Willing Wednesday!

Good Morning Everybody! Couldn't resist the thread title today. Jim and I are going to see a Lawyer this morning to get our wills drawn up. LOLOL. We've been very neglectful in not getting it done before now but 'better late than never' as they say. Should be straight forward.
I had been planning on bopping around down town for the remainder of the day but it's another cool, dreary day and it's supposed to rain off and on so I've decided just to drive Jim in to work and then come home and run errands. Think I'll pick up a movie to watch tonight. They installed one of those Red Box units for movie rentals at my Sobey's and they emailed me a free movie code to punch in as a bonus.
    I think I may make
    Pizza Stuffed Chicken
for dinner this evening. Something nice on the side but haven't thought of it yet. I need some more bird seed at Costco and a few groceries as well.
Having been in retail my entire career it's really interesting for me to hear about the Market Basket Saga Laurie. It does sound like a great opportunity for Shaws to step forward out of the shadows.
LOLOL on me thinking AC was a dog Karen. Too funny! I really enjoyed hearing your stories of Chicago, Hyde Park and Ohio. Thanks for sharing. That's one of the things I love most about GR and ODD.....hearing glimpses into other people's lives and learning things that I would have never thought of before.
Eeesh on the Dr.'s tinkering with your meds Tina. I know it has to be done but it's always nerve racking until they get it right right? :) Yummers on pressed Cubans. How did you sleep?
A big wave out to everyone else. Have a lovely day.

Janet : A.C. wasn't insulted that you called him a dog, but he reminded me that he is a person and we are his servants.

Chicago was interesting with lots to do but I would not live there again, esp. if we had kids. The crime rate was unreal. And their anti-gun rules still make it difficult to defend against home invasions, etc. We looked outside one time and the police were arresting some less-than-savory characters. We were also there during the infamous Democratic National Convention (1968 ?) but the riots were in a different section of town and didn't impact us as much as the ones when MLK Jr. was killed.

Laurie - have a great trip to Florida. Not being geographically informed, I have no idea which parts of which states you will drive through. (I assumed you were driving since you mentioned traveling with teens.) If you are a member of AAA try their tour books with lists of all the different attractions / tourist traps / etc.

North Carolina intrigued me - especially signs advertising emergency survival equipment places, etc. One that I found interesting was the "1,000 gun pawn shop." Not that I want to buy another gun, especially out of state, but it really piqued my curiosity. I can't imagine that many rifles lined up along the walls. LOL.

Good Morning. I actually got 9 hours of sleep, uninterrupted! Of course, that was with double meds.

Laurie, what would be your maximum commute time to the in-laws in Spring Hill?

I'd go St. Pete Beach. Alden Suites is reasonable and family friendly and a personal favorite. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34606-d85777-Reviews-Alden_Suites-Saint_Pete_Beach_Florida.html If budget is no concern, look at the Don CeSar or the Tradewinds. Other resorts that are super nice but not as expensive would be the Grand Plaza Beachfront, the Sirata Beach Resort, the Howard Johnson on SPB (home of the Toasted Monkey!) and right next door to the Tradewinds, easy access to their beach activities. Liv worked at the Beef O'Brady's in the Tradewinds Resort. Frank might like the Guy Harvey Outpost and their HUGE aquarium located in the Outpost. It was featured on Tanked, Travel Channel.

From SPBeach, you have a 10 minute drive to Fort Desoto Park and the girls can rent kayaks or rollerblade their trails. It is a natural beach and it is the beach of my youth. Picnic areas, the Fort to explore (3 minutes tops LOL), fishing piers and the crazy raccoons at night.

The drive time from SPBeach to Spring Hill is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. Drive time to Tampa/Busch Gardens/MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) under 40 minutes. Drive to Orlando FL (Universal Studios, Disney) slightly over two hours.

You would be under 15 minutes from my house (LOL). Downtown St Pete has oodles of museums (Chihuly, Salvador Dali, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Natural History), a gorgeous waterfront park on the Bay, restaurants galore for a day visit. They have Segways you can rent and tour the downtown. The Vinoy Resort is flat out glam-tastic to have a cocktail.

The famous Skyway Bridge is just 1 minute drive from my house and it is worth a drive over the bridge. You can go to Ellenton, south of the Bridge and visit the Ice rink (next to a HUGE outlet mall), or to Bradenton and see the manatee exhibit. There is a Southeastern Guide dogs facility that welcomes visitors to see the dog training and allows you to pet and socialize the dogs in training. About a 45 minute drive to each.

Now you know why I was called Tina the Tourguide in a previous life. LOL

Olivia is leaving Beef's. She has the big wedding (Little Phil, son of Bea and Phil) a week from Friday in TN and will be gone for 4 days. The owners of the Toasted Monkey (Scotty is the chef) have asked her to come work for them. They used to own SeaHags. So Bea and Phil seem to like Liv a lot and want her to learn other aspects of the restaurant/hospitality biz. Banquet service and bartending, as long as they aren't trying to set Scotty and Liv as the next husband and wife restaurant owners, I'm good. Olivia needs to travel and do something else with her life.

