Wednesday's Warbling.....

  • chuckieb 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! There are lovely bird sounds floating in the windows. Jim and I had an earlier start to the day than usual. He has already headed off to the garage to get the problem fixed with the power steering.

I made him a fried egg, bacon and toast for brekkie and packed him an egg salad sandwich incase he's there for longer than expected. The mechanic said the job would take about 3 hours plus they are going to switch over our winter tires to summer ones.

I'm just heading out to finish mowing the lawn. It's supposed to get hot here today. 28C/82F so I don't want to be out there this afternoon doing this! Jim and I may go for a jaunt this afternoon when he gets back. I'm going to BBQ shishkebob for dinner this evening and we have a Sens Game to look forward to as well.

Wishing everyone a most lovely, blue sky, sunshiny day!

    Hello there.

    Shishkabob sounds great.

It is supposed to be a warm day here - in the 80's. (F). I will probably have to run GS into orthodontist appt. and swimming by myself. Wayne's buddy may come over. It is supposed to rain -- they changed it to Thursday, most on Friday. Sigh.It is very windy and I am not looking forward to the drive or long night, esp. since I woke up at 5:42 and stayed awake. Sigh. If I am by myself I will have to decide whether to run GS home and let her decide what to feed him since she is off at 5 and will be home packing for the swim meet he has this weekend, or go home and feed him. I think I will take him home. Ha ha. We can have leftovers.

If Wayne can come with (if his buddy isn't coming over to work) then we can decide whether to drop him off and eat at Crow Creek on the way home or feed him.......still leaning toward the drop off choice! He is so picky. Pasta in tomato sauce or burgers or chicken strips. Last night Wayne ran him in so I could get some stuff from Schwanns. I fixed some pasta, put leftover spaghetti sauce, leftover hamburger, lots of garlic powder, and a can of el-cheapo, gross, terrible Hunt's tomato sauce -- GS devoured it. No accounting for kid's taste! He had two helpings.I would like something a bit less pasta-ish tonight.

I am sitting in the sun room enjoying the cat-free zone. It is the only room that stays clean -- ha ha! Monday evening we have a meeting here, it will be in the sun room bec. they can gather around the table. So I need to fix cookies and either iced tea or coffee for them to drink. If I can get to the commissary before then my cupboards will not be so bare... ha ha!

I hear Wayne so best scoot and get dressed for the day - don't want to be in my pj's if his buddy shows up. Eek!

Good Morning Karen! Sorry you didn't sleep well. I am in the same boat. Woke up at least four different times during the night and didn't get a sound snooze. You have a lot of running around to do that's for sure. Good luck to your GS at his Ortho appnt. Did you get some nice goodies from Schwann's?

All done the lawn and about to hit the shower. Only took me an hour and a half to finish so that was pretty glad. Sure was pleased to get out when I did as I was starting to melt and the sun isn't even at it's peak yet. Still need to clean up the kitchen.

Morning!! Lol at 82 degrees being hot Janet. Yum on KABOBS and go Sens! That sucks about your restless sleep. That's how I slept 2 nights ago.

Sounds like you have a busy day Karen, ugh on waking up so early :(
Lol at kids taste buds. Both of my kids LOVE canned ravioli. Gag.

Michael and the kids requested some dessert so I'm going to make 2. A chocolate silk pie because I have a roll of pie crust to use up and a healthy apple skillet pie.

I think Janet made me crave burgers the other day because that's what I decided on for tonight :) May throw some hot dogs on the grill too since Caiden prefers them over burgers. Wishing everyone a great day!!

LOL @ you being amused that I htink 82F is hot Michelle. (It is!!!!) :) I used to LOVE Chef Boyardee Ravioli when I was in college. I think I even had a can last year. LOL. Yum on burgers and hot dogs and dessert Michelle! You'll have happy campers today for sure! Jim and I on occasion indulge in a Costco hotdog when we're there and this past trip I actually bought a package so I could make them at home. I bet they'd be great on the grill. The only thing is I better go look for extra long buns because these would stick way out of a normal sized hot dog bun.

I hope Jim doesn't have to wait longer than anticipated, Janet. Shishkebob's sound great for such a hot humid day! Glad you finished the lawn before it gets hotter. GO SENS GO!
I rarely sleep right through the night, Karen so I can commiserate with you. I hope Wayne can come with you so you don't have to drive. Plus I hope you get to the commissary to stock up.
When it gets hot there, Michelle do you get a lot of humidity? We always do and it is a killer! Kids usually love Chef Boyardee Ravioli. I wish Chef Boyardee still made their canned spaghetti sauce as it makes homemade spaghetti sauce taste so much better.
Burgers and hot dogs are perfect for the grill.

We are having ham tonight b/c I noticed yesterday it is getting close to its due date. I am not sure if I will make scalloped potatoes to go with it or not. I need to dust and do the hardwood floors today. We have had our windows open which is really nice but then we get more dust then. Wishing everyone a great day. GO SENS GO!

Hi Michelle! I saw a recipe for Ky. Derby pie and it looked so good. Will have to wait until my pants un-shrink.....doggone closet does it all the time, and I couldn't have put on weight now, right?

