Tripping out Thursday!

Good Morning Everyone! I'm all pumped this morning to head off on our jaunt to the Niagara region. I'm all packed but still need to make some egg salad sandwiches to bring along for lunch (HATE the fast food stops on the main Highway). Unfortunately it looks like we may be driving in rain. :(

I got my front flower beds all cleaned out yesterday and they look wonderful. Lots of flowers coming up. Had fun chatting with the birds, chipmunks, deer and squirrels.

We are staying over this evening in Etobicoke, near Toronto at my cousin's. I'm going to meet a new cousin for the very first time tonight as well who she has invited to dinner. I'm very pumped. (He may bring some old family photos too!)

Your beef stroganoff and spinach salad last night sounded great Karen!

And your steak, baked potato and corn on the cob dinner did as well Michelle!

I made salmon patties with Lori's homemade tartar sauce and spinach on the side last night for dinner. It was yummy.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning All!

Travel safe Janet and have a great time.

Nothing much going on here. It's a nice bright sunny day today after the rainy day yesterday. Kenpo class was canceled today because our teacher isn't feeling well. I feel like a school kid that's catching a break. Now I have a "free" day ... what to do, what to do?
Geek Squad guy coming tomorrow with a new computer to replace the new bad one.

Wishing our Canadian neighbors hope and the end of the wildfires they are battling and that everyone, everything comes out of it alive and safe.

Morning Linda. Enjoy your 'free day'! :) How many days a week do you do Kenpo? Crossing my fingers all will go quickly and smoothly tomorrow for you and the Geek Squad. It's impressive that there hasn't been any deaths associated with the Forest Fire in Fort McMurray.
    Heading off shortly. Bye all!

Morning!! Have fun on your trip Janet! I must have missed you talking about it? Is it a short trip or a long trip?

Lol at catching a “free” day Linda :)

The steaks last night turned out good! Maybe a tad bit overcooked but I am just not the best griller of steaks. I am a master at grilling chicken though :) Going to wash the truck today and clean it out, which will be a long task, as I have not been able to clean it in forever because of the rain. Have a TON of leftovers so that will be dinner tonight. Wishing everyone a great day!!

Have a good safe trip, Janet! What fun meeting yet another cousin too!
Have an enjoyable free day, Linda.
Lol at not being able to clean your truck in forever, Michelle:) Is it even a month old yet?
Not sure what I am up to today. It looks sunny here but we are supposed to get rain? I would like to get out and clean up the garden some more. However, they are calling for better weather tomorrow and into the weekend. I don't have a clue what we are having for dinner.
    Wishing everyone a nice day!

Lol Joce, we've had it about 5 weeks I think? Haven't washed it in about 3 weeks cause it just won't stop raining!! It needs to be washed more than a normal persons car because of driving through the dirt at the ball fields constantly, about once a week, and I'm determined to keep up with it!

Uh-Oh, Janet is talking to the squirrels again! Should we be worried? LOL, just kidding...;) Wow, love how you guy's are meeting new family members. Safe travels!!

Enjoy your free day Linda, thanks for the prayers--it's so incredibly devastating what's happening. The fire fighters worse case scenario is happening, the wind hasn't died down and it's gotten much worse. Thankfully no reported deaths.

Hi Michelle! I'm the opposite, I can grill steak--but not chicken! ;)

Hi Joce, we're suppose to get rain too. But I am very thankful since it's was 30C the past two days, and it's very crisp-dry out there. But I'd be more happy if the wind blew the rain up North to put out the fires!

Thankfully I can turn off the fans and AC today. But it won't last long, we're back up to 30C by Sunday. There's a Province wide State-of-Emergency because of the fires. There's currently 49 fires burning, 7 of those are totally out of control and spreading South rapidly. 85,000 hectares are currently burning! We've come up with a family evacuation plan and have extra water, food and gas etc.. packed up in the garage, just in case. We're near a big lake, but on the other 3 sides are trees and grasslands. We only have one way in and out of here on one highway. But there's only 1200 people around here and not 88,000! It's a helpless feeling. People in Fort McMurray and many other towns around here are from all over Canada and North America in general. So many people here are from Ontario, Newfoundland, Quebec, many from the US, and Mexico all come here for work on the oil fields and in Agriculture. Fort Mac is the Hub of the oil industry, it effects us all. The trickle down effect.... Pete's job consists of fixing 90% of oil workers trucks. This is going to be felt everywhere by everyone in Alberta, and so on....just so devastating....

Hopefully we'll get the counter tops and upper cupboards in by then. I need my sink!!! Since it's cool, I suppose I can cook something today. Will have to go to the store-- I'm thinking pork chops. I'm going to get some paint and paint the upper walls before the cabinets go in. This might be my first time picking a colour vs making my own paint. I'm notorious for picking up the "oops" paint from the store and adding 4-5 different colours and making my own colour, lol!

    Have a great day everyone!

Have a great trip, Janet. It must be fun meeting a new cousin. Drive safe.

Michelle, I am not good at grilling steaks or chicken or much of anything. Wayne usually grills burgers, once in a while steaks. LOL at the dusty truck. I would have to scrub our vehicles every day to keep them any where near clean. Our road is super dusty esp. now with little rain.

Good luck with the new computer, Linda. Hoping the other one was a fluke.

I have clue about dinner either, Joce. I am not really hungry so nothing's reached out to grab me. Plus I got the wrong chicken from Schwanns so it is not the kind we like. They had a recall on some of their frozen veggies -- I think we already ate them -- ha ha!

Are you near the fires, Shona? I will Google hectares to translate into acres, although 85,000 sounds BIG regardless! Be careful. It is wise indeed to have a supply of food, gas, and water on hand in case. Meds, basic stuff like toothpaste, etc. are good to keep handy also. Let's hope you don't have to utilize them. It made the news here last night. Scary pictures! Love the "oops" paint -- we have done that also and never could duplicate the color.

Feeling better except for right after taking the antibiotics....hate taking them. I even made brownies for the guys after their hard work this morning.

Our back-of-the-house cat is exhibiting allergy symptoms. She pulled out a chunk of hIr and scratches a lot. No fleas, just itchy dry skin. We almost lost Mary a couple years back, hoping it does not get that bad this summer. Fritz is dozing on Wayne's chair, A.C. Is asleep on my lap. He is so fat he cuts off the circulation.

Take care everyone and have a good day.

Hi Karen, oh no on the kitty allergy's! Can they take a benydryl? We use to give that to Jersey because we thought she had outdoor allergy's (it turns out it was chicken though) But cats are so different then dogs. I hope she'll be ok. I don't like antibiotics either, do you have some probiotics? That usually makes me feel better, take it a few hours before or after the antibiotics.
I'm about 300 miles south west of the fire. No risk of it coming here because the winds are blowing south east. But we are in an extreme fire risk here, so we just want to be prepared. 85,000 hectares is over 220,000 acres. It has to be much bigger then that by now as it's ben growing all day.
I have to drive down a dusty dirt road when I take the kids to school, luckily my car is light tan---colour of dirt! Lol ;)

Glad you not in the fire area, Shona. Smart choice to be prepared just in case. The network news had more information and The Refugees group posting has been quite informative.

Cats are so difficult to medicate. Mary has been miserable before with severe allergies and we were very close to putting her down a few years ago. She is old and has somewhat of a mental problem, stemming from abuse from a previous owner.

I do eat Greek yoghurt (plain regular fat content) and add some grossly overpriced blueberries, drink cranberry juice, and so on. Am feeling better after starting antibiotics.

    Stay safe.