Janet, enjoy your errand day. Sometimes a grey day is all it takes to get some running around done. Hope you find a good movie to watch. I'm still waiting for 'Chef' to be released. Fred and I just did our wills last year, you aren't the only couple to put it off.

Karen, NC has a huge percentage of the population that is survival oriented. There was a huge manhunt in western NC for a survivalist that had threatened the President a few years back. Federal agents could not find him in the mountains because too many of a like mind protected his whereabouts. The small local papers always show tips on how to put away food for long time storage in the event of catastrophic collapse. Off the Grid is nearly taught at birth. I love looking at some of the homes for sale and there are gun safes in nearly every home or a rifle casually leaning against the grandfather clock.

I ache like a bad tooth. Too much sleep? Ha ha!

Dinner is the steak sandwich with gouda, chimichurri sauce (no bread for me). Leftover Salty balls Maui style and some kind of salad. I have romaine, bok choy, nectarines, candied walnuts...maybe an Asian style dressing.

Still waiting on two prescriptions and I'm having trouble getting my chest x-ray scheduled.

Happy Hump day to all (Hello Arthur!!!)

Hello! Good luck at writing up your wills Janet! Pizza Stuffed Chicken looks awesome, I'm sure you'll love it :) Are you going to serve pizza sauce on it? Enjoy your movie tonight!
Hi Laurie, Yay on Rachel coming home! Bet she had a blast at camp :)
Yikes, I think I'll stay away from Chicago Karen. Lol at the gun pawn shop!
Hi TIna, SO glad you got some good sleep last night, bet you feel a ton better!
Michael took the kids to get pizza and haircuts. I stayed back to get some laundry and cleaning done, FUN! Lol! I need to make a trip to the grocery store, I'm completely out of veggies!! D Thinking of making this tonight:
    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pork-and-Pepper-Stir-Fry/Detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=pork%20and%20pepper&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Recipe%20Search%20Results&soid=sr_results_p1i3
Maybe with a side of green beans, if I make it to the grocery store lol! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Giggle Laurie. Rachel hardly left and it sounds like you've really been missing her already! But that's a good thing. :) And you're travelling to Florida with three teenagers. Do you have a third you've neglected to tell us about? LOLOL. Tina the Tour Guide is certainly the person to go to in this situation. :)
LOL Karen. Glad to hear I didn't insult AC. We had cats for years 21 and 22 years respectively....or 20 and 22, can't quite remember anymore. They certainly ruled the roost don't I know it! I've never ever lived in a place with a high crime rate and I hope I never do. In Canada we have anti-gun legislation and I'm totally all for that but I know 'to each their own' and everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion. I've driven past gun stores in Texas when we were visiting my FIL and I must say they scare the hell out of me. It's just such a foreign concept to me.
Wow! Somebody mark the calendar! Tina got NINE hours of sleep! I don't know that that's ever happened before has it? :) Good. I'm glad for you. Meds or not. Fort Desoto Park sounds fun. As does that big aquarium. And I'd totally be going to those St. Pete's Museums way before you'd ever get me to go to Universal Studios. But that's just me. Congrats to Liv on her new position at the Toasted Monkey. I was actually going to ask if there was a need for some reason for NC to be concerned about Emergency Survival Equipment. Thanks for giving me the lowdown. Again, I find it fairly un-nerving. :) Your dinner sounds excellent. Hope you get your prescriptions filled asap as well as your x-ray scheduled.
It went well at the Lawyer's. A couple of things we hadn't thought of that we need to discuss and we go back in a few weeks and sign it all to make it legal. It does make me feel all grown up. LOL!
Had a good shop at Costco. Got some nice terry towel bath mats at a good price. Mine were getting old. Got a new daybook, bird seed of course and a nice pkg. of lambchops at a good price as well.
Didn't find a movie. Will try again when I go back in to pick up Jim. Benjamin has recommended a few but I forgot the names. :)

SP Michelle! No I'm not going to do pizza sauce on it. Bought a nice Italian style salami and have a more 'grown up' cheese mix (parmigiano and other stuff) and I may do a Caprese salad on the side. I think I may have chosen the haircut and pizza job instead of the one you chose. :)
    Good song Tina!

Lol. We are not driving to Florida with three teens! I am not that crazy!! We are flying in and staying with my inlaws for a week. They live in Spring Hill or Brooksville Florida. Last year we did a few day trips. Went to Clearwater beach, and another beach I think pine island for a sunset dinner, and sea world. We may go back to Clearwater but I know Tina is always talking about St Pete's. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like you had a nice day today Janet, I'm glad you mentioned bath mats because I keep forgetting to pick one up to put in from of my tub in the bathroom. That bathtub hardly ever got used so I just never bought one for it, but now Caiden LOVES taking baths in it and running the jets :) I like the sound of your "grown up" version of that pizza chicken...can't wait to hear how you liked it!
LOL LOL on the "third child" Laurie!!!!

Laurie - yes, flying is probably the better way to go with 3 teenagers. LOL.

