driving from town to town here and there. The kids have an extra long weekend, they go back to school on Tues. Sophia has a play date this afternoon then I'll head to town again and do some grocery shopping and figure out dinner.
I go to physio twice a week now. They are trying to loosen my tight shoulder and neck muscles, but it's a slow process since I've been extremely tense for years! I have to plenty of stretching to do at home and nerve exercises for my left side that is numb. The new couch has helped a lot with my posture, now I just need to find a firmer bed.

ATTN Downton Abbey Fans or PBS fans! Tune your tv to record Dark Angel on PBS this Sunday. Joanne Froggatt (Anna from D-Abby) is starring in a dark drama based on a real life Victorian serial killer Mary Ann Cotton. David Wilson wrote the book it's based on, he's a famous Criminologist in the UK. I went to a seminar of his back in 2000 when I was in Doncaster England for my Criminology studies.
I'm not sure how dark the show will be, I don't think Masterpiece airs any "horror" type shows, so I can't see them showing much violence.... it's probably more eerie. I'm looking forward to it, especially the criminologist in me! ;)

    Have a great Friday everyone!

Lol @ the guy who says they can have apples b/c he got pear trees instead, Karen. Wow, you have been doing quite a lot of planting. I meant to mention the other day that Basil likes full sun and it is not a perennial.
Glad to hear the trees are coming down so well. You have butterflies in your stomach Lol now I am getting superstitious you haven't said GO SENS GO! at all today.

Well you let me know once you get those raspberry canes going Shona and if the birds don't get yours I very well may give them a go. I'd like to grow some berry shrubs/trees as well that would attract the birds. I should look into it. A firm bed is so important. Do look into it. Jim and I got a good one years back but it's time to change the mattress again now. Well isn't that cool that you went to a seminar of a famous Criminologist. I'll try PVR that program. Thanks for the heads up.

Yay on the smooth tree felling! Lots of firewood!

I saw some raspberries the other day, Joce, will have to consider planting some when he find space. We also have wild blackberries and suffer the thorns to pick them.

Guys are out walking Fritz. Had ham pasta salad and pickled beets for lunch. Storms expected later this evening and tonight. Woke up last night / this morning to a full blown storm....tornadoes in Western MO but not by us. Fritz was upset and tried to hide. Mel slunk off to hide.

Fritz is acting strange, shaking and scared acting, but there is no thunder that we hear. Probably need to invest in a thunder shirt! Crazy dog even missed the turtle by the front porch this morning.

    Best go. See you later.

Oh dear at the storm Karen. Glad it's past and Fritz can go for a walk. Tina had good success with her dogs and their thunder shirts.

Housework and lunch all done. Gonna head off to do a few errands.

Have decided to BBQ the chicken pieces instead just because it's so nice and sunny out. Hopefully I don't get eaten alive my mosquitoes though.

Thanks, Janet. We weren't sure about the time on Sunday.

Dogs can hear/scene storms miles away, Karen. I remember when we had Hoover he would pace around and try to get me to go to the basement and we didn't get a storm until many hours passed. Poor wee fella. I have heard many people say those thunder shirts work well.

Third tree is down. Jim's just going to go empty the trailer and unhitch it so I can take the car in to town. Not going to do the beet salad either. Have some tomatoes that need using up so will do tomato slices and basil with a drizzle of some nice olive oil over top.
What a productive day it has been!

Good afternoon to all. It's awfully warm here. Another 95F day. I think it was just about everyday this week. Not much breeze either. Need to check the forecast for St. Augustine. It was actually quite cooler on that side the last time we went.

Glad the tree felling went well Janet. Will Jim be chopping that up for next winter as well? We grew up with wild berries in Michigan. Us kids would go out and eat them right off the plant. Come home with red smeared all over our hands and faces. Delightful memory. I remember Tina talking about the thunder shirts. Might be worth the investment Karen! We had a dog years and years ago that was terrified of storms. And he was a large dog. He would always try to hide by sticking his head under the bed. The rest of his body wouldn't fit but I guess he thought he was hiding, lol. He did go thru a couple of tornados with us. Because we live in Florida with no basements or cellars we have to go to an interior room with no windows. Our safe place was my walk in closet in my bedroom and every time we would say, "Take cover Toby" he would run to that closet. Sometimes he would already be in there. He knew it was coming. Fortunately, we don't see too many tornados here in our area. Hurricanes are another story but at least we have days to prepare for that.

Feeling accomplished today as of at 3:00 on Friday the work week was done! Now on to the weekend! Laughed so hard at Chloe earlier. I got her a new toy the other day when I went to pick up her food. It's an orange spool with cord wrapped around it so it's easy to grab and tote. It's cat nip infused. She's old enough now to be able to enjoy a cocktail too, lol. Anyway, she was playing with that and then suddenly started doing her prancy dance all over the room. Back arched, ears back, hopping on tip toes not running and tail poofed. She went on forever doing that! Then took a well deserved nap, lol. I needed a nap after just watching her. I had forgotten how much fun little kittens are in their play.

Not sure, again, what's for dinner. Boys are going to Dad's tonight so might just go out and grab a bite. Or get some take out. Pretty much used up all my appy kind of stuff. Need to go to the grocery tomorrow but will probably just get what the boys might need.

Enjoy the rest of the day all!

We are ordering curb service from https://www.bjsrestaurants.com/menu It's literally 3 minutes from our house. Going with the Best Beginnings Appetizer Combo with a Clam Chowder for hubs and House Caesar Salad for me. Have had their Avacado Egg Rolls and they are amazing! And I'm not even that big of an avacado fan. So ya, that be it me thinks! Neither one of us felt like cooking tonight and it is so blessed hot out, really didn't want to heat up the kitchen even with the AC on!

Sleep Cool and Comfy Sweet All...............as always..............

Survived the pre-long weekend shopping crowds! Pheew!
I'm going to make garlicky bone-in pork chops and creamy risotto with broccoli, peas and bell peppers.

Hopefully you don't miss Dark Angel Joce!
We have a thunder shirt for Roxy, it works great Karen. It has a spot on it for EO's or anxiety spray. I just use a couple drops of lavender EO to keep her calm during storms.
Awww, your kitten sounds like so much fun Kimmer!

My gosh, just had two birds hit the sliding glass door within seconds of each other! I'd better go and check on them and find something to block the glare!

Have a great evening everyone :)

3-2 Penguins which is a darned shame but I'm proud of our Sens. Jim couldn't handle the pressure and went to bed a while ago. He's a good fan when we're winning, not so much when we're not.

It was a productive day. Still have stuff going in the dryer. Getting chilly over night. Brought my plants in.
