I am ducking my head as I say this as I am sure many will disagree but I think this show is over- -rated and I am tired of it.

The American version is a bit overrated saavedra, but have you seen the orginal Japense version that it was based off of? It's a classic. I wish FoodNetwork hadn't taken it off their station :(

Well, I understand your points of view, but I do think that the American show is at least as good as the Japanese version. There are secret ingredients that I will watch, and those that I don't really care about (though I tape those and watch most of them anyway....yes, I am obsessive....), and there are certain iron chefs as well as guest chefs that I am more motivated to watch than others. I like the American version better overall, because even though the argument can be made that it is a bit over the top, that is the point of the show.....it is a competition geared primarily towards being a spectator sport, and with food being the focal point, certain theatrical adjustments have to be allowed for. In my opinion, of course. :-)
I do think they have realized that the ratings are falling off, and have had some questionable judges on lately; again, this is only my humble opininon, I think they should cut Chef Cora (sorry, chef), keep Flay, Morimoto, Batali, and Simon, and go back to the beginning of the series in terms of quality judges....KEEP ALTON! as head commentator, the commentator guy who is on the floor (can't remember his name right now) and Ted Allen, and Jeffrey Steingarten as judges, and add one more regular judge--I like the idea of a woman, and there are several distinguished palates that I could think of--and the show would recapture its prior appeal. Find a way to make the level of difficulty more intense with the secret ingredients (because I think we have run the gamut of different and/or unique ingredients to showcase), upping the ante by limiting other ingredients or techniques or something else. I don't want to see the show go away, but I hear what you guys are saying above.
