Traditional Lasagna Recipe
Everything a lasagna should be. It's taken me a good five years to perfect this recipe.

Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3/4 lb ground Italian sausage
  • 24 oz of Ragu traditional spaghetti sauce
  • 12 oz tomato paste
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons combined dried basil, oregano, and thyme.
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • box of lasagna noodles (regular, NOT no-bake)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons fresh parsley, minced
  • 32 oz ricotta
  • 3 cups Parmesan, shredded
  • 12 oz shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions
  1. Brown beef and sausage in large skillet (I use a dutch oven) until no pink remains.
  2. Crumble and mix meats thoroughly.
  3. Add sauce, paste, garlic, and herbs.
  4. Simmer for 1 hour.
  5. Meanwhile, boil lasagna noodles until just done.
  6. In a large bowl, mix together ricotta, eggs, 1 cup Parmesan and parsley.
  7. Spread 2 cups meat sauce in bottom of ungreased 9x13" lasagna pan (3.5" inch height minimum)
  8. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  9. Layer the lasagna in the following sequence: 2 c. meat sauce, noodles (double up noodles occasionally if you think you'll have too many), half the ricotta mix, noodles, half the mozzarella, noodles, 2 c. meat sauce, noddles, remaining ricotta mix, noodles, remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  10. Bake covered with tin foil for 50 minutes.
  11. Uncover and continue cooking for 15-20 minutes or until top layer is golden brown.
  12. Let sit 15 minutes before serving.
