Wednesday's Tasks

  • mommyluvs2cook 7 years ago
Morning all!! I have a ton to do today to meet Briauna's requests lol! Yesterday I baked her some chocolate chip muffins (I taste tested one, SO GOOD) for her birthday breakfast in the morning. I'll light a candle in one for when she wakes up. Here is the link: http://www.food.com/recipe/chocolate-chip-muffins-177735
On my agenda is cookies, cupcakes and I would like to make her a cake as well, but not sure if it's needed since she already had a cake at her party and with cupcakes that she will be passing out tomorrow night at softball. I'm just not sure if she expecting one or not?
I still have tomorrow that I can make some of the stuff, so I'll divide it up between today and tomorrow. Have some errands to run today as well.

Below is from Bri's party. First pic. is them posing at the mall for one of their tasks, which was to get a selfie in front of the water fountain. Second pic. is her blowing out her candles, and third is of the girls eating their ice cream sundae's.

    Wishing everyone a great Wednesday!!

Good Morning Michelle! What a good Mom you are. The Chocolate chip muffins look fabulous and how cute to stick a candle in one for Bri's birthday breakfast tomorrow. I'm quite envious of all the baking you're going to do today. I love baking. Oh dear on your photos not loading. :(

More snow overnight here. Holy Kamoly! It's quite something.

Busy day ahead of me today. Going to do a workout before breakfast on the treadmill and then I have another appointment with my Kidney specialist after breakfast. Need to pick up some groceries on the way home, clean my floors, make a batch of fudge and prep the veggies for the salad tray for tomorrow's lunch, and make dinner. It's doable but I'll be pushing it. :)

    Going to make
    Tetrazzini
    for dinner this evening.

Jim and I were still so full from lunch yesterday that we ate the Shrimp with Avocado Creme and weren't hungry for anything else so I shall push the baked perogies to another night when we want an appy. I was disappointed in the shrimp appy. It was from a Cordon Bleu recipe book so I kind of expected good things. It was basically shrimp on top of guac and they didn't call for any salt or pepper so I found the guac a bit blah. Plus it's very hard to pick up guac with a limp shrimp. LOLOL. I won't bother doing that again.

Michelle B., I am very envious of you poking about Wellington. Had to laugh when you said "It is summer here but not all that warm with highs of only about 20". You know you've been in Fiji for a while (and not Canada) when you say that. LOLOLOL.

There was a unique item on the menu at the Pub yesterday. "Elk Corndog with Beet Kraut and Maple Mustard". Neat eh?

Love the pics, Michelle. They look like they are having a good time for sure! Definitely need to see the crafty items, although I have NO craft skills at all, love to see what can be done.

Elk sounds good, Janet, and I like sauerkraut! But corn dogs? Hmmm. Maple mustard---sweet and savory...sounds intriguing. Too bad the shrimp and avocado didn't turn out. Could it be tweaked? Make a shrimp-avocado dip with ??? Celery sticks or ??? as dippers?

Wayne won't touch avocado ....resident Mr. Picky Eater! Ha ha.

Today I have start gatting ready for our company this weekend. Dementia is a horrible thing and I admire him for care giving.

GS was happy yesterday. We took him to Bandanas. The one in Rolla is not as good as some others, but he was impressed. I thought the pork was too fatty! I like their BBQ baked beans, though, they have a smoky taste that is so good.

Temp will be in the 40 F's today. No rain until Monday, maybe.

Good luck with all the things you have to do today, Michelle. The candle on the cupcake for breakfast is a great idea. A very nice way to start her birthday!

Sounds like you are going to have a very busy day as well, Janet. Good luck with your kidney specialist appointment today.

The snow is very pretty however enough already! Den is waiting for the plough to go by before he starts cleaning the laneway and the pathway to the back of the house again. All he seems to be doing while he is off is going to appointments or working shovelling snow. It would be nice if he could at least have a few days off to relax. He has made up a spreadsheet for how many times he has had to shovel this year and the amount of snow we have received to date this year we are way over last year and so far it is 7Ft of snow! We have to be very careful backing out of our driveway b/c of the snow banks we can't see if anyone is coming either way! I made the stuffed strawberries yesterday and they are quite tasty but a devil to do! The strawberries were all different shapes and sizes not the best for presentation like a lot of double ones. I did take a pick and will review in IMI 11, later on, today if I get a chance.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

SP Karen, You would never see Den touch avocado anything either! Glad you GS was impressed with Bandanas. Yes, dementia is a terrible thing! Very nice of you to give him a change or a bit of a brake.

Hi Joce. Your description of this year's snow fall reminded me of the winters we had in Michigan. The huge drifts / snowbanks at the end of the drive really blocked the view.

The commissary had chocolate covered strawberries, with nuts or sprinkles or whatever. They were intriguing. Stuffing them? Sounds yummy but work intensive. I should have picked up some chips but didn't. Maybe a quick run to get fresh bread on Friday.