Have you tried Hebrew National hot dogs? They are Kosher so no icky stuff! GS can't have any brand because of the nitrates/nitrites causing his migraines. I have located some uncured ones but after reading the labels decided the dyes would do him in....no food coloring allowed, either.

82F is more warm, I think, Janet. But when you live in the frozen North lands it must seem hot. Ha ha. When we lived in Georgia I was hot and sweaty and even showers didn't help me feel cool. Enough to decide it was not the climate for me, it was so humid!

Cats had a great time romping outdoors. I brought them in early because we have to leave to pick up GS early afternoon. And they were all available to snag. Even Mauser stayed outside for a while, never venturing off the front porch, of course.

May stop at Lowes to get tomato plants if they have Romas. We ha be an hour and a half between dr appt and his swimming.

    Have a good day!

If you aren't able to sleep through the night Joce do you find you need to take a nap in the afternoons? Yum on ham for dinner. That sounds yummy. Good luck with the house cleaning.

Good that you managed to round up the cats Karen. A Garden Centre is a good place to waste some time for sure. :)

Good afternoon everyone. It's a hot one!! Glad that you got the lawn mowed early, Janet, because no one should be working outside in this weather. Your dinner sounds wonderful. Sorry that you didn't sleep well, I can't remember the last time that I slept through the night. Fingers crossed that the car repair bill is reasonable.

Good luck with your errands, Karen. Lol @ your GS eating that. It's the fluctuation in the temperatures that makes the heat feel unbearable.

Mmmm, burgers and chocolate silk pie!! My kids would never eat canned pasta we called it "heat and discard."

I love ham, joce, and scalloped potatoes are a must for me. I'm not sure that I would want to turn the oven on today though. I don't think that I've ever had the canned spaghetti sauce by Chef Boyardee. We have the issue with dust too as we are really close to the Queensway.

My MIL is being transferred to a nursing home tomorrow for which we are very thankful. She'll be with other Italian women and that should make her day so much easier. Dinner will be chicken and spinach salad.

So for those who don't sleep through the night. Do you think this will be a 'forever' thing? I hate when I get a bad night's sleep and I don't know what I would do if I was faced with that forever. :(

LOL @ "Heat and discard" Bren. Best of luck to your MIL with her move. I hope she likes it. I'm guessing she's going to Villa Marconi. I have an Italian Girlfriend whose Mom is in there. :) Your dinner sounds lovely.

Jim just got home. Car bill $1000.

Good afternoon to all. Record breaking temps here again. Just checked and 95F at the moment. Did have to chuckle a bit as it was already 80F here this morning at 8:30! Ouch on the car repair bill Janet! That's good that your MIL is being transferred Bren. Sounds like she will fit right in. I'm like Joce, haven't slept thru the night in years. Never really did that well to begin with and then quite a few years back we had a house fire in the middle of the night (Charlie saved us from just burning up in our beds!) and ever since then I hear every little noise. Plus with teenagers always in the house, got used to hearing that front door when they would come home to make sure they were in before curfew, lol!

Not sure what for dinner tonight if anything. Might just be an appy night. Hubs and I went out for a late lunch at http://marker8.com/ . One of our favorite places. Their website is down but you can still view the menu. It's right on the water and only about 10 minutes from home and a delightful tiki bar. Had their Cuban. Have had it a few times and it is one of the best I've ever had! And huge! Brought the other half home for Cayce to eat later.

Hope all don't melt since it appears to be hot all around today. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon.

An appy night sounds perfect Kimmer. Love tiki bars. So fun. Love Cubans too. They do have a nice menu. I think I'd choose the cuban as well although that panko crusted cod sandwich also sounds nice. Wow on conch fritters. I don't see that on menus very often. In fact I never have. I have read about them though.

I haven't slept since my early 40's Janet. I've gotten used to being constantly tired. Yes, she's going to Villa Marconi. Three of her sisters live within walking distance so they will be able to have lunch with her. Ouch on the car repair.

That's hot Kimmer, it's 86 at the moment. Holy, that must have been scary, no wonder everything wakes you up. That's a really nice looking menu, I would have a difficult time deciding and the prices are really good. I love appy night, hubs not so much.

You haven't slept since your early '40's Bren! That's horrible! And your Dr. doesn't have any fix its? I pray something like that doesn't hit me. Oh my goodness. Oh that's so nice your MIL has three sisters living close by so they can visit lots. That will make ALL the difference. Excellente! I'm sure I've mentioned it in the past but Benjamin used to be fluent in Italian. He's lost it now a lot since he's been in Taiwan but he took it in University and even was awarded the best student and received a beautiful book in recognition of his efforts from the Italian Ambassador in Ottawa.

Hi Everyone! I am still at work lol sharing the car now that Rachel is home from college so I have to wait til someone picks me up. I came in later so it isn't too bad.
I don't sleep through the night either, I always wake up a few times during the night. For some reason Friday night I slept through the night and woke up at like 7:30 then I laid in bed until like 8 or 9. It was very unusual I even said to Frank I slept through the night!
Linda check in and let us know how you are.
It is warm here today and tomorrow is supposed to be 90 crazy weather we went from 45 to 80 in a day! No spring just straight to summer.

