Wednesday's Heat Wave

  • MissouriFarmWife 6 years ago
    Good morning.

It is a balmy 18 F outside. 23 degrees warmer than earlier this week.

Wayne is still miserable so I will drive to St. Robert sometime today and we will run errands. Need to pick up cold meds for him.

Electrician did not come to daughter's yesterday, she will contact the landlord again. They are welcome to stay with us if it gets too cold. The electricity is acting strange, breaker heated and she is without power in part of the house, the pipes froze under part of the house so she has no hot water in the kitchen. He Ned's to wrap the pipes under the house. I may tell her to board her dog and cat and come here at least overnight for a few days.

    Have a good day!

Glad your internet is back, Janet. As horrible and slow as ours is, it would still be a pain without it!

LOL @ the heat wave Karen!!! LOL! It's downright balmy here in the Ottawa Valley as well. -11C/12F when I woke up this morning. Sorry to hear Wayne is still under the weather. it really got him eh! I must have missed that your daughter was having problems with the electricity! Eeesh on the pipes under part of the house freezing. Do you have to worry about them bursting?

Am going to make Hot Turkey sandwiches for our dinner this evening. Both Jim and I want to go out for a jaunt today but we haven't decided where yet.

    Good Morning Everyone!

Too funny on your heat wave Karen. Enjoy it while it lasts, right. That stinks about your daughters electric especially when a contractor doesn't show. I wonder if the call was even made and not just an excuse from the landlord? Dress warm while out running errands and again, hoping Wayne feels better.

You got your internet back Janet!! Yeaaaa. I need to take down my little tree too but the last two days have been lazy ones for us. Hot turkey sandwiches are a favorite here.

North Florida got snow flurries! It's bone chilling damp and drizzly out this morning and temps after the rain moves thru will drop lower. Will go to the gym later this afternoon and too need to swing in the grocery store for a few things. Not sure what'll be for dinner yet. Most often when I plan something plans change.
LD looks spiffy ... his haircut is nice and I have a little t-shirt on him to keep him warm. Waiting to hear back from the vet regarding his bi-annual senior blood workup.

That's about it here for now ...

    Hi Janet.

Her house is quite old and they have discovered some shoddy construction. The landlord said their electrical setup was not safe and is getting an electrician to redo it.
If a cold spell hits we may have to get her with us for a few days.

Have fun at the gym Linda. Is your Farmer's Market still going?

Yikes Karen. That's scary! It's nice she has you guys as a back up.

Farmers Market is still going but interest has dwindled so it's every other Monday now. The vendors expect to make tons of money. A lot have pulled out and don't bother anymore and the ones that are left have prices no different than the grocery stores and it's turned many people off. Most everything the produce guy is selling isn't even organic. It's too bad because it could have been nice but greed is doing the vendors in.

Morning! Glad it warmed up for you some Karen. Poor Wayne! Hope he feels better. That sucks that your daughters electricity is out, I would definitely try and talk them into staying with you.

Yay Janet, your back!! Yum on hot turkey sandwiches, have fun today!

Cute on LD having a little T-shirt to keep him warm Linda :P Good luck with your errands today! Ugh on the FM, I would at least expect the produce guy to have mostly home grown or organic! I haven't been to our FM in forever. It is about 80% home grown BUT it is turning into such a carnival I hate to even go anymore.

Bri stayed over at Emma's last night, so it's just me and Caiden hanging out this morning while Michael sleeps. We went to the donut shop drive thru and I had a bacon taco and Caiden had his sprinkle donuts and donut holes :) I want to go spend my gift card today, but it is seriously so dang cold nothing sounds very appealing to leave the house for. I will probably go tomorrow lol. We have batting lessons tonight. Not sure what dinner is yet, something easy and quick though. Maybe a vegetarian pasta or something? I feel like we have been eating so much meat lately a break would be nice lol. Have a great day everyone!!

When it's cold eating veggies and fruits just doesn't seem "appetizing" Michelle. I too need get back on track ... thinking of making lentil vegetable soup here, at least it's warm, not meat, and will have vegetables. LOL! YUM on the bacon taco and too the donuts. Is the cold weather expected to continue or warm up?