    Have a nice day.

hey guys, typing with one hand so I have to make it short. I was in the hospital and I'm still on morphine. pete is home taking care of me. my shoulder is gone, literally. xray shows no sign of rotator cuff and I'm on my last tendon, lot's af calcium deposits's on my tendon which is causing sever agony. even the morphine drip wasn't enough. but they sent me home today, pete is getting my prescription pain killers and anti-flamm's right now. I can't drive or bend down or even sit with my back against anything for too long, painful..i'm in the sling which Janet knows is a pain in the butt! I have to stay in it for 2 weeks and ice it 4 times a day. then follow up with doc and get another imaging to see if surgery or steroid shots are best. she thinks steroid shots might not be good since they can blow up a tendon, and if that happens i'll have nothing holding my arm on..anyways, we'll wait and see. so I might not be here for awhile, but i'll try and check in now and then.

Hi Karen! Certainly the Avocado Creme could be tweaked and it could be presented differently (eg. in those little ceramic appy spoons or perhaps in a nacho scoop) but it wasn't good enough to bother tweaking. There are SO many appy recipes out there. You know what I mean. :) Glad you had a nice meal out at Bandaras.

Holy Smokes on 7 ft. of snow Joce but it doesn't surprise me. Our snow plow STILL hasn't shown up and we almost got stuck in the lane way heading out for my appointment. The roads were not good and SO much road spray. Don't even get me talking about the state of the parking lots! Still craving some of your stuffed strawberries. Do you use a piping bag to stuff them?

OH SHONA! Holy Smokes. That's horrible. Your rotator cuff is gone? How does that happen? And what caused you to go in? Did you just get this severe pain all of a sudden? So crazy. And yes, I so remember about the sling. Do you have to sleep in a recliner? I know nothing about this stuff. Did your rotator cuff just disintegrate or something. I feel so bad for you. Hope those pain meds do their thing. Take good care. Sending you best wishes and virtual good things to eat. Take care of yourself missy.

Forgot to say I got terrific news at the Specialist. He told me that the lithotripsy the end of Jan. did it's trick and cleared the larger stones in there and then he said that the stone the ultrasound and my Family Dr. told me was HUGE is actually not one stone but a ton of teeny ones, so it's not nearly such a big deal. I am good to go and have an appointment in one year's time to go in to see how they are doing and deal with any that have grown by then. YAY!

Had lunch. Jim is out shovelling and I'm about to make fudge. :)

    Good Afternoon Everyone!

Hoping you get everything you need to get done today Michelle. Nice on all the baking! Don't you just hate when you try and load pics here and it doesn't work and then you can't fix it. None-the-less they are great. Too bad the limit is 3 :(

Geez Janet and all those who live in Canada, how much more snow can you get? At what point does the weather start to turn?
Bummer on the shrimp and guac dish not being all that. Great news about your doctor visit! Happy to hear all is well.

Dementia is horrible Karen. All diseases are and I can vouch that being a care giver is hard. Hoping it all works out when they visit.

Poor Den having to shovel all that snow on his days off Joce. I bet those strawberries are good!

Shona I am so sorry to hear you landed in the hospital. I'm really feeling bad for you. How the heck did your shoulder get so bad and when? Sending a big hug your way and hoping they are able to do something for you. 2 weeks is going to seem like forever for an answer with what to do. Hang in there. I'll be thinking of you and saying some prayers.

We never ask that question Linda. LOLOLOLOL. We'd jinx it for sure if we uttered that question. Already you can feel a warmth from the sun as opposed to last month when everything is just frozen solid. In another month it should be turning around. The birds know we've made it more than half way through the winter. I heard a Chickadee's spring song this past week. How did your stew turn out? Hope you and DH are having a 'good' day today.

Since we had no therapies scheduled today thought it would be ideal to do a Costco run. Didn't need much but I wanted some fish and meat. I was hoping they would have mahi but they did not. Did pick up salmon and steaks for DH and ground turkey plus a few odds and ends.
The beef stew I made yesterday came out really good but DH wanted nothing to do with it. He was cranky all day and then not having something to eat for dinner just sent him over the edge. He was also upset all day because his vision is either blurred or doubled or something in one of his eyes and I'm sure it's scary. They say it's part of the healing and not to rush to get an eye doctor appointment. I asked him if he wanted to go but he doesn't. Maybe it goes in and out. Hard to tell when someone can't talk. He got so upset he was in tears and all I could do was hold him and comfort him. It's heartbreaking to see such a strong man reduced to what he is. Just wish recovery wasn't such a long process.
Then on top of all this I need to take the bunny in to the vet. Her right eye started tearing and then stop but is tearing again. I have an appointment Friday at 6:00 p.m.
I tried rinsing it with drops thinking maybe she got something in it but its still tearing. She let me take a really good look at it too and I don't see anything. I'm hoping she's not starting dental problems.

