Robert Irvine - talk and recipes

    From Robert Irvine and "Dinner: Impossible" on the FoodChannel comes:

    ------------------------------------------

    Robert's Rules for Impossible Dinners

    Get organized: Any task becomes less daunting when you break it into parts and go one step at a time.

    Create a timeline: The items with the longest cooking times have to be addressed first. Prep whatever possible as far in advance as you can.

    Go with what you know: If you're strapped for time, don't start experimenting with foie gras or souffles. If you're a confident roaster, go with a roast.

    Keep it simple and follow your nose: When cooking for a crowd, don't make fifty individual canapes; just split a loaf of great bread, lay on some fresh mozzarella and basil and drizzle with good olive oil. Cook family style in big bowls and platters and let everybody serve themselves.

    Sign 'em up: If there's another couple of good cooks handy, put them to work. The more the merrier, and the faster things get done.
    Secret Weapon Ingredient List

    Robert travels the world on culinary assignments, often carrying only a leather valise in which he keeps certain tools and crucial ingredients. Some of his essential items include:

    * Stone ground mustard
    * Rice wine vinegar
    * Robert's handmade demi-glace
    * A blender
    * A mandoline
    * Titanium knives

    Says the FoodChannel:

    "If you could combine James Bond with MacGyver, you would get Robert Irvine, a real life chef extraordinaire and the host of Dinner: Impossible. Each week, Robert (with the help of his two sous-chefs, George and George) is thrown a new culinary curveball and the team must figure out a way to solve their challenge before time runs out. From making dinner for 150 passengers aboard a luxury locomotive to recreating an authentic 18th century meal, will he succeed or will it truly be, Dinner: Impossible? "

    Somebody somewhere said they didn't know who Guy Fieri is. He is on tonight's episode of Dinner: Impossible. It's a cookoff between the two at a camp.
    I watched the end of tonights show earlier and plan to watch the whole thing here in about three minutes.
    So I'll be back after....

    Wasn't he rumored to have been fired a few months ago for falsifying his resume?

    I saw him last night one the preview for next week's epidose of The Next Food Network star, and thought "huh??"

    I did read today in a couple FoodTV communities on LiveJournal that Michael Symon will be taking over for Robert on Dinner Impossible

    They are bringing him back. He's going to rehost Dinner Impossible. I'm sad. I liked Symon alot better. He didn't scream at people the way Irvine did.

    In reading down the comment list, I was surprised to hear the news about him falsifying his resume, but a friend of mine was ON the episode that included the huge trail ride (300 people on a western trail ride--old episode) and so he had the food that Robert prepared. He said it was one of the nastiest meals he had ever eaten. He told me this BEFORE the show aired, so I was surprised at the gushing over he food on the show--I guess they didn't interview EVERYONE.....LOL
    Anyway, I did like the show, and the concept, so I started watching it.
    The reason that I referenced the resume is that I noticed a few episodes ago, as Symon's DI started running in the next timeslot, that Robert started getting REALLY whiny and flustered on his shows. He was also hypercritical of his help, the concept, yadda yadda. Had no idea that the reason might have been the extra pressure.......not that that is any excuse!
    I agree with headcheerleader that I like Symon better than Irvine. If it is one or the other, cut Irvine!