I took out some chicken breast I think I am gonna throw some dressing on it and put it on the grill. I wont get home til close to 7 so maybe Frank will take the initiative lol not.

My doctor is useless Janet. She has no bedside manner and is abrupt and humourless. Nope, you've never mentioned that about Benjamin. What an honour!! He'll pick it up quickly when he starts using it again.

Hi Laurie, what a pain having to share a car. Chicken on the grill sounds excellent. I remember sleeping through the night once and was quite surprised when I woke in the same position that I fell asleep in.

I forgot to mention that the escort service is back on the home page. I really wish that someone could do something about that.

One last thing....it's about the salad dressing Janet. Look for a recipe that has an emulsifier in it as you want a thicker dressing.

Hi. Wayne and GS went into Lowes to checktarps. I carried some plants from the. Users and must have twisted my back......it hurts when I walk. So am waiting in the car while they do their thing.

I sometimes sleep thru and sometimes wake up. It depends on how much caffeine I drank the night before, or if Wayne starts snoring in my ear! Etc.

Fritz warns us of approaching raccoons but ignores people. Plus he is asleep under the comforter most of the time during the night. I have woken to the feel of a warm dog head ON MY PILLOW. He is then evicted. No pillow, no under the sheet, etc.

Stopped at the Suncliff nursery and bought 2 rhubarb, oregano, 3 Romas, 2 green peppers, a banana pepper, rosemary, lavender, stevia, peppermint. The owner gave me the begonia bec it was a horribly windy day and all their fruit trees were lying where they fell. We expect 45 mph winds this afternoon. The trees are swaying like mad.

They are back. See you later.

Hi Laurie! What's Rachel doing for the summer? Has Becca started her new job and if so, is she enjoying it? Grilled chicken breast sounds lovely Ugh on you not sleeping through the night either. For years now I get up once during the night as advised by my Kidney Dr. but I try remain half asleep and generally nod right back off.

What a shame about your Dr. Bren. :( Have you considered changing? Rolling eyes at the escort service. Yes, thanks about the emulsifier tip. I did read that as I was googling. The Greek dressing I made had dijon mustard in it as an emulsifier but perhaps not enough?

You got some good stuff at the Nursery Karen! Sorry you hurt your back :( What do you use your peppermint for? Do you make herbal teas?

  • MissouriFarmWife 6 years ago said:
Forgot the lone cherry tomato plant.!

Janet, Peppermint is supposed to be good as a tea, and allegedly deters mice although I have not tested that. I don't recall if I picked a chocolate mint or not, was going to but the nursery was so full of stuff I may have walked by. The plants are so much better than WalMart specials, although I do get some there also. Esp. the flowers. I have not made tea with peppermint but really must try it. With honey of course.

Someone please move that clock along so we can go home...ha ha.

Planning another business trip to St. Augustine on Sunday. Voiced my concerns to hubs about leaving tiny little baby Chloe behind. Hubs has officially dubbed me the crazy cat lady, lol! He says that's why we went with the kitten instead of the puppy so it would be easier to leave! Cayce will take very good care of her but what if she cries for me Sunday night! She cries when I'm out of sight too long. Hubs says I have spoiled her beyond belief. Could be true, lol................

Ok, posted the current ad for escorts on our county Sheriffs website. Only reason is, I worry about human trafficking which is rampant here in Florida. May not do any good since this isn't a county thing but thought hey, they might check them out. Not to get them off GR necessarily, but draw attention to the website itself. Ya never know!

Hi everyone. Really tired tonight. I too haven't slept thru the night without waking several times in years. I thank menopause for it (I went very early).
So much is happening so quickly. Out the two "recommended" places the discharge nurse recommended I went and seen them and one is nice but it'll be pricey and the other is a scum hole but cheaper. I have to in good conscious go with the better one and hope he will accept being there for a few months. The intake coordinator seen him today and said DH was doing well so I guess his meds are working. The hospital is so bad communicating anything and I'm not forcing issues because I just don't need to be more stressed and upset. I have to get furniture to the place as the rooms are not furnished so I have to have a local mover move the spare bedroom set and need to call tomorrow. The coordinator will hopefully be able to work with the hospital to keep him there until we are set. At least the place is new, clean, nice, and familiar furnishings will be better. The other place was old, worn down, and just awful. I pray DH accepts he needs to be there and won't be coming home or else I don't know what I'll do if he does what he did the last time and they have to remove him. I can not have him home. I see an elder law attorney next Wednesday and hope too they have answers. I haven't seen DH yet, visiting hours are only for one hour Tuesday and Thursday nights, I'm hoping to go tomorrow night and get a feel for his temperament.

My heart goes out to you Linda. I can't fathom what your going through and have been through. Please know that we are here for you. I am guessing that he is being forced to take his meds which is what he needs. I'm sure that there will be resistance on his part but I hope that in time he will settle in. Gentle hugs and try to get some rest.

Thanks Kimmer, I hadn't thought of that aspect, human trafficking. Yup, ya never know.

The Sens are HOT tonight eh Joce and Janet.