Here's the beef stew recipe. Made it stove top and only changes were using diced tomato with basil, garlic, oregano, and thyme (because that's what I had). Also did add the Worcestershire sauce but did add carrots and at the end some peas for color.
It was perfect! Didn't need to thicken it either.

Nice on the Costco run and glad your stew turned out Linda. You got me craving it (and I'm not even a big stew fan) so I'm going to do one tomorrow in the crock pot for dinner. That would indeed be scary for DH if his vision isn't working properly plus it's probably SO disheartening because he'd feel like nothing is working properly. :( Hope he has a better day tomorrow. Sorry to hear the bunny's eye is bothering her as well. :( That stew recipe is very similar to mine. I got mine from the crockpot recipe book. I like tomatoes so that's a neat addition that mine doesn't call for and I love Balsamic although I'd be skeptical that 1 tsp. would at all change the flavour?

Fudge is made. Almost burned it. Yikes. Went off to sweep the family room while the chocolate chips melted. But I saved it. Phew. Got the house 98% clean. All I have left to do this evening is make our dinner. I'll leave the veggie prep 'til tomorrow morning.

the morphine is finally wearing off a bit, I hate being so foggy and loopy. but the t4's are making me light headed too, so forgive me if I don't make sense
ive always had bad shoulder pain that's come and gone since I separated it and broke it 23 yrs ago. I haven't done physio in a long time or have had it checked out, bad me.....but the pain I had was so sharp and intense I was crying out in pain, so pete forced me to go to the hospital. I was shaking so bad I was almost in shock from the pain. the muscle relaxers and pain meds at home did nothing, so I knew it was time to go!
because I couldn't breathe so well they kept me to watch my heart, blood pressure and oxy. levels. the xray showed major deformity in my right shoulder, neck, back and arm. but I went to the smaller hosp. so after two weeks of rest and meds I will go to the other hosp. and get an mri to see inside better. I always knew my arm was hanging by a thread and it's worn dowm from so much tendinitis and calcification.

that stew is similar to my favorite one, I love the richness from the tom paste and flavor from the balsamic Heartwarming Beef Stew
good news from the specialist janet, I could so go for some fudge right now...yum

I'm trying to read back more but the words are jumping all over the page, better rest my eyes, goodnite xx

So sorry to hear about your shoulder, Shona. Prayers for healing. How did it start?

Hope your DH finds improvement in his vision, Linda. It must be frustrating to both of you. Sorry the bunny is tearing in his eye. Could she have allergies?

Geezer has an injury....his ear is infected at the base, probably where A.C. either scratched, or more likely, bit him the other day. He let me spritz some stuff on it, crossing fingers it doesn't worsen. Don't like treating him when we have our company here, he would have to be crated and kept in the garage to avoid re-contamination or confrontation with A.C.. Poor guy. (The crate is a large metal one and I have used it to hold cats, and him when we first got him, that need to be medicated etc. every day.)

Non burnt fudge definitely is superior, Janet! LOL! I love Balsamic also, a small amount shouldn't change it too much?

We are in a fire weather watch. It may change to fire warning. Our fire chief is still out of state and we are woefully under manned. Conservation has a controlled burn to the South, smoke is across the entire horizon.

Haven't heard any more about the Orville Dam. Thinking about you, Marie!

Time to fix supper. Leftover potato soup and ?? With.

Morphine, foggy and loopy are superior to screaming pain Shona so try go with it. :) Sending you virtual fudge. I like the soya sauce in your stew too. Poor you. Try sleep tonight.

I'm more concerned that 1 tsp. of balsamic vinegar won't taste like anything Karen. It seems too little of an amount. I'd be tempted to go with a couple of tbsp. Sorry to hear Geezer is hurt.

1tsp. Was all the balsamic needed ... it was enough to brighten the flavor without really changing it. I was Leary to add it but then thought, oh what the heck, and added it.

Hope you get Geezers boo boo under control Karen. Cat bites are nasty, there is something in their saliva to set infections (at least that's my understanding).
Bunny doesn't have allergies. It's either a sign of dental issues, perhaps an injury. I'm thinking dental because it happened a few weeks ago, but only for a day, then stopped and because it started again in the same eye I'm not thinking injury. :(

Morphine is strong stuff Shona. I too hate taking anything that makes me loopy. Prayers you are able to rest and that the pain subsides. Is anyone there to help?

Wayne thinks Geezer may have been bitten by a possum or other animal. The injury looks worse than a cat bite. Will see how the wound progresses. This is not the weekend for it. Sigh! Our friend called and we made some changes in menu and sleeping arrangements. Daughter offered to take Fritz if needed.

I can't take many pain relievers. Morphine does nothing but upset my stomach. Hope you find one that works for you, Shona.