That's a real shame about your Farmer's Market Linda. :( That being said, the prices of vegetables sold at my Farmer's Market in the summer months is always higher than what we would pay at the grocery store. But the produce in our grocery store has been trucked from the ends of the earth generally and the stuff sold at the Market is local. YUM on lentil vegetable soup! Love lentils!

I've never heard of a bacon taco Michelle but I'd totally be up for trying it. :) Hope batting lessons go well. Enjoy your day!

I've cleaned up the kitchen and had my shower. Am having a great Bird count day and even had a Pileated Woodpecker come to the suet feeder which is the first time this season! Jim cleaned out the pellet stove and in a bit we've decided to head to the Hardware store. We want to look at buying some doors for the basement rec room. We also need to buy a humidifier and I also want to look at drinking glasses. We'll go out for lunch. Jim is thinking of maybe heading to the Ashton Brew Pub.

Love the thread title, Karen:) Too bad your daughter is without electricity and water! Good, she has you as a backup place to go. Sorry to hear Wayne is still under the weather. I hope the cold meds help him.

Happy to hear your internet is back up and running, Janet. Nice on all the birds coming to your bird feeder. I love Pileated Woodpeckers. We used to get them here but since they have taken most of the woods away from behind our house sadly we aren't getting as much of the wildlife we used to get. Enjoy your lunch at the Ashton Brew Pub.

Bummer on your FM not being as good as it started out to be, Linda. It sounded quite awesome from the get-go:( I bet LD looks cute in his T-shirt.

I hope it warms up tomorrow so you feel like going out, Michelle.

Not much happening here today. Den has finished the freezer room except for putting everything back in there again. He is taking a much-needed break today. Not sure what is for dinner yet. Going to make grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch in a sec.

    Wishing Everyone a Great Day!

Hi Joce! Great that Den is all finished the freezer room and nice he took a 'Den Day'. :) Yum on Grilled cheese for lunch. I've been craving that myself lately.

Jim and I had a yummy lunch at the Pub. I had Bangers and Mashed and Jim had the Shepherd's Pie. We had no success at the Hardware store for glasses, doors or humidifiers and both of us felt the customer service was sorely lacking. We shall go to a different building supply centre soon to see if we get any better results there. The door will be for the entrance way of our rec room in the basement. The opening is 50" wide, too wide for a standard door to fit so we'll need to put french doors in. We're partial to wooden ones that we can stain and varnish and we'd also like clear bevelled glass panes in it so it will let light in that room from the other part of the basement as well.

Saw the eagle again down the road. Still haven't figured out what's drawing it but there must be a dead deer in the woods that we can't see from the car.

Had a most enjoyable hot tub when we got home. First one in a couple of weeks. It got up to -8C this afternoon. Gusty in open areas though.

    Hi again.
Hope you going some goodies to use your gift card, Michelle.
    French doors sound great, Joce.
    Hi again Linda!
Decided on calling the Siamese Traveler....it just seemed an appropriate name for him. He watched Wayne come in, from ten feet away this time. Slow progress! It took months for Geezer to get close. Wayne pretended not to notice him.

Ran errands. Tried Bulgogi House, it is under new owners. Miss the old ones.

    Have a nice evening!

Traveler is an appropriate name for the cat for sure Karen. A bit of a mouth full though. I'll shorten it to 'Trav'. :) I'll be so excited if he eventually becomes a house cat. :) So has the food quality at the Bulgogi changed then under the new owners?

At 8 p.m. Jim and I agreed we were both too full for Hot Turkey sandwiches so I'm in the midst of making a batch of Wonton soup. LOL. Jim ate a turkey drumstick as well. Lovely fire going but our Ottawa Senators are losing against Detroit. :( We suck this year.

Hello all. It took me days and days to finally tame my cat Rickie. He was born in the wild and was surely a "wild child"! But I did it after hours and hours one night (the whole night!) . I had food out for him and just waited and waited until he couldn't stand it anymore and had to eat, he had been watching for as long as I had been sitting there, lol. I then reached out very gingerly and pet is little head while he ate, then scratched his neck and then he was all mine! Lol! But, I was determined to make him mine! And he realized that it was ok and I was not a threat to him at all!

Been a busy day, which is good as business is picking back up. Had pork chops, baked mac n cheese and a salad for dinner tonight. Delightful!

Sleep Warm and Sweet All..................as always..................
