hi. i've just recently started taking off meat on my diet. im wondering if you can share with me the recipe on veggie meat. we have a food outlet here in the mall that serves all kinds of food but they use veggie meat instead of regular meat, and i LOVE it. it tastes great. hope i can learn how to prepare it myself.

Morningstar Farms has a meat substitute I like, called Steak Strips. It's sold in our local supermarket. You have to be careful not to over-cook it or it will disintegrate, so I usually add it at the end of cooking. I've tried to make seitan (wheat meat) in the past, but it's complicated and takes a long time. A good Chinese grocery will have a variety of faux meat (including ham), but be careful to read the ingredients. It can have some nasty stuff in it, especially if its made in China.

There is a recipe in "Vegan with a Vengeance" for seitan. It is really quite easy. This is the one I use all the time and it comes out perfect.

Did you ever find what you wanted? I would definitely recommend looking for "seitan", which quite likely is what you would encounter in Asian food that has faux meat. Also, look into Gardein and Morning Star Farms steak and chicken strips as suggested by vegangal. I am sure you won't be disappointed.

I find tofu as the best alternative in the veggie meat. You can try out different tofu recipes, it tastes really good.
