Strawberry Dream Cake

This cake starts with a mix and ends with terrific! If you like strawberry, you will love this cake. I used to make this for my aunt because she loved strawberries and this brings back memories of her.
Ingredients
- Cake: shopping list
- 1 box (18.5 oz) white cake mix shopping list
- 3 oz pkg strawberry gelatin powder shopping list
- 2 Tbsp flour shopping list
- 4 eggs shopping list
- 1/2 cup water shopping list
- 3/4 cup oil shopping list
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries (about 1/2 of a 10 oz pkg) shopping list
- Frosting: shopping list
- 1 cup milk shopping list
- 1/4 cup flour shopping list
- 3/4 cup solid shortening (Crisco) shopping list
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar shopping list
- 1 tsp vanilla shopping list
How to make it
- Cake:
- Combine cake mix, gelatin powder, flour, eggs and water.
- Beat at medium speed for two minutes.
- Add thawed strawberries with juice.
- Beat one minute.
- Add oil and beat another minute.
- Pour into two greased and floured 9" pans.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes.
- Cool completely.
- Frosting:
- Combine milk, flour and cook until thick , stirring constantly.
- Set aside to cool.
- Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add vanilla and cooled milk mixture.
- Beat until frosting becomes stiff.
- Frost and garnish with whole strawberries, if desired.