MO is somewhat survivalist oriented - but more prepper. (Food preservation, etc.) We also had a survivalist dude hiding for months in the woods, sleeping in hollow trees, etc. until the law got him. I don't recall what he had done or why. But I don't think, at 69 yo, I'll be hiding in the forest or joining the militia any time soon. LOL

Janet - my sister lives in Ontario and shares your gun outlook. I don't know much about Canadian laws, but when we traveled through there everyone was super friendly and helpful. I was impressed!
Never owned or wanted a gun until we moved to a rural area. Now I hunt deer (without success but the scenery is gorgeous and the little jumping mouse kept me entertained while the deer were elsewhere. - cute!) I have dispatched one rabid critter with the .22 when Wayne was out brush hogging in the field. Living in town is a whole different scene - when we lived in suburbs of Columbus, GA a peeping tom was making the rounds until our crazy neighbor shot at him with a pistol. Scared me more than the peeping tom!

Sounds like you'll have a really fun time Laurie and I know your Parents in Law will be tickled to see you. Nice of you to bring Rachel's friend along as well.
Again Michelle, you make me think back to Benjamin as a wee one in the tub. I used to make him bath-tub paint out of shaving cream and food colouring. I'd make different colours and put them in a 6 cup muffin tin, give him a big art brush and let him paint the sides of the tub and the walls. Most of all he liked dunking the brush under water and seeing a coloured fountain of shaving cream bob to the surface.
Where in Ontario does your sister live Karen and what prompted her to move to Canada? The only time I ever had a gun it was a pellet gun. LOL. And my Mom and I used to go out on country paths and hunt for partridge when I was young but we never caught a one. :) Goodness at the neighbour shooting the peeping tom with a pistol. That'd scare me as well for sure. :)
Joce and Marie....hope you guys are okay today. Have a good evening everyone.

Janet - My sister is an ordained ELCA Lutheran minister. She has a church about 100 miles, more or less, north of Toronto. (It has been years since I was there.) But the name of the town escapes me. It is a very small town and she lives in the countryside. She is also a cat person and has malamutes. Well, only one malamute now, I think, and one foxhound - beagle (?) cross. I think she has 4 cats; one belonged to my dad and she made him (the cat) a Canadian "citizen" when Dad went into the assisted care. He had 2 cats, she took both of them and sent him regular reports. The elderly one died at about 18 years of age, about a month after my Dad. My brothers and sister and I plan on getting together this fall. Her comment was she was tired of only seeing everyone at funerals - we lost Dad, one niece, and one uncle in the last 14 months.

Oooh - a deer just sauntered past the garage and stood about 30 yards from the house then stood there watching us watching her. Coo!.

We do have one pellet gun. It is louder than the .22 and I don't care for that. The only thing I like is anyone can get one, and the ammo is cheap and easy to find, unlike the current situation in the U.S.where regular ammo is sometimes difficult to find and often overpriced.

I don't own a gun and doubt I ever will. I did shoot a pistol at soda cans with Mom when we went camping in my youth. I'm drawn to a simpler life in the country. The pace in this town is frenetic. I long for peace, quiet and books. I found a house in Franklin that is adorable. Not enough bedrooms, though. Yep, I'd sell this huge house and move. I can't keep up with the housekeeping here. The heat and humidity is killing me. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/343-Crowes-Branch-Rd-Franklin-NC-28734/65643007_zpid/

I want to see deer in my yard and listen to a brook. I want to can my own food. I want to listen to the wind in the trees. I want to see snow. I want to cuddle in front of a fireplace. I've been so ill that I fear I won't see or do these things. Karen, I agree with your sister. Schedule a family reunion for fun, not to mourn a loss. Life is too precious. Love the kitty haven your sister provided. I had an orange tabby who lived 18 years, deaf and nearly blind but active to the end. We have had two Maine Coons in recent years, I miss them so. Mr. Muffin lost his life in a possum fight. Smokey just vanished.

Results from my labwork yesterday indicates a heart compromise or trauma since my last baseline test. High risk for pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis. Even though the leg tested "clear", it is time for a second opinion. Plus the medicine I'm taking says ABSOLUTELY no driving. How is my job going to deal with that, I don't know?

Karen, you had the peeping Tom shot by your neighbor.....when we first moved in this house there was a housing project less than two blocks from us. One night we heard a commotion on our back patio, Fred went to check and we had a NAKED man face down on our porch getting cuffed by police. The police told Fred to step away from the slider. And there we sat for 45 minutes until the policeman came to our front door and told us the intruder was fleeing arrest for a drug deal and weapons possession. He ran from the project complex shedding his clothing in different yards to throw off the dogs. The project has been demolished and there are very very pricey condos with marina access being built.

Very long ago when we lived in the bungalow on 14th street, the police had a shoot out with an armed and dangerous person one house away from ours. There were shell casings marked by yellow flags all over the street. The body was still in the street covered by a sheet at the time I was expecting the handicapped bus to take Ty and Liv to school. It was nightmarish to say the least. I had the police move their cruiser to block the view for my kids. Thankfully, the crime rate has fallen and incidents like this are removed from our neighborhood.

    Sleep sweet ala Kimmer.
