is there anyone left who still eats pasta?

being that i live in NYC and work in fashion..
i feel like pasta had been banned...

back in the day...you would be on a job and the lunch would be catered...
the first thing to go would always be the pasta-which was part of every lunch without fail....

now- if any caterer DARES to bring pasta- it remains untouched...
even the young male photo assistants who would normally basically devour anything put in front of them shy away from anything pasta related...

*the same goes for bagels at breakfast...

i feel like i am eating a giant bowl of ice cream when i have a bowl of spaghetti...since it's such a no no...
people are almost in shock if someone orders pasta when i eat out...

it's almost like someone lighting a cigarette in the middle of a resaurant...
which also used to be ok...LOL...

my my- how times have changed....
    OY!...

We are pasta users - big time. It is like chicken in that it takes on whatever flavors you add in. Be it with sauces (and I love both the tomato sauce and the pesto I've posted) to salads, or a lazy meal of pasta and salad... we love it.

    You are not alone.

Had to respond to this thread. Despite the fact that my husband and I try to be as health conscious as possible we still have pasta but try to limit the amounts. There is nothing like stuffed shells, shrimp in garlic sauce over linguine or just spaghetti and meatballs with a great bottle of wine.

Speaking on the topic of pasta we have a pasta machine that needs to be experimented with but we haven't gotten around to it yet. :)

i think most people outside of Italy don't explore all the nuances of pasta...
There are so many varieties of pasta and so many different sauces that go with each one best...

one of my fave things is roasted garlic with chopped tomatoes and fresh basil with capellini......

it's so light and perfect in the summertime..!

or some twisty pasta with pesto to catch all that pesto goodness in the nooks...mmmm...

or a thick ridged pasta like rigatoni or ziti to be baked with sauce, ricotta and mozarella..stick-to-your-ribs goodness!...

i could go on and on...
one of my fave things is orechiette with rape (also called broccoli rabe)...
the dish that is the signature of Puglia- the regioin of Italy that my mom comes from...
i was raised on this...just drizzled with olive oil...
    so simple, healthy and delicious...

cookiing orechiette is a trick--- i think you have to leave them soaking in the water for a few minutes after you turn off the pot (like rice)...so they absorb more water...
    orzo has similar properties...

orzo is perfect in my grandmothers baby meatball soup!...

    oh lord.., the pastabilities!...

    LOL...

i totally agree. People act like pasta is going to ruin them if they touch it. So not true. Now a days they also make whole wheat pasta , organic pasta, etc....the list goes on. Obvioulsy too much of anything in life is not good for you but a little pasta goes a long way!! Carbs got a bad name. If people could learn to just eat in moderation you could have all the foods you love and still stay the same size. Unfortunately I agree with softgrey I don't think people know how to prepare it and all of its wonderfull uses. I am yet to eat a sandwich without a peice of bread, My motto is everything in moderation

For those who have to watch carbs or sugar... Try Dreamfields.. It is great. My husband is border so I use this. I won't give up my pasta... I tried, it seemed the fad for awhile.. but... I feel better eating a balanced diet.. And as I was just in the hospital, the Dr said how ever I was eating, to keep it up, and that includes my PASTA!
