Humble Pie

- 2 lbs venison steak shopping list
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice shopping list
- 1 cup red wine shopping list
- 1/4 cup shortening shopping list
- 1/4 cup flour shopping list
- 1 teaspoon chili powder shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon mace shopping list
- 4 bay leaves shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seeds shopping list
- 1 pastry crust for top of pie shopping list
How to make it
- Cut the venison into 1 inch cubes and dip in lemon juice
- Mix flour and chili powder in a flat dish and dredge the cubes
- Heat the oil in a large iron skillet and brown the cubes on all sides
- Add the wine and remaining spices
- Cover with enough cold water to gently boil for about 30 minutes
- Remove the bay leaves
- Transfer the meat to a pie dish and put a pastry crust on top
- Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 -25 minutes
